Then they go to East End park and the Pars also get their first point of the season.

Title: Re: PAUL LE GUEN REVOLUTION Post by: Teacake on August 13, 2006, 07:37:35 PM Roll on indeed!!! He who laughs last!!! Bazzas kinda right here its far to early to right Rangers off. TBF Rangers played pretty well middle to front in their first 2 games & should have won both by a wide margin. However they are very lightweight in the middle of the park & defensively they are very weak, the goalie looks a liabilty. Also the formation he plays just doesnt make sense when the opposition generally have 9 men behind the ball, the Hearts game at Ibrox should be quite interesting. I'm more concerned about Celtic & yesterday was totally uninspiring although it was a comfortable enough victory. The shortcomings are all to obvious & we require 3 new players minimum to cope with the Champ. League plus SPL. Title: Re: PAUL LE GUEN REVOLUTION Post by: Tinsel Town on August 13, 2006, 07:48:26 PM I agree.
It's a bit too early to right the Rangers off. Interesting though that after two matches Dunfermline have managed to snuff out the attacking play Rangers showed in the first two games. Other clubs will no doubt follow suit. The pressure is now on Monsieur Le Guen Td Th Title: Re: PAUL LE GUEN REVOLUTION Post by: brad.strider on August 13, 2006, 08:22:54 PM interesting to hear darryl king on the radio today admitting he was duped into believing rangers had a £15 mil war chest for the le guen reveloution by someone at ibrox, peter martin jokingly pointed out tosh mckinlay resigned from celtic tv for less, point was made though
Title: Re: PAUL LE GUEN REVOLUTION Post by: GlasgowBandit on August 13, 2006, 08:27:41 PM I wonder if PLG was duped also with the £15 million.
I agree with the observations about Celtic needing to stregthen however its not going to happen, the biscuit tin mentality still rules supreme. We need a left back, strong defensive midfielder and also a big striker who can hold the ball up. On top of that we have to get rid of that diddy Telfer and get Wilson to his proper position. We all know what we need but unfortunately the board are unwilling to speculate anything in order to accumulate. Keevins was, Traynor isn't & never has been. Another interesting thing is the fact that The Sun has taken over the Record as the highest selling paper in Scotland. This isn't due to the fact that the Sun has got better its because the Record is so bad & circulation has plummeted due to shoddy journalism. Keevins & Traynor were actually decent journos when they were with the broadsheets but they have both gone down the tabloid route with a vengeance, I don't buy the papers anymore & haven't done so for a good couple of years. These cretins used to wind me up bit I soon realised they were best ignored. Title: Re: PAUL LE GUEN REVOLUTION Post by: Div on August 13, 2006, 09:21:58 PM I had a few discussions about Rangers after their first two games and my assessment was - good from middle to front, poor in front of goal, and dodgy at the back. They'll win some games 6-0 but drop points in other games they should win easily.
That's not too far from how I'd assess Celtic too. The difference is, Celtic have been getting slaughtered in the press before a ball was kicked in anger, while every move Le Guen makes has been hailed as genius. Guys like Darryl King are so far in with David Murray they can almost see Chick Young's soles. I did also opine that the close season was the golden time for the Scottish press, as they could print what they wanted without ever having to back it up with any facts. Now the season has started, they can actually be called to account and confronted with the truth. Unfortunately for them, the public are now wise to their games. The Daily Record has burned so many bridges their circulation is now below that of The Sun in Scotland. For what it's worth, I expect the league to be a lot closer than last season - it could hardly be less competitive - and the final outcome will have a lot to do with the transfer moves to come over the next couple of weeks. Title: Re: PAUL LE GUEN REVOLUTION Post by: GlasgowBandit on August 13, 2006, 09:21:59 PM Ohh and regards the Sun I wouldn't buy that rag if it was the last paper ever - its worse than the Record.
And any decent football fan should boycott it after the lies it published in the aftermath of Hillsborough. Rupert Murdoch and his empire = SCUM! Title: Re: PAUL LE GUEN REVOLUTION Post by: Bazzaboy on August 13, 2006, 09:25:30 PM Both are poor sides to be honest but I think Rangers are open to more improvement. I missed first 2 games due to being in Vegas but I'd heard decent reports, so was confident before todays game but we were very poor. Defence and 'keeper are big concerns.

I thinkour best partnership will end up as Magic and Craig Beattie. I am looking foward to seeing him back and full fitness, my young cousin is a ball boy at parkhead and is also a ball bhoy at training - he tells me Beattie is faster, stonger and bigger than he was last year. Regards magics overall game he is too lazy and has to get the finger out. As for Naka he does drop out the games but I reckon thats because he is playing right mid, he would be far more effective playing behind a front 2 IMO. He has the skill and the passing range to unlock defences. He has the skill and the passing range to unlock defences. Title: Re: PAUL LE GUEN REVOLUTION Post by: Teacake on August 21, 2006, 12:19:59 AM Looks like Jan Venegoor of Hesselink is a likely signing this week, that will give us a target man up front. Miller has been far from the worst so far this season & McGeady was playing himself in the middle of the park today.
Piss poor performance again trying to play out a 1-0 when everyone knows Marshall never keeps clean sheets these days. Funny how they manage to up the pace when ICT equalised, too little too late Title: Re: PAUL LE GUEN REVOLUTION Post by: scottm on August 21, 2006, 12:44:27 AM I feel sorry for you guys, I really do...........

Title: Re: PAUL LE GUEN REVOLUTION Post by: BigTomatoes on August 27, 2006, 05:24:38 AM glasgow bandit said we needed a left back , a strong defensive midfielder and a strong target man striker. so far we have got 2 of those in Naylor and Hesselink , roll on Thomas Gravesen. if we get Gravesen i think well have a very strong squad. with players like Maloney , Nakamura , Jarosik , Petrov , Riordan , Zurawski , Hesselink only to name a few , i cant see how we can lose the championship this year after winning it with such a margin last year , all we need to is start putting the ball in the net , and when we hit form there will be nobody who can stop us. ;karabiner; Title: Re: PAUL LE GUEN REVOLUTION Post by: GlasgowBandit on August 27, 2006, 03:38:30 PM The most impressive thing for yesterday was the role Lee Naylor played in the first goal.
It just goes to show what your missing with a natural left back I can't remember the last time I seen a left back at CP get in the box and assist in a goal. Tosh McKinlay? The Mo Cammara friendly games don't count. Celtic still need to do a lot of work defensively, I reckon - i'm not his biggest fan - when Bobo come back he will marshall the defence. We have a quality right back, i think he can improve though and from what I have heard of Naylor he is a decent left back. Young McManus and Caldwell are not yet the finnished articles and both have lots of improvement but IMO centre half is a position you learn to play with experience. I am fairly confident we will win the league. I'm not dismissing anyone yet on this thread I just wanted to chuckle about the revolution. with regards the Champions League of course we should be aiming for the 2nd phase we have been lucky enough IMO with the draw we have got and if we stop giving silly goals away we could do well ultimately, the most important thing for the club is extending any run in Europe beyone Christmas. For once I think the board deserve some form of praise. They waited till the CL draw and obviously agree that we can progress and have spent some money on players we need, I am lead to believe that Gravesen has been at CP this week for a medical and that the deal hinges on him accepting a decrease in wages, but with the promise of a regular game, medals and champions league football we must be in with a shout. I also have it on good authority that Petrov doesn't want to leave Celtic but his relationship with Gordon Strachan has broken down. Petrov has itimated to others that he would even consider going out on loan just to get a way from WGS, and is now training with the reserves rather than the first team. Also with the fact that Celtic will be the only representatoves from \Scotland in the CL this year we are guaranteed at least 9 million so that also good news for next season. I'd take Gravesen and Hesselink over him every time.

Looks like we're getting close to 8 million for him so we can't complain. Gravesen & JVoH will improve our team without a doubt. Rangers will prolly sign 2 players this week as Murray will be raging at the fact Peter Lawells being running rings round him lately. Not sure about the quality of those signings though as you guys have limited resources at the moment. Title: Re: PAUL LE GUEN REVOLUTION Post by: Div on August 28, 2006, 08:00:52 PM I had a few discussions about Rangers after their first two games and my assessment was - good from middle to front, poor in front of goal, and dodgy at the back. They'll win some games 6-0 but drop points in other games they should win easily. That's not too far from how I'd assess Celtic too. Damn I'm good 8) For what it's worth, I expect the league to be a lot closer than last season - it could hardly be less competitive - and the final outcome will have a lot to do with the transfer moves to come over the next couple of weeks. It's getting interesting now! Title: Re: PAUL LE GUEN REVOLUTION Post by: Bazzaboy on August 28, 2006, 08:17:40 PM lol I'm happy to take it, had to get used to it past few years. Not sure about the quality of those signings though as you guys have limited resources at the moment. We badly need a commanding centre half. Svensson looks like a fish out of water and makes so many basic errors its not true, he is young though so hopefully there will be a lot more to come from him when he adapts. I know very little about Papac but looks like he is coming so need to hope he hits the ground running, tbh I can't believe we didnt move for Webster in the summer. I think we look really good middle to front and if we could convert half our chances we'd be thumping teams. I know what you are saying about Lawell running rings around Murray in the transfer market but you must admit its not a level playing field at the minute what with the CL money and the 7/8m for Petrov, whereas it looks like we will be paying our dross to leave lol. On that subject, given our lack or resources I cannot get my head around our pursuit of Sebo, he may well be one for the future (he hasnt shown anything yet) but we really need players who can make an impact now. Clement on the other hand will be a class act. Title: Re: PAUL LE GUEN REVOLUTION Post by: GlasgowBandit on August 28, 2006, 08:51:09 PM do you think klos will walk straight back into the team when hes back bazza? Even if he does I don't expect to behalf the player he was previously, he can't possibly have the same sharpness and reflexes he had before injury and being dropped. Especially not now he is getting older. I haven't seen to much of Rangers but I would agree with Bazza they desperately need a commanding centre half, but more so they miss someone in the middle who can take the ball, hold it up and find a pass. Big Prso can create chances but he misses some sitters and I don't know how long PLG will put up with that. I think Prso is the best allround player in that team but his main job is a striker and he's just not doing it. Already Celtic and Rangers have dropped points they would be expected to drop and its going to be a far more competive league this season, will it have the same quality? Yes and no, I think certainly Celtic are strengthening but others look weaker than they have before. But this is how Scottish football has operated for years teams go through periods of domination, I personally think if it werent for some failings of MON we'd be going for 7 in a row this year .... but it obviously wasn't to be. Title: Re: PAUL LE GUEN REVOLUTION Post by: BigTomatoes on August 28, 2006, 09:01:12 PM it would be a perfect end to the transfer window if we could snatch Webster and Brown from under Rangers notice. if we were to I cant see how we can lose the title as weve strenghthened significantly so far and will be hard to beat when we hit form Title: Re: PAUL LE GUEN REVOLUTION Post by: Div on August 28, 2006, 09:06:42 PM it would be a perfect end to the transfer window if we could snatch Webster and Brown from under Rangers notice. I think Webster has already agreed to go to Wigan! If it wasn't for the quirks of the rule he used to escape from Mad Vlad, I do think either Celtic or Rangers would have signed him. However imo Klos was having a poor (by his own high standards) season before he done his cruciate, then last year he barely featured (although he did still manage to have a nightmare at Parkhead, I'd love to know what he was doing at the 2nd goal). What I will say though is if he is anything near his best then he should walk into the side. Klos: What I will say though is if he is anything near his best then he should walk into the side.Good call. He has always scared me on crosses though. I once heard someone say he is a "good shot stopper". I would like to think so, he is a goalkeeper! I was a big fan though (until CarParkhead last year of course). I have to say, Boruc was superb tonight. I have enjoyed laughing at recent CFC keepers but i have been impressed with his performances. Certainly the best by some distance (based on the limited games I have seen). King William, I am always for giving a players more of a chance but it is so hard with a goalkeeper, its a high profile position and any mistake will cost us dearly. Heres hoping he pics up because i can't see PLG replcaing him with Klos. Title: Re: PAUL LE GUEN REVOLUTION Post by: Teacake on September 17, 2006, 06:12:36 PM Rangers were abysmal again today

I think McGregor is underated,he has come into the team and been one of the couple who deserve to keep the jersey. I am quite optimistic about the PLG revolution, and also think it is good for the players to fight for their places,as PLG said himself...obviously contradicting himself, when he said Lionel will go straight back into the team...no matter how good McGregor plays. PLG's first mistake...buying a French keeper who's best days are probably behind him...when he had a talented young keeper in McGregor waiting for a chance to play for the jersey. Lionel should not walk straight back into the team. PLG should concentrate on the under achievers out field,as that is where our weakness's are at the moment. Celtic are without both first choice centre halfs & our best striker, Ronjeurs have topped their UEFA Cup section & seem to have turned the corner in the league a wee bit (4 wins from last 5) & have home advantage. This must be the best chance for a Ronjeurs win over Celtic for a while, so what do you think? Predictions please.
