Title: Whats the worst structure tournament you have played? Post by: Royal Flush on August 22, 2005, 04:32:29 PM I played the £10 rebuy at salford last night, for the first and last time.
1000 points, 2 1hr levels of rebuys. Level 1 50-100 (10bb's!!) Levels 2 100-200 (5bb's!!) The after the rebuys it was 20 min levels, going str8 to 200-400. It started as 12 players on a table, just stupid. So is there a worse tournament? Title: Re: Whats the worst structure tournament you have played? Looking at your pic, i now remember seeing you!! You were sat on 1 of the tables up against the wall facing into the cardroom, i was the fish on the table u looked at str8 infront of you, with the white shirt on. Ginger was there also there wearing a blue square fleece. How did you do in the end? Title: Re: Whats the worst structure tournament you have played? Post by: mikkyT on August 22, 2005, 05:08:33 PM Stanard Glasgow structure:-
Riverboat £5/£10 unlimited rebuys, 1000 chips £20 unlimited rebuys, 1500 chips. 50/30/20 is the prize structure. £5 games have a max of 66 players as they are held on the night where the casino shuts earlier (the real reason is because they don't want to add extra members of staff to handle the extra number of bingo buy-ins). 1hr 45mins 50-100, end of buyin period. Topup for same amount of chips. Race off the 50 chips. 15 min break. 100-200 Then every 15 mins (sometimes 20 depending on the closing times). 200-400 300-600 500-1000 700-1400 race off the 100 chips. 1000-2000 1500-3000 race off the 500 chips (they usually just do a direct change up at this point). 2000-4000 3000-6000 4000-8000 5000-10000 Wabash differs slightly... you get 2000 chips instead of 1000, but the blinds start at 100-200 still only giving you 10 BBs. Post by: RED-DOG on August 22, 2005, 05:11:36 PM Annabelles Coventry, £10 rebuy, 1000 chips, 15 min clock, cant re buy until every last chip has gone
Title: Re: Whats the worst structure tournament you have played? Post by: mikkyT on August 22, 2005, 05:13:58 PM cant re buy until every last chip has gone Ouch.. that's the way I like to play when I'm low on cash... I like "chip and a chair" comebacks... At least here you can re-buy when you are down to half the number of chips. Red, how did you find the Stanley compared to other events? What was their structure like? I didn't bother going over in the end, but I wish I had at least tried a satellite. Looking forward to the next festival in a few months though. Title: Re: Whats the worst structure tournament you have played? Post by: londonpokergirl on August 22, 2005, 05:36:28 PM Id have to say Gutshot tournaments £5 is 500 chips 30min clock then after 1hr is 20min clock
£10 1000 chips but 20min blinds, £20 1000chips 20min blinds etc etc Even the £250 freezeout is only 5000chips and also normally regardless of how many runners only normally pay top table Title: Re: Whats the worst structure tournament you have played? Post by: The Truth on August 22, 2005, 05:37:53 PM I have to say that the structure at Saturday's NECS is pretty damned near the worst I have ever seen. CHIPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was a bit of a curate's egg, I liked the 45 min clock and 6k chips, I didnt like the one re buy, rather have a freeze out or a double chance, and I didnt like the very top heavy prize structure (1st, 40%, 2nd, 20% Title: Re: Whats the worst structure tournament you have played? Post by: TheJagster on August 22, 2005, 08:45:50 PM I was there too.............horrible tourney.....suppose i'd have said different though if I had walked away with some cash!!!!!
Ive played similar structures elsewhere in small stakes poker.....maybe its a case of getting what you pay for. Sorry Nun...I'd have come over and said 'ello if i'd realised it was you. What made matters worse is the terrible dealer we had towards the end of the rebuys.......he made silly comments all the time.....shouted 'fish' at people when he gave them their cards and couldn't even be bothered to iron his shirt. Tut.....Kids these days!!!!!! ;) Title: Re: Whats the worst structure tournament you have played? Post by: The_nun on August 22, 2005, 09:10:36 PM I arrived in Manchester last night to try and calm down from an earlier game of Lottery in Blackpool. It would take me far too long to explain everything that had taked place, but I totaly lost the plot at B/pool, due to getting down to the last 16 people with a v. good stack in front of me, only to be cheated out of a pot by "house rules". Basically guy to my left was on what i thought was a bb steal, I asked to see what chips he had left but he would not show me(this went on for a while). So I said re- raise the pot. Matey is now getting a fair bit of stick from others on the table due to this, he eventually calls my bet showing A 4 off, my hand A 2 ( don't ask :-[). Board comes, all overcards . I hit the table twice , meaning chop chop, turn to talk to guy on my left, looked back and all the chips had found themselves in front of Matey. At this point I am trying to figure WTF had happened. I heard another guy say that was a split pot. I said yes, that is what i thought. Out of 5 witnesses on that table in my favour the card room managment decided to stick to house rules and gave matey the bennifit of the doubt. I said surley if that is the case he should of shown me his stack, this guy also swore at me, but all he got was " dont d o it again you are aware of the rules". Needless to say the ramiainder of my stack which was still large went in 2 hands. I could not get out of there fast enough.

Post by: The_nun on August 22, 2005, 09:12:51 PM Btw, the management had not witnessed the hand, and we had a player/dealer who said that he pushed the chips towards fastfingered matey. I think i came the closest to showing myself up ever yesterday.
Title: Re: Whats the worst structure tournament you have played? Post by: Jamier-Host on August 22, 2005, 09:27:12 PM Flushie I think you've just been spoilt by the Luton structures. People play £10 tournos for fun and the structures are always pretty dodgy. More gamble and more excitement for your 50 quid evening out! Title: Re: Whats the worst structure tournament you have played? Post by: TheJagster on August 22, 2005, 09:28:23 PM The Nun,
Bizarrely, Ive had similar at Salford. Definate split pot and the chips went to the other player....by the time I screamed the cards were all back together to be shuffled for the next hand. Prob my fault for not shouting quickly enough but I hated the game for a good few days after that. Despite thinking it was my fault the person in question was well aware of what the problem was and refused to speak to me or anyone else on the table. In your case, the guy refusing to let you know what chips he had left beggars belief......am I wrong....dont you have to have your chips clearly on display at all times???? Dont blame you for being pi**ed off...been there and I was too. Title: Re: Whats the worst structure tournament you have played? Post by: The_nun on August 22, 2005, 09:31:13 PM Yes P**sed off was an understatment i'm afraid. Shame really as we'd had a greast day up til then, baptism, nice drive in car, then BLACKPOOL arrgggg.

Title: Re: Whats the worst structure tournament you have played? Post by: Sheriff Fatman on August 22, 2005, 10:27:27 PM I didn't actually play it, but the worst structure I've seen has to be the tournaments at the Luxor, where I stayed on my first trip to Vegas.
From memory its something like a $25 buy-in with an optional $3 add-on which goes to the dealers. This buys you 250 in chips or 300 with the add-on. The first hour is limit hold 'em with starting blinds of 15/30 and a 15 minute clock. After an hour the game switches to no limit. I did bring back a flyer showing the structure as I was gob-smacked when I read it! Its probably buried somewhere now. Regardless, I reckon its the ultimate in crap shoots! Sheriff |
