Title: Trip to Casualty
Post by: Colchester Kev on August 17, 2006, 02:34:50 PM
Last night I was happily playing like a mug in the $5 extendeds on blonde with the usual crowd, when Number 1 son comes in assisted by his friend .... "hello Dad, I think I have broken my ankle" .... I reply "Oh great, so you get your mate to drive you round here at 12.30 am so I can take you to casualty and have the pleasure of sitting in a waiting room for a few hours instead of going straight there"

I then find out that Number 1 son has had a few beers and is slightly tipsy ... he was only 17 on monday ..... I then realise that the time i was really dreading as a parent has arrived....

I can cope with puking babies and tantrum throwing toddlers, I coped well enough with early teenage sulks and back chat.... But now its fear time ... He is grown up and is out and about having a beer in town, I cant protect him.

when I was his age, a few pints and a stagger home was like a scene from the film "Warriors" if you managed to get home without having a punch up, you had done well. Now days, they dont do punch ups ... the worst I would come home with was a black eye or a fat lip, these days you get into a fight and you might not come home at all !!

Very worrying times for a parent !

He is a good lad though, doing well at college, and working at maccy D's all summer to earn himself some cash to put in his travelling fund .... and luckily his ankle wasnt broken, just badly sprained, although at 3am when we finally walked (or in his case Limped) out of casualty, I could have happily broken his bloody ankle myself .

I hope Number 2 son is tee total ;)

Congratulations on having a completely normal teenage son!!  I have to say, I am dreading the teenage years - if my daughter is half as 'normal' as I was I am going to be having kittens on a regular basis.

Doesn't make it any easier but.... he'll be fine - it's all life's experiences.  Not easy to cope with I expect, I have it all to come myself in a few years.  I'm already disliking comments from some mums of boys we know about how our daugher and their son will grow up together and who knows what will happen!  I bloody know - not a damn thing! grrrr :D

Seems to me i have had to many boys , 3 of them are teenagers and dont i know it  ::) Daughters a bit of a bitch at home  with me and Paul but she's so sensible i was beginning to wonder if she was a stepford kid  ;D
Trouble with teenagers you just cant be there and watch them , so you have to hope they're pretty sensible , or hope they learn by there mistakes .

Hope your boys ankle is feeling better today Kev  :)

My son is 21, daughter 23. I worry every day. I panic because I remember what I was like and I don't want them to make some of my mistakes, then my wife reminds me that we survived and so will they. I never worried about them drinking, I concentrated on keeping them away from drugs and reminding them that good manners and a good heart can avoid a lot of trouble and make a lot friends.  :D

Awww Kev hun I feel for ya!

I spent a lot of Sunday in Casualty with my youngest and suspected spinal injuries.

I've been through all manner of hell just recently, but that one took the biscuit.

Seeing my baby lying on the floor screaming in pain isn't something I recommend to anyone,
but I'm sure I'll see it a few more times before this season ends, and if not with my baby
 then with my first.

He has a HUGE friction burn the size and shape of a motox bike tyre up his back and
it's nasty.  I have a picture, but it's stomach churning, so I won't post it.  lol

A number of years ago we were driving back home from a very posh restaurant with a customer and his wife. Whilst waiting at the traffic lights in our small town we were fascinated by the antics of three youths, all the worst for drink, and there efforts to get the lad in the middle up the kerb on the other side of the lights.

Whilst we commented on the state of these youths and their obviously uncaring and socially inept parents the lights changed and we set off. As we passed the drunken trio, who were now wrapped around a lamppost and at the same time assisting the lad in the middle to vomit over a parked mini, we suddenly realised the vomiting 17 year old was our son.........happy days.

I didn't realise Colchester was the home of the High Hats, the Boppers, the Electric Eliminators, etc, etc. So what part of Colchester do the Baseball Furies hang out???. I need to know as I may have to bop my way back to Ipswich one night and don't fancy having a baseball bat shoved up my arse and turned into a popsicle  8)

Kev I remember one classic night out in Leicester when I was a teenager. Managed to be a few to the wind. Bit of a scuffle started, next thing I know got an ashtray in my head (one liners about not being the same since are not appreciated). Blood pouring down the side of my face stagger up the London Road to home. Mates telling me I should go to casualty etc. Anyway to cut a long story short wash the excess blood of in the sink at my folks house think nothing more about it and settle down to sleep. Of course I made sure that everything was neat and tidy. Following morning woken by a shreiking mother asking me what I have done to myself. Neat and tidy when drunk was a litlle bit short of what it should have been. There was plenty of blood everywhere.
Point of the story.....we went through it mate. Somehow got through to the other side. Now it's our kids turn. They will make mistakes and some of them will be bigger than playing AJ suiited. All we can do is support.

I spent a few hours up at casualty last night.
Ever since i moved out of the family home some 4 years ago now i have dreaded "that" phone call from the ex saying something has happened to one of the kids (i have 3 daughters, 13, 9 and 6).
It turned out the ex had brought a stray Rottweiler into the house that bit my youngest EllieAnne on the hand, it was nothing serious just 2 small puncture wounds, a quckish clean up, some anti biotics and a SLING!! she's fine.
It just made me realise just how helpless i really am when it comes to the kids, even though i am 5 mins away i have absolutely no control over their lives.
I was literally sick last night when i was thinking about it.
