Title: How Deep Are You? Post by: Div on August 21, 2005, 03:13:40 PM I was chatting with Teacake about a situation which arose in a live No Limit Hold Em tourney he played recently.
The situation was that several of the players were sitting hunched over the table with their hands clasped around their chips. Consequently it wasn't easy to see how many chips were in their stack. When he asked how many chips they had, as he was gauging how to bet a certain hand, they refused to let him see their chip stacks. The dealer didn't back him up, and prompted him to bet without knowing what he was betting into. I don't play live much, but I've read enough to know that I'd expect in this situation to at the very least get a clear view of their stack, and I'd probably want a chip count if it was late in the game. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Title: Re: How Deep Are You? Post by: tikay on August 21, 2005, 03:18:04 PM In Tournament Poker, it's almost universally accepted that your chip stack must be clearly visible to ALL players, and the high denom chips MUST NOT be hidden behind the low denom chips. Opinions differ if you are obliged to answer the question "how many chips you playing?", but thay's one of those absurdities of human nature, when the guy says "I don't have to tell you". At the start of each hand every player at the table has the right to know how much money every other player at the table has in play, so that he knows how much he stands to win relative to what he has at risk. All money in play shall be in full view at all times. Money hidden from view may or may not play, depending on the extent to which it is visible, as determined by the dealer. Every player has the right to an unimpeded view of another player's chips and cash, and should there be any doubt as to how much money is in play, any player may ask the dealer to determine how much money another player has in play.
