Title: Las Vegas Post by: The Wall on August 23, 2005, 02:08:26 PM Hey Guys,
Im after some advice please peeps! Im flying out to Vegas at the end of September for the first time and was wondering if my fellow blondites would recommend some friendly well run games I could look out for while Im over there! (Around the $100 - $300 mark) And of course anything else you think that I shouldn't miss whilst im there ;) Cheers! Steve Title: Re: Las Vegas Post by: The Wall on August 23, 2005, 02:28:00 PM Ok heres a random question, Im thinking about buying a new set of golf clubs whilst im in the USA but im not sure about the export tax side of things?? Anyone else ever made a large purchase in the states??
Title: Re: Las Vegas Post by: winkie on August 23, 2005, 03:04:44 PM My info on Vegas might be a bit out of date (I went over in April this year), but some good places to play are:
1. Excalibur - $100 NLHE cash game. Must sit down with $100 and can pull up another $100 when you've got $99 or less. Very loose play here, especially at night when some players have had a beer or two...! 2. Manadlay Bay - same as above but $200 to sit down. I found this had better quality players, but still quite a few fishes. 3. Mirage - daily tournies. Think they start around 7pm. Played a $100 rebuy PLHE comp, 50-odd runners. Good structure and plenty of play. Managed to get a result here... 2nd place for $2.5k...! Hope this helps... Title: Re: Las Vegas Post by: Junior Senior on August 23, 2005, 03:10:19 PM The schedules change quite often i believe so its probably best to do a tour of the card rooms first and pick up a leaflet first.
Bellagio, Mirage, Alladin are all good card rooms. The cash action in the orleans is excellent and the card room is MASSIVE! - they have good tournaments too but they tend to be on the cheaper side and they like limit games there too (the NLH games are about 3 times a week). good luck Title: Re: Las Vegas Post by: Heid on August 23, 2005, 03:30:38 PM Mr Wall,
As a girly who always goes to Vegas with an extra empty suitcase - I think I can answer honestly, if not legally about tax, and customs etc. Remove all labels on your way home, if they can't prove it's not new, they can't charge you VAT on it. I know it's naughty, but it has always worked for me. I do ALL my clothes shopping in the US, so I don't have to go shopping over here as I hate it. If you can use the clubs while you are out there, then all the better, as I presume they will get a not new sheen? (I know nothing about golf). Heid xx Title: Re: Las Vegas Post by: Robert HM on August 23, 2005, 03:34:52 PM Heard on the radio that ipods were half the price there, but you mustn't buy any and bring them back, it would be very very naughty.
Title: Re: Las Vegas Post by: The Wall on August 23, 2005, 03:55:49 PM Thanks guys and lady ;D
Fella I work with has given me the same advice as Heid RE the clubs, I should take my old clubs out with me so that I check them in on my way to the US, then buy my new ones and 'replace' the old ones.................. "I bought these before I left the UK officer! I will defo give most of the card rooms a look, see If I can find a game I like. Title: Re: Las Vegas Post by: mikkyT on August 23, 2005, 03:58:27 PM Okay, what about iPods... you can take 3 blocks of white plastic out with you, then when you return with a collection of ipods, you can claim you took them out with you?
Title: Re: Las Vegas Post by: Robert HM on August 23, 2005, 04:00:55 PM tut tut. I cannot be associated with this sort of talk.
Title: Re: Las Vegas Post by: The Wall on August 23, 2005, 04:02:35 PM Not sure, ipods would be quite easy to get back I reckon cause most people already own one, but the max I could bring back would be two (me and my mate) but since I already own one................. Im ok ;D

Low buy in tournies....Orleans worth a spin. Free shuttle there from outside Barbary Coast. Daily tournies 12 noon and 7 pm...nice cardroom too but mostly Limit poker. Binions was running very late tournies midnight starts, if you want some late night action. Golden Nugget has twice daily tournies as well but fields aren't as big as Orleans Title: Re: Las Vegas Post by: Heid on August 23, 2005, 05:02:08 PM I never liked the Binions tourneys, they were far too full of posers who watched too much ESPN<g>.
Golden Nugget's 11am tourney is LIMIT for the first hour, and I found the dealers to be a bit lacking. Their evening tourney is all NLHE, and ususally had first place of around $3k. I really liked the tourneys at the Plaza - which surprised me loads, as I used to refuse to go in there for years as the palce used to smell of sick, but since Barrick took over they have laid new carpets and it doesn't smell anymore :) Anyway, they have $60 tourneys, 4 times a day, 12pm,4pm,8pm, and midnight, all with one rebuy or add on. Nice mix of fish and locals, and the dealers there are very good. Heid xx Title: Re: Las Vegas Post by: The Wall on August 23, 2005, 05:10:00 PM Plaza, Nugget, Orleans *writes down*
Im getting all excited..... ha ha, this is going to be a FINE trip. Title: Re: Las Vegas Post by: Gamblor21 on August 23, 2005, 07:12:08 PM www.pokerplayernewspaper.com/tournaments.php (http://www.pokerplayernewspaper.com/tournaments.php)
this should do the trick think its got all of the stuff u'll need! At-iT Title: Re: Las Vegas Post by: byronkincaid on August 23, 2005, 08:09:02 PM I've heard of a few people who took an old mountain bike out and came back with a shiney new one and got caught. If I remamber rightly you have to pay tax, a fine and then you are forced to buy your bike back from customs at full UK retail. Not worth it IMO.
Title: Re: Las Vegas Post by: The Wall on August 23, 2005, 10:54:55 PM Thanks guys, cheers At-iT grand link that one.
Your right byronkincaid im going to buy my clubs in the UK now, far too much hassle the whole US plan! Title: Re: Las Vegas Post by: stoo on August 23, 2005, 11:43:54 PM What clubs are you looking at?
Title: Re: Las Vegas Post by: Royal Flush on August 23, 2005, 11:52:58 PM What clubs are you looking at? I think he said Golf Clubs, sorry couldnt resist! Title: Re: Las Vegas Post by: RED-DOG on August 24, 2005, 12:40:49 AM A few years ago I went to Tenerife, while I was there I came upon a long queue of people with suitcases standing in a side street, curious by nature, I stood and watched for a while, then a small door in a wall opened and a man with two suitcases came out, and the next man in line took his suitcases in
I stopped one of the blokes coming out and asked what was going on, "Oh, he replied, we?re just getting some fags" Now I was a smoker at the time, and I knew you could buy cheap fags in Spain, so I went through the door. I couldn?t believe it, there were packets of fags as far as the eye could see, every brand you could think of, and I mean millions and millions of packets. I asked how much my brand cost, if I bought a couple of hundred packets, they worked out at about 40 pence a pack, they were about £2.50 back home. "But is it legal," I asked "to take all those cigarettes back to the UK,? I was told it was ok as long as they were for my own use, the people waiting outside told me the same thing, and it was all done in plain view in broad daylight. The next day, I joined the queue with my suitcases, filled them with fags and that was that, until I arrived at HM Customs, "Would you mind opening your cases sir, my, that IS a lot of cigarettes, what do you intend to do with those?" I was terrified; let me tell you, the sound of that rubber glove being snapped on will live with me forever, what an ordeal. I could not convince them that the cigarettes were for my own personal use, (I found out later that they were having a crackdown that week and had drafted in a taskforce) My fags were confiscated, as were my suitcases, I was held for 8 hours in a cell, then I had to go to court and I was sentenced to 100 hours working in Oxfam. (I kid you not) I think the magistrate knew I wasn?t really a smuggler, but It could have been much worse If you are thinking of bringing ANYTHING through customs that you shouldn?t, DONT! It really isn?t worth it. Title: Re: Las Vegas Post by: tikay on August 24, 2005, 01:37:12 AM I agree with Tom here. I was threatened with "the latex glove treatment" once, for a minor, & unintended, Customs problem. Never, never EVER, again. The world's best deterrent.......latex gloves. I had a big medical once, an all day job, the lot. "How's your prostate" he askd. My WHAT?, I thought. OK I think, I replied. We ought to check it, says the white coated Doc. OK I say. Get on your knees, doggy style, says he. Do WHAT? I'm in a dressing gown. I do as I'm told, feeling rather stupid. He lifts my drerssing gown, and says "this won't hurt much - well, not for very long". THEN I heard the latex gloves being snapped on. "I just remembered, I had it tested last week, I say, hastily standing up........ Title: Re: Las Vegas Post by: The Wall on August 24, 2005, 09:57:31 AM Dont worry guys NO ONE is getting ANYWHERE near me wearing latex!! Im going to buy my clubs in the UK for sure now!
In answer to stoo, I was thinking about the Mizuno Mx 17's (http://www.americangolf.co.uk/navproduct.asp?prod=000138217) or maybe a set of Taylor Made RAC OS II (http://www.americangolf.co.uk/navproduct.asp?prod=000137665) I havent decided yet though and Im still not sure about a new driver. I will go on a testing mission once I get back from vegas ;D Title: Re: Las Vegas Post by: Colchester Kev on August 24, 2005, 01:29:51 PM Dont worry guys NO ONE is getting ANYWHERE near me wearing latex!! Well i wont give you my suggestions for nights out in vegas then ;) Title: Re: Las Vegas Post by: The Wall on August 24, 2005, 01:53:41 PM Ha Ha No please do Kev! Im taking my digital camera Im going to 'document' the whole trip..........
Title: Re: Las Vegas Post by: Colchester Kev on August 24, 2005, 02:09:29 PM lol .. get yaself to the Palms... best looking cocktail waitresses and best uniforms ;)
Nice card room there too, they had excellent comps on during the world series, although i think that was a type of festival, so im not sure what the regular comps are like. We stayed at the orleans, very good poker games, and if you get sick of bottled beer they have an irish pub in there where ya can get a pint :) Have a fantastic time there, but remember the safety rules... STAY ON THE STRIP !!! do not get tempted into straying after dark. If you get a chance you must visit the gamblers store which is downtown, it is a real experience, you could stay in there for ages.. if you can think of anything gambling related that they dont stock i will be amazed. Also you must visit binions, thats a proper casino, the atmosphere in there is unreal, its so unlike all the plastic places on the strip. Title: Re: Las Vegas Post by: Ironside on August 24, 2005, 03:18:45 PM best way to get thru HM customs is to shave your head like a squaddie and carry a squaddies grip with you, never once got stopped and i always had more than the legal limit in duty free
Title: Re: Las Vegas Post by: stoo on August 24, 2005, 03:59:43 PM What clubs are you looking at? I think he said Golf Clubs, sorry couldnt resist! Hehe, should have thought more about the question really. Would deffinately go with Taylor Made myself, expensive though Title: Re: Las Vegas Post by: The Wall on August 24, 2005, 04:09:18 PM Yeah nice clubs those Taylor Made, If you click the link american golf offer a niceish price.... OMG SPAM!

Title: Re: Las Vegas Post by: The Wall on August 24, 2005, 04:21:44 PM Certainly have, love the game! Nice control system, nice courses, decent soundtrack. Im doing this (http://www.livinggolf.co.uk) on friday night, its exactly the same as Tiger Woods but you have to play it for 'real' and its located right next door to the Broadway Casino (check it out peeps)
Title: Re: Las Vegas Post by: Ironside on August 24, 2005, 04:24:38 PM nice one wall now this is where we need to have a blonde outing, golf without the walk then next door for some poker, followed by a trip to tha lapdancers.

That livinggolf thing looks awesome... bit of that before a drinking session would be ideal... in fact I might sought it out now hehe. Title: Re: Las Vegas Post by: Robert HM on August 24, 2005, 04:36:06 PM Get on your knees, doggy style, says he. Do WHAT? I'm in a dressing gown. I do as I'm told, feeling rather stupid.
