Title: £5 rebuy at annabelles cov, MADNESS!!! Post by: Jedwick on August 13, 2006, 04:11:21 PM hey guys,
I went to my first live tourney on friday, i've played home games with mates and quite a bit online but i still didnt know what to expect, but this was crazy!! I find out a few specifics from the locals and get drawn on a table with 9 others who all seem to know each other and there's a few big characters, thinking to myself that it will be quite a good laugh. first hand gets dealt and i'm looking down at JJ, i know i shud have called and just seen the flop but i went all in to try and be a bit aggressive and just win the first pot, I had 4 callers!!!! one had 38 off, one had 33, one had 10J and another had 8Q, give or take i cant remember exact hands, looking good until the river and a Q hits!! i rebuy with the other 4 and next hand another 3 or 4 ppl go all in with nothing but 56, all really bad hands. I keep folding my cards as no-one can see the flop and 9 hands later i get dealt JJ again, decide to call 2 all ins and win the pot, bad play from myself saw my chips depleted and after another few hands i was out, didnt wanna rebuy again as this wasnt playing poker it was like playing bingo!! so i went and wacthed my cousin play on his table and it was the complete opposite, they were respecting each others raises and re-raises and actually playing poker. I was really annoyed afterwards as I had had a bad experience of my first live tourney. It was a good night still and everyone there was really friendly, but i dont think i'll be going to a re-buy tourney again in a hurry, might try my luck at the £10 freeze out they do, that would suit my game far more! please tell me all re-buys arent like this, hopefully it was a one off!!! I'm sure you will agree when I tell you it is "bingo night".
The problem lies with the fact that you are probably getting about 10 big blinds for your fiver so you are as well going in with any two cards. This does one of two things. Firstly, you are almost guaranteed a few callers and therefore some valloo for your marginal hand. Secondly and this is more important, you are building up the chips on your table. Once the re-buys end, you change your game and with some skill and a little luck, all those chips on the table will be yours before the table breaks. If however you are the only loose cannon on your table, you will cause the other players to go on tilt, perhaps, or make them tighten up even more. On the occasions you are called, well you are looking to build chips on the table aren't you? My advice if you were to play this game again is to sit tight, have a few rebuys in your pocket and look for a place to make a move. Once the re-buy period finishes, the game "really starts". as mikky says be prepared to reload several times if u get a good stack say 10000 from a start of 2000,then just sit on it....if u dont like bingo play premium hands only ,raising to isolate the 56os ers and pray ur stack doesnt go down again...lol i feel for u on ur 1st live exp..i had a similar time at the riverboat in glasgow a tenner rebuy, and it wasnt pleasant at all i also didnt even make the FO period, but its all a big learning curve....next time maybe try a FO,then come back to the bingo later Title: Re: £5 rebuy at annabelles cov, MADNESS!!! Post by: bhoywonder on August 13, 2006, 06:08:51 PM do most of you just stay away from rebuys then? nah im actually beginning to enjoy them surprisingly..bingo for a while n then use ur skills to knock out the lucky punters ( in my case very limited) then u may find a few decent players left, who are playing proper poker Title: Re: £5 rebuy at annabelles cov, MADNESS!!! Post by: MrMoves on August 13, 2006, 06:19:10 PM do most of you just stay away from rebuys then? I wish I could but I'm a very sick addict. Title: Re: £5 rebuy at annabelles cov, MADNESS!!! Post by: bolt pp on August 13, 2006, 06:21:45 PM If your with all your mates and your having a night out its a great laugh, but i gave up trying to play them seriously years ago.
I'll still play properly, i just lower my expectation level and relax a lot more! Title: Re: £5 rebuy at annabelles cov, MADNESS!!! Post by: thediceman on August 13, 2006, 08:28:11 PM The sad thing with these rebuy "bingo" games are many peoples first experience of playing poker live. As a result many never return.
I'm surprised you are able to play a f/o for as little as just £10. Many casinos won't stage a f/o below £100, hardly a level thats inviting for the new player. Avoid comps where people get it in pre flop with 56 and 83? Are you mad! I would play that all day long! Title: Re: £5 rebuy at annabelles cov, MADNESS!!! Post by: bhoywonder on August 13, 2006, 08:47:53 PM cins has a 25 quid deep stacker twice a week up here

Post by: Jedwick on August 14, 2006, 05:54:15 PM I'm pretty sure there's a £10 F/O at annabelles on monday and wednesday, might phone up again to make sure, dont wanna make the long journey over for nothing, anyone have home games around warwickshire that need an extra player?
Title: Re: £5 rebuy at annabelles cov, MADNESS!!! Post by: LeKnave on August 14, 2006, 06:26:06 PM Thats everyones first impression i think...
I still play them though, i think they are complete comedy. Just sit tight and wait for the big hands but u cant be afraid to fork out for a few rebuys, itl be worth it when u hit a nice cash. But f/o's are farrrrrr better i agree...u can actually play poker instead of bingo. |
