Title: Why I hate cling film
Post by: Sark79 on August 17, 2006, 06:00:57 PM
1. it is badly designed ( not all of it, but most of the cheap stuff is )

2. if you accidentally take it out of its box, one bit gets tangled and then thats it.... you are screwed

3. it is seriously hard to find the beginning when not positioned in its box properly

4. it wasted 20 minutes of my life trying to find the start of it earlier.  All this to bake a potato

5. I went to the shop to buy another roll.  The same thing happened.

The list could go on forever.

For the record, I gave up on the stuff years ago.

Aluminium foil forever baby... just make sure you don't drop it or it'll unravel all to buggery, and then...  ;yellowcard;

I had this same conversation after I had thrown the second roll across the room. My friend said, you don't use it to bake potato's.  I do them in the microwave wrapped up in cling film

can you not just get a microwaveable dish with a cover and do it that way?

I kind of already figured you wouldn't be using it in the oven....

for perfect Jackets, pop them in the micro for about 15 mins, turning every few minutes, then pop it in the oven on a high heat for another 10(ish) they come out lovely and crisp on the outside, and soft in the middle, Yummmm

and no cling film required!

Wrap it up.  Put it in the microwave for 8 minutes.  Cut open. Put vegetable spread in the middle along with cheese, coleslaw, cottage cheese or beans.  Eat with some bread.  Take bread out of plastic packaging. Spread with some kind of butter stuff.  Eat and enjoy.  Drink fruit juice with it.  Take glass from cupboard ( left hand side of cupboard remember. It is Thursday today afterall. ) and pour in the juice. Drink and enjoy.

I'm sure you don't need to wrap a potato in cling film to microwave it - just stick it in naked! (the potato, not you)

It is still hard when you cut it open claire.  I tried this before and had bits of raw potato.  8 minutes with cling film.  Double without.

really - thanks for the tip Sark!  I never microwave potatoes because they never come out soft enough for my liking, so I might try one the cling film way!

Its the way of the future as far as baked potato's go, Claire.  I discovered this is 1990 after speaking to an old lady at my Grandad's nursing home. She knew a freaky amount about baked potato's. Nowadays she would be on ready steady cook. A really talented baked potato maker she was

yuk.  I tried those once.  I was so hungry still after drinking them i'd have a meal as well and end up taking in loads more calories than before I was dieting

I made one in the microwave earlier and just covered it in a bit of kitchen tissue :-S

I shall try this.  I usually just put my potato in wrapped in a sheet of kitchen roll

Kitchen roll works for me, but if I've got the time you can't beat the oven.

I actually do the kitchen roll microwave/oven for 15 mins combo if I have something going with the potato that needs the oven 8)

So how long can a thread primarily concerned with cooking potatoes go on for then?   :D :D

Can't believe so many can't cook a baked potato correctly...

Prick potato skin a few times with a fork, Rub with olive iil, give a light coating of salt flakes (to crisp the skin), wrap loosely in tinfoil - chuck into a hot oven for an hour.

I have just discovered something even more irritating then cling film.

I just spend about an hour writing a lengthy email to an employer, it looked very good and answered all the questions he had asked.  When I clicked send, it disappeared and was lost.  ahhhhh,  I prefer pen and paper  :D

Exactly how I do mine, but without the foil for a crispier skin.

I have already suggested my preference for the oven,

.... but if I've got the time you can't beat the oven.

but I don't like the skin to go too crispy so I just bung it in without the palaver of olive oil or salt flakes.
