Title: Scotland's first Gaelic Secondary School Post by: Sark79 on August 22, 2006, 11:28:27 PM I just heard this on the news. I am undecided about whether or not this is a positive thing. I believe it is good to try and preserve the language, but I would be worried about sending my Kids there just in case an education taught primarily in Gaelic was looked down on by future employers.
Good or Bad? Title: Re: Scotland's first Gaelic Secondary School Post by: brad.strider on August 22, 2006, 11:32:54 PM I just heard this on the news. Title: Re: Scotland's first Gaelic Secondary School Post by: GlasgowBandit on August 22, 2006, 11:41:59 PM Of course its a good thing. It should be compulsary that all primary school children are taught Gaelíc alongside English. Then they should be given the option to extend their learning when they get to secondary school. I would argue that it is more importants for Scottosh children to learn Gaelíc that it is to learn a modern language such as French or German. Further, I believe that it would actually be much easier for our children to pick up modern languages at Secondary level if they where fluent in Gaelic from an early age. Many of the modern languages especially French and itallian derive from Latin which is also linked with the Gaelic language. As a nation we should be proud of our geritage and every effort should be made to make sure our heritage is preserved, the only way to do that is to make sure our children take it foward. I feel robbed that I was never afforded the opportunity to learn the native language of my country.
