Title: Luton Main Event Live Update - At a Glance
Post by: Djinn on August 12, 2006, 07:08:08 PM
Here's your Lite Chip Count hand history etc. update from the £1,500 Main Event of the UK Open!

Thanks for your welcoming words - it's actually some kind of relief to find ourselves once again in the Luton card room, where the 7pm start time has been reached, with one hand turnovers being dealt for the last ditchers amongst us.

If the Rio was the Poker Factory, then Luton is the Poker Newsagent, and I for one am delighted that I'll know a reasonable percentage of the field and can bring more comprehensive updates from this more Local of Main Events.

The players are actually seating at this time - a little huddle of the more myopic amongst them is gathered around the green screens with the seat draw displayed upon them... Tikay's found his table... "I have a corker...Julian Thew, Ali Mallou, Eric Barker, Trevor Reardon."  Should be interesting to watch them, especially as Tikay describes Mr. Barker as 'Ali Mallou with turbocharge.'

Let's see them take on the £750 champion, then.

Jim Reid Quads Shocker -

(got your attention):  Up against Bernard Litman's Ks Kc, Jim Reid holding Aspades Js must have liked the flop however this particular board came out (just saw them on their backs at the river):  Jh 4d Jc 7h Jd.

A good start for Jim and Bernard is down to just 575.  Oh, Kev informs me that Simon Nowab just finished him off.  Hard early luck...but at least KFC's still open.

Julain Thew has almost halved his stack after locking horns with Tony Kendall.

Julian raised preflop with 7-2 of diamond and Tony called with T-9 of diamonds.

Of course, the flop brought a flush draw. Julian made a small bet, Tony called.

The diamond hit the Turn and Tony bet, Julian called.

Then the River made Tony a straight flush. Another bet and another call.

Almost a Mateyboy squared moment

Battle of the blinds.

Flop = 6d 6c 9s

Mayeyboy checks, Dale Greenleaf in Seat 5 bets 500, MB calls.

Turn = 3c

MB checks, Greenleaf bets 800, MB calls.

River = Ad

MB checks, Greenleaf bets again, this time 5,800!

And this time MB gives it up.

Quote conversation from Simon Nowab to tablemate Womble:

"How long are the blinds?"
"One hour."
"Then you've got one minute to play a hand at the first level."
"I limped on JP's blind..."

Blinds up to 50/100, then.

Mini Elimination List:

We've lost Ken Pritchard, Brian Welby and Andrew Johnson.  Some minor table reshuffling, but we're on for a full count in 45 minutes, at first break.

If you're wondering who 'Gregory Alexius' is from the previous chip-count list, well, he's not from around this neck of the woods.

Gregory actually lives in Greece and flew all the way over to er... Luton due to qualifying online at Sporting Odds.

This comp attracts players from right around the globe!

Stuart Hill loses just under 3k by calling serial bluffing Ash Hussain down with A3 - The flop was 2 4 10, the turn a 3 and the river an eight.  Believing his pair was probably ahead as his Ace had been on the flop, he called Ash right to the end.  He was shown the actual winner, 68, for his efforts...

Trevor Reardon's Ladies Let Him Down:

Preflop, it limped to him, and a little raise got it heads up between him and Ali Mallu.
Flop:  Kd Qh 4h  A little bet from Ali must have seemed like a good opportunity for Trevor, who held Qc Qs.  But the flop had hit Ali's Kh Kd even harder, and it all, unsurprisingly, went in, knocking Trevor out and making Ali even more dangerous.

JP is retelling his tales of woe.

The hand that crippled him went as follows:

Queen high flop with two hearts.

JP has the flush draw and MB holds the Queen.

MB bets, JP calls.

Ten turn brings JP a pair, but no flush. MB makes two pair though with his Q-T

JP checks, MB bets, and JP raised. MB dwells before flat calling.

River came a King, still no heart, but JP moves all-in, trying to represent a staight (J-9), but MB is having none of it and calls (although he did dwell for a good five minutes before finally making the call)

Eric Barker is OUT.

Eric raises to 600, Tony Kendall calls with his Pocket Sixes, and Ali Mallu makes it 3,600.

Eric moves all-in for another 4k, Tony folds, and Mallu calls.

Eric flips A-K and Mallu shows...

8-3 off

4 clubs on the board and Maullu takes it down with the 3 of clubs.

Dean bets 850 and Ansell folds, showing the Ace of Clubs in the process.

Barry Neville is up to 30k after Julian Adamson doubled him through.

Flop = Kh 5s 8s

Barry bet the Ts turn and Julian moved all-in. Barry makes an instant call.

Barry = Js 7s

Julian = Kd Qc

Title: Re: Luton Main Event Live Update - At a Glance
Post by: snoopy1239 on August 12, 2006, 10:01:36 PM
Board = Ahrt Ac 6s Aspades Kh

Just under 2k in the pot.

Greenleaf bets 500.

Carlo dwells and then calls the 500.

Mateyboy next door also calls.

Greenleaf reveals the fourth Ace to take the pot.

Title: Re: Luton Main Event Live Update - At a Glance
Post by: snoopy1239 on August 12, 2006, 10:10:57 PM
Steve Walmsley is up to 18k.

"The table has freed up now JP's left," he claimed. "I couldn't make any moves with JP and Chubbs behind me"

Womble then went on to eliminate Mateyboy with A-K v A-Q on an Ace high flop.

A few well timed steals later and he's up to the healthy figure of 18k.

Not bad considering the average is still only 13,500

They're breaking the second table of the night, which must mean more knockouts (and it's not even dinner yet.  Mmmm, dinner)

I know at least a couple of those:  Jules 'Hartwith' Adamson just left with a shrug and a resigned "Shocker."  I think that was more to do with a big pot he lost right before being moved the final time, though.

Also eliminated:  Stuart Hill, Jeff Kimber, Jason Simpson - who left saying, "I wasted £3 on this tourney...." apparently having qualified via a $5 satellite on bluesquare.

Title: Re: Luton Main Event Live Update - At a Glance
Post by: snoopy1239 on August 12, 2006, 10:17:30 PM
This has to be the biggest hand of the night.

Richard Ashby and John Falconer have just been eliminated by Paul King who is now on 34 thousand.

Flop = 7-rag-rag (2 hearts)

All the chips fly in.

Ashby has the nut flush draw, Burnely John has Pocket Queens and King is sitting on a set of Sevens.

The Sevens hold up and Paul King scoops a massive pot.

Title: Re: Luton Main Event Live Update - At a Glance

Trevor Reardon is OUT after running a flopped set of Queens into a flopped set of Kings.

Carlo Citrone -- 11,525
Dave Smith -- 4,225
Jim Reid -- 34,700
Vic Kamwar -- 4,800

Title: Re: Luton Main Event Live Update - At a Glance

Flop = Aspades Ks Qc

1.5k in the pot, just Jim Reid and Vik Kanwar remaining, the latter with just 4.1k in front of him.

Jim Reid (button) bets 4.1k, effectively putting Vik (Big Blind) all-in.

After the lenghiest of Citrone-esque dwells, Vik makes the call with Kh 4s.

Jim Reid shows Kc Qs and it's all doom and gloom for Vik, or so he thought...

Turn = Ad

River = 9h

Split pot.

Title: Re: Luton Main Event Live Update - At a Glance
Post by: snoopy1239 on August 12, 2006, 10:40:53 PM
The blinds have just gone up to 150/300 with an average stack of 14,500

There're 66 players remaining, which suggests that they're dropping pretty rapidly. That's almost a third of the field gone already.

Phil Cooklin takes a crushing blow with Kc Kd against Terry Fletcher's Aspades Ahrt - 7k changes hands and doubles the latter up while taking the former down to a precariously short stack.

Title: Re: Luton Main Event Live Update - At a Glance
Post by: snoopy1239 on August 12, 2006, 11:10:02 PM
Stand back Arshad, there's a new man on campus, and he's just broken the 50k mark.

Play folds round to the Sid Harris who makes up the small blind.

Matthew Ansell, in the big blind, bets out, and Sid calls.

Flop = Kc 9h 2c

Sid bets, Ansell raises, Sid calls.

Turn = 7h

All the chips go hurtling in.

Ansell reveals Ac Ahrt

Sid turns over 7c 4c

River = Qc

All the chips go to Sid Harris who is taking an age to stack up what looks like a massive 52k.

Meanwhile, Ansell has a right cob on and Alli Mallu turns over an Ace from the burn cards, which probably didn't make Ansell feel too much better.

He's still in though, but struggling slighty with 1,850.

Ash Hussain is yoyoing a bit today, but still managing to hover around the 35-40k mark.

He's just taken down a several k pot with Pocket Rockets against Jim Reid's K-Q off on a 5-6-K-T-K board.

Barry Neville has taken a hit, losing 7.5k in the process.

He flopped a staight (J-9) on an 8-T-Q all clubs flop, but Mateyboy rivered a King High flush (K-Q) to take the pot away from Barry.

In about 10 minutes we'll be running for a dinner-sized snack, so just to keep you up to date with the chip leader's table:

Julian Thew   5,000
Ali Mallu         24,050

Tikay's stack has dwindled somewhat since the start, and he took on Sid Harris just now, calling him with Td Jh on the button.
The flop came Jack-high with two clubs, and when Sid bet out, Tikay raised to 3,000 which looked pretty committed.  Sid passed (no small club flush draw this time then) and Tikay breathed a sigh of relief: "That's the first pot he's lost in nine years!"

Title: Re: Luton Main Event Live Update - At a Glance

Matthew Ansell has doubled up to 4,750 after losing that massive 52k pot to Sid Harris.

On the same table, Julian is similarly finding life difficult with just 4,375.

After a promising start, tikay off the tele is down to 9,500.

The first was Jaffacake when his Pocket Aces were outdrawn by Sevens.

And then Richard 'Jack' Owen, who exited only moments ago, couldn't win the J-J v A-K coin toss. A King on the turn sealed his fate.

"It was so cruel," he said, recounting how his Qh 8d had found the board coming 4s 9s Tc 7h with a fateful Jc on the river.
Simon had Th 8s for the smaller straight, and with a smaller stack on top there was no escape, while Tikay is breathing easy with 18,000.

On the table next door, Rumit S doubles through with A-K vs A-J on a 4-5-5-2-7 board.

Your chip leader by a kilometre or so:  Mr. Alan Mclean.  95,000, and counting.  Sat two to Tikay's left, Mr. Kendall is finding it hard to get past him.  He's been raised off pocket tens and nines, and generally "having my head messed with."  So what kind of aggressive game is Alan playing?  "He's playing his normal game.  It's too good for me..."

Alan Maclean is down to 64,800 after being outdrawn.

Flop = 7s 5s 3h

All the chips go in, Maclean making an instant call.

Mateyboy = Qd Td

Alan Maclean = Aspades Ts

Turn = Kh

River = Qc

2 outed!

Mateyboy now has a healthy 40k stack and a heart bypass.

Action For ActionJack...

He gets preflop re-raised by Bradley Cowling (they've both got 20-somethingK) and pushes in saying, "I've never passed this hand preflop, and I'm not going to start now."  It's the Aspades Ahrt he flips, against Bradley's Tc Th.

Flop:  Ks Kc Ad (in case you were worried there might be tension)
Turn and river:  6c 7h

Paul up to 43,000 now, at the expense of nearly all his opponent's stack.

Xanthos's other half called after a slight dwell and then exposed her A-J, which was an error because Terry Fletcher had kept 500 back.

No worries though, Terry through in his last 500 and meekly revealed his inferior A-T off.

Q-A-9-5-7 was of no assistance and Fletcher is OUT.

Barry Neville, who had shrunk to a short stack of 10k, re-raised Mike Magee's preflop raise to 2,500 (I think) all in from the button.  Mike called, and not as fast as one might expect with a small stack and Ah Kh here...
Barry showed  Ad Jh

Flop:  Qh 7s 8s
Turn:  Kd
River:  Th

And Barry said, "thankyou" as he moves up to 20k and moves Mike down to just 7,000.

Tikay.  "I was Mallu-ed."

He (Ali) limped utg.  Tkay raised, as you well might, with JJ to 3,500.  He made it 28,000. "Is that a raise?"  Called, obviously.  Ace 10 up against him in Ali's hand, but the first card out was an Ace and that was that.

Steve Bovis is eliminated by Luke Patten with Ac Qs against Patten's Aspades Ks.  All in preflop (Steve had under 16k) and the nut spade flush on the turn knocked Steve out leaving the Iwan Jones/Barry Neville etc. table playing 6-handed.

Board = Jc Qd Kd 2s

Mallu bets 8k, Luke Patten moves all-in, Mallu folds.

Patten adds even more to his chip-lead.

Tracey Dell doubles up Carlo Citrone

10k in the pot

Tracey Dell checks, Carlo moves all-in for 4.5k, Dingdell calls reluctantly (leaving around 20k behind)

Tracey Dell = Ad 7d

Carlo = Aspades 8c

River = 5d
