Title: A couple of outsiders for the USPGA
Post by: Karabiner on August 16, 2006, 11:13:34 AM
I'm hoping for one or both of these two to give me a run in this week's final major of 2006.

Steve Stricker and Andres Romero. Both still available at over 400/1 on Betfair.

Ended up with small savers on Kirk Triplett and Rod Pampling.

Had hoped to see Deisuke Marayama play after his 3rd in the International at 200/1 netted me a nice profit for the week but alas the 35 year old rookie had not qualified.

just pointing out there is no need for outsiders (i think it is highly unlikely an outsider will this one).

tiger will not be able to dominate this but will definately be in the mix.

Me too - in fact its very rare that i will back outsiders in a major as there is usually very little point. My main two bets in this tournament are Mickleson and Goosen (the latter i feel is overpriced at 33/1 with stanjames) but as i normally pick a couple of outsiders with my main bets in normal PGA tournaments and my profit for last week coming from one of the savers i thought i'd better stick a couple in this week as well :)

It depends on your methods really. if Els shoots 70, 71 he will be about 14/1 with little trading equity.

If either of mine shoot a similar score they will be trading around 80/1 or less giving me a profit and a massive freeroll.

you must have a big balance, shrewdie me thinks.

i wouldn't be trading, i just think he will win. If els shot 71,70 he will be less than 14/1 i think. Expect the winner to come in around -7

Trevor Immelman for me, available at 50/1.  Also each way on Andres Romero at 300/1.

I've stuck a couple of quid on Monty - I have to have faith (for some reason) and a couple of quid on Luke Donald.

I've had a quick scan of the runners before they tee off and i can't find anyone called faith - what odds did you get and how come i've never heard of them before?

I'm delighted with Romero's opening round of 71(-1), considering that he was +2 after three holes.

His round contained no less than five bogeys, if he can eliminate them........

Blimey, the way they are scoring today the first round leader will be -7!!

Happy with Donald's -4 :)  Monty off to usual start +1!

I am most surprised by this, the greens were very receptive though. They have been overwatered i think and barring rain it should get a bit more difficult.

Eeriely Els did shoot 70,71, but even eerierly(sp) the scoring is so low that he is now 55/1 on BF.

One of mine, Stricker shot 67 yesterday to get right in the mix at -5, hoping for another today.

Some great golf today, quite agree Matt :)

Donald is doing me proud, hope he doesn't get too fazed playing with Tigger tomorrow.  Should be ok, he's the local lad there.

I think it's either Woods or donald.
stats show that 3rd round leader wins the tourney!

Gutted I have only really seen bits of the golf this week. Money has to be firmly on Tiger, been there done it and will keep doing it from these positions. Would love Donald to break to duck though.

Woods is on fire and is showing why he's number one in the world

Amazing stuff.

On another note, I like the super slow mo thing Sky are showing for some of the shots.

Did anyone else hear Bruce Critcley's comment when Tiger and Luke Donald walked onto the first tee tonight?

"It's like the white knight versus the prince of darkness" said Bruce.

Whaaaaat ???
