Title: New Nottingham Blood
Post by: Chili on August 22, 2005, 02:03:13 PM
Hello blondites
Just a quick virgin post to say hello and to thank tikay for introducing himself to me in the £50 notts tourney last night.  It was a pleasure!

I thouroughly enjoyed making the final again and to beat as many men as possible!!

Big congrats to Julian for wiping the floor with the remaining 2 out of 5 cypriots at the final table! Great win considering you were only left with the blinds at one stage!

I look forward to heads up wiht you next time!

hello Chili, Welcome to the forum.... perhaps i should enlighten you with a few facts regarding Red Dog and Ironside...Firstly RED DOG IS MARRIED..and he has a tash !!!  Ironside is single but he does have an uncontrollable fetish for lap dancers, in fact his poker playing has only ever been a way of funding his seedy life style........ Me, well im single, genuine, honest, romantic, loyal and trustworthy.. dont let the fact that i look like a bulldog licking piss off a thistle put you off, beauty is only skin deep :)

Oh and before someone else tells you, i have a wonky eye too, but people with eye problems are more than able to live normal lives these days, I mean look at Tikay's hairdresser , she is BLIND !!

  ;D

love from Kev xxx

Hi guys. Only played online tournaments and didn't feel starting a new thread with this question was sensible as I'm guessing it has been asked before... we'll see.

Anyway, does freezeout in real poker tournaments refer to the fact that no rebuys can be bought?

Is nottingham any good? I'm in nottinghamshire so would be the only choise really .. i'm a university student with no car so closest is better.

Any replies would be appreciated.

Yup freezout means no buyins - once you have paid to enter the tournament, you get your starting chips and thats it. Nottingham is a very lively card room with very good turnout and lots of beginners start there. You'll enjoy it a lot.

Hi Stoo, welcome fella.

Notts any good? Thats a matter of opinion, but I think so.

You are a Uni Stident? I went down last night, there must hasve been 20 Uni Students there. In fact, in the early stages, I had a "newbie" either side of me, & they thoroughly enjoyed themselves

Later, I befriended two Chinese guys, one's name was Twan, the other Voo. We get chatting, & they sat & sweated me right through the comp. There was anorher chinese guy in the group, & a Chinese young lady, stunningly pretty as it happened. We got chatting during the buffet break, & they were all Students at Notts. Reading, as I recall, Financial Accounting, Financial Services, Business Studies, & Engineering. They were great fun. The Comp restarted, and the 4 of them sat behind me, & we became well pally. Sadly, due to some earlier rowdiness, Gala decided to move the Final to the upstairs room, & the four of them were not allowed to come up & spectate.

So, as they say, "come on down" & have a bit of fun. If I am there, say Hi, I am a youngish looking mid-thirties, usually wearing a black blondepoker shirt.

hmmmm - favourite actor!!  Ok i cant choose just one so i give you top three in no particular order:

Matt Damon - because he can play hold em (i'm sure he must have carried on playing!) and he is sexy in a non obvious, non greek stalion way.

Johny Depp - if your are female or gay this is an obvious one.  Oh and he never fails to choose off the wall, bizarre subject matter in all the films he has been in and he couldn't give a shit about their success.

Robert De Niro - For every gangster movie he has ever been in (Goodfella's being the best film ever).

I would just like to add in Joe Pesci for comedic value even when serious and for looking like my uncle Louie.  Please dont tell him if anyone knows him.

Malc, glad to feed the starving.

Still no pic boys!!

Let me translate for those that are not Notts familiar.....

Uncle Kim - Kim Costa. One of THE nicest guys in poker, a true Gent.

Peter = Pete Costa. Needs no intioduction. Kim is his handsome & charismatic brother....

See, poker skill is in the genes!

Louie - usually just plays the £100-ers. Maniac.

Dad - is that Angelo?

"That" t-shirt. Please, I BEG you, don't wear it to Gala. That would be TOO much......

Title: Re: New Nottingham Blood
Post by: Chili on August 24, 2005, 01:22:45 AM
Yep Angelo is my dad which is pretty cool because most people think i play like him! How wrong they are!!  I wore "that" t-shirt twice and he seriously didnt like it but i think i might wear it one more time for a laugh. I got to the final with it both times!!

Louie a maniac!! Classic!  He plays like that at home as well and wipes the floor with all the cousins. No mercy and no same village with him.

Junior Wow! I'm gonna get that shirt made.  Greek girls bluff better!  Cheers  :-*

This is amazing. A new geezer joins blonde, he gets three "welcomes", & 7 "views". This thread is already up to 114 replies, & 500 odd views. And counting.

Could it be that Chilli is a, err, umm, female.......?

What is it that Chilli has that makes her so welcome?

Oh, & "what's in a name?". Chili's logic is sound, & simple. She's a devotee of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, arguably the world's best band of their type, (Anthony Keidis is so sexy even I fancy him), along with Aerosmith.

Chilli, yes, that's the way blonde threads tend to meander, & why we attract a certain type of viewer. Others may mock, but hat's the way blonde is, & always will be. Poker - and stuff - with a smile.

Anthony Kiedis initials, AK? Yup, same as mine. (I'm an Anthony, technically). I'm almost the same age as Anthony too - he was born November 1st, 1962. I have a copy of his book - "Scar Tissue" - excellent stuff, & some really great pics, but I do wish he did not mess about so witrh "substances". Ah, rock groups, gigs, & happy days. It's HORRIBLE being old.

Into rock guitarists? Dunno about that, but when I was young enough not to be mocked when I turned up at a gig, I just loved live bands.

Remember, I lived through the mega-concert/super bowl type gigs age. Fleetwood Mac, something a bit sinister about them. ELO - "Roll over Beethoven" live was always a good ending to any of their sets. Surprisingly, The Faces, backing Rod Stewart, were a pretty cool rock band, with or without Rod, who, by the way, trialled for Brentford. Genesis, excellent, Yes, (but Tales of Topographic Oceans was the end for me), good in their time, Dire Straits - I once went to the same gig of theirs three nights running, they were super cool, eh? Ten CC (oops, that's a bit naff...), Floyd, Rick Wakeman (One time Chairman of Brentford), Meatloaf - WHAT a live performer he was!

Like I say, happy days. Now it's just me and the cats. Sigh.....

But for Live Gigs, The Chillis & Aerosmith take a bit of beating with the edge narrowly going to Aerosmith. Tyler is awesome - and have you seen his daughter? How DID he recover from the drug excesses of the late 70's & 80's & come back to rebuld his life? I doubt if there is a more multi-talented rock musician/singer/live act alive. I'd marry him tomorrow.

Title: Re: New Nottingham Blood

seen some pretty awesome shows. Iron Maiden at Donnington 1988 (the one where the kids got crushed during the GnR set) Stones at Wembley, the Freddy Mercury Tribute bash was a good un too. Metallica always out on a big show, especially when touring the Load album where they played on a figure of 8 stage with two kits set up and various guitar and vocal points and even faking a lighting engineer on a rope blowing up and crashing to the ground in flames. But the daddy of all live shows has to have been AC/DC a couple of years ago at Milton Keynes. Cannons, giant bells, 30 foot inflatable Rosie. genius.

Best concert I have been to was REM at Milton keynes bowl....blur were support, and brought Phil Daniels out to do Park life. Both bands were fantastic live, and the atmosphere was awesome.

Michael Stipe is a great frontman, very dry humour and a brilliant vocalist.

I also have very fond memories of attending an ELO concert ...full laser show, the works. And my blue vinyl copy of "Mr. Blue sky" is a treasured posession. ( I should add that i was taken to this concert by an older cousin, unlike Tikay i wasnt old enough to drink at the time ;) )

Title: Re: New Nottingham Blood
Post by: RED-DOG on August 24, 2005, 03:58:41 AM

Enlighten us then Red. I only remember the first 4 words......

Puff, the magic dragon,
Lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist
In a land called Honah Lee.
Little Jackie Paper
Loved that rascal Puff,
And brought him strings and sealing wax
And other fancy stuff.
Puff, the magic dragon
Lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist
In a land called Honah Lee.

Together they would travel
On a boat with billowed sail.
Jackie kept a lookout perched
On Puff's gigantic tail.
Noble kings and princes
Would bow whenever they came,
Pirate ships would lower their flags
When Puff roared out his name. Oh!
Puff, the magic dragon
Lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist
In a land called Honah Lee.

A dragon lives forever,
But not little girls and boys.
Painted wings and giant rings
Make way for other toys.
One grey night it happened,
Jackie Paper came no more
And Puff that mighty dragon,
He ceased his fearless roar.
His head now bent in sorrow,
Green scales fell like rain,
And Puff no longer went to play
Along that cheery lane.
Without his life-long friend,
He could not be brave,
So Puff that mighty dragon
Sadly slipped into his cave.
Puff, the magic dragon
Lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist
In a land called Honah Lee.

It took me ages to realise that the dragon was imaginary, and the little boy just grew up

Saw iron maiden a few times in concert awesome truly.
Also metallica supported by anthrax, excellent.
Rod stewart at Villa park (biggest gate they've ever had at that s**thole ;D) supported by Belinda Carlisle ahhhh, i'm sure she was giving me the eye!
Mr blue sky, an absolute classic and of course a long standing blues anthem (BCFC). Actually Jeff Lynne is from where i live (shard end) and a lot of their songs included the word "blue" due to his 'fixation' with the best footie team in the world ::)
The Cure, absolute class along with the Smiths (voted the most influential british band of the last 30 years recently).
I saw madness at finsbury park, they can do no wrong (except maybe cecilia, though for pure comedic genius getting Chris Eubank to introduce it on top of the pops "at numer six is suggs singing cecilia").
Plenty, plenty more -too many to mention.
Ian

Tikay, i dont know many old people who liked the smiths, so dont feel too bad ;)

Morrisey is an absolute 110% genius, his ability to write songs that captured the thoughts and minds of a generation was remarkable..and Jonny Marr (as is acknowledged world wide) is a truly gifted guitarist.

I think the Smiths "Mattered" to 16 to 20 year olds, because the lyrics and tone of the music summed up the way we felt.... I look back with fondness of my days as a penniless student, living in a bedsit, eating instant mash sarnies (dont knock them till you have tried them, they were a delicacy at the end of the month when we were totally skint, and even the sofa had been emptied of furry coins :) ) while listening to the great man in his distinctive, unique way re-assuring us that we could make a difference, but we had to suffer in the process.

I still frequently listen to my old Smiths albums, and the new album by Morrisey is simply brilliant. Although the old stuff doesnt have the same meaning any more, it is still thought provoking and remarkably fresh sounding....

Quite simply MORRISEY IS GOD !!

Kev.
I agree, Morrissey + Marr = LEGENDS!

Being not quite old enough to have grown up with the Smiths (being more of an Oasis / Longpigs / Bluetones / Shed 7 man) I quickly realised that i should have been born about 5 years earlier so i could have seen live bands such as the Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, and in deed he Smiths.

Tikay - i think you should take back the yuk comment! - or i'll start exposing you for having Simon and Garfunkel on your Ipod!  ;D

no, I'll second the Yuk. ;)

having grown up a metal head through the mid 80's through to mid 90's I started on Whitesnake, AC/DC and Iron Maiden, working my was up to Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax and beyond into some very Angry music. Jeez I was mad at everything. I'm afraid Smiths, Mondays Stone Roses and the rest leaves me colder than a witch's brass tit.

OMG Adam - i used to think you were alright but that list you put forward has to be the worst bunch of so called music i have ever seen! - seriously!

move over to the music thread, but as you do so bare in mind that I'm a guitarist and the music you've mentioned doesn't have much a strong lead guoitarist could get excited about.

Sorry Adam i'm with Jumior on this one!!

THE SMITHS  -  The greatest band EVER to come out of England!!  Without revealing too much of my age, i was too young to see the smiths at the time but since my once VERY strict father (how things have changed) wouldn't let me out the house (only to go school) i spent a lot of time in my bedroom dreaming and Morrissey was the man to dream with.

I think i own everything they ever released and things they didnt!  I was truly obsessed by the lyrical genious and Marr's haunting guitars at times!  Shortly after The Smiths for me came all the Madchester stuff!  I saw the Happy Mondays live with old crooner Donovan supporting, excellent.  My biggest regret was never seeing the Stone Roses live but they will stay in my mind forever.

Shit - i'm ranting, going now.

the fact that there are only 2 on your side says much, the smiths were the definitive band of their era no question

I should have missed out on all this stuff as well but my wonderful sister was just the right age, so as a skinny little 15year old i was watching the roses, simths, mondays and dancing myself stupid at the hacienda and PSV.

Great Great Days.

RADIOHEAD are the greatest band btw.
