I was considering doing this as well.

How long does broadband take to be installed.  I may be moving house early next  year, I was wondering how long a process is it from first applying for broadband until it is installed and ready to use.

the installation team are usually there 5 mins after you call....lol and take 10 mins to install. its when things start going wrong you cant get a tech to visit your house for a week and getting through on the phone to customer services is a dammed nightmare. im with ntl though and rarely have problems. BT was the pits for me

Shouldn't take that long.  It's only a case of converting the line usually, maybe a week or so.  You'll only get the speed of broadband that the line can handle though.  People have been caught out with the Bulldog advert saying they can have 8mb broadband, but the line can only handle 2mb so you get that.

www.adslguide.org.uk is worth checking out when considering broadband and the forum is helpful for any questions you need answerinng

If you're already a Sky subscriber, it looks like a great deal - essentially will chop my Broadband bill in half.

I hope it's a good connection though, with none of those nasty 'disconnection' things I keep hearing about  ;tk;

Fully agree but in my experience I have found ntl's customer service department the worse to deal with, infact an absolute nightmare.

NTL's normal CS is appauling, but I've found the broadband CS really good in the odd occasion I've had to call them.  NTL's broadband is excellent.

I've had no problems with ntl's broadband but I'm still recovering from previous experiences with ntl's customer service that I could never recommend them to anybody with feeling a tad guilty.

Right here is the status straight from the horse's arse I mean mouth.

The process currently is that you have to register with Sky for the broadband service. This can be done either through the website at http://broadband.sky.com/flash.htm or by calling Sky the usual 08702 404040 number will give you a broadband option.

Once registered sky will send you an "invitation to buy" and the install can be either assisted by a sky engineer (free if on top package otherwise £50) or a self install. The offer to buy letters started getting sent on Friday 4th august and will continue on a daily basis.

At the moment Sky has only about 30% unbundled coverage of the UK which will increase as registration's etc continue. If you fall into an area which isn't unbundled they will offer you 2Sky Connect" which has download speeds up to 8mb for £17 (which I think is comparable with the BT offering).

Worthwhile checking out the SkyTalk offer also if you visit the site as it should be quite good (i am on a staff offer and only pay BT my line rental and next to nothing to Sky).

At least I can say i did something for Sky when i was at work today!

Right my job is done here i believe any other questions I will attempt to get answers but you will get most of the info you need from the web or calling.

My Sky+ box seems to be slowly getting more and more unreliable. I rang sky and was told it will be £60 to send out an engineer.

I have read that you can get the engineer out for free if you say you want to cancel but it means being put through to the cancelations dept and going through it all again.

I also heard that if I read up on the sale of goods act or something and start quoting about how products are meant to last a reasonable amount of time I can get a free engineer.

All the engineer does I have heard is bring out a reconditioned Sky box and plug that in.

Is there anyway I can get this sorted without having to go through all the hassle of either learning about the law or lying about wanting to cancel?

Many thanks

I Fecking knew it was a bad idea to admit i work for Sky!!! I'm a bloody accountant not customer service, lol.

As for your question Byron I know it is a piece of nonsense but that is the process i am afraid. If you want to avoid the service charge it has been done by that way in the past seemingly! (You trying to get me the sack? Didn't work for me I had to pay service charge when mine went phhht and yes they replaced the box) Now i am off to hide my e-mail details!

Judge: They will sell you a wireless card and i believe they cost about £15.

My F2S 3 month contract is up; as I said earlier it is prone to moments of disconnectedness that I could do without.

Will switch, but I wanted to know if anyone had taken Sky's offer up yet.

£10/month for supposedly unlimited broadband looks good (if you're already a Sky Subscriber), except that the small print says the usual 'subject to FUP', tragically Sky have decided to not print actual details of what their Fair Usage Policy is. Anywhere. Or at least, I can't find it.

It doesn't exactly fill me with confidence, hence the question-begging bump of this thread.
