Title: Question- Stud Eight or Better Post by: Dubai on August 25, 2006, 01:31:47 PM The number of hands ive played in this game can be counted on 1 hand and having never really studied the game I have a quick question.
If you start with 3 to a low. Ie A23. What % of the time will you make a low? I calculated something like 40-42%, however someone who knows the game better than me thinks its above 50%. Anyone actually know? Title: Re: Question- Stud Eight or Better Post by: M3boy on August 25, 2006, 03:41:48 PM I do not know the exact odds, but here is my theory
If you play with 3 others (ie 12 cards already out) and no one is showing a low card, then there are 40 cards left in the deck. There are 20 cards (ie 4 5 6 7 or 8) that you need 2 of from your 4 remaining cards to come. This would suggest to me that 50% sounds reasonable, but cannot be more - likely to be a little less as some of the cards will already be out. Mind you, from what ive seen playing this game on the net - not many others have a clue how to play the game!! Title: Re: Question- Stud Eight or Better Post by: Jon MW on August 25, 2006, 03:53:16 PM Table of 8, I reckon it'd be even lower- more like low 30's %
Title: Re: Question- Stud Eight or Better Post by: M3boy on August 25, 2006, 04:01:32 PM table of 8 in my opinion would be 35% - using basic ratio principles
Title: Re: Question- Stud Eight or Better Post by: M3boy on August 25, 2006, 04:18:46 PM Right, I can see why someone told you it was over 50% for this reason :
Best possible odds : Against 7 other players AND none of them have Ace to 8- ie 21 cards out. So 31 cards left 20 cards are 3 to 8 and you need 2 from 4 - giving you odds of way over 50% Worse possible odds : Against 7 other players AND ALL of them have Ace to 8- ie 21 cards out. So 31 cards left 3 cards are 3 to 8 and you need 2 from 4 - giving you odds of below 10% 35% would therefore seem an "average" chance of hitting the nut low Title: Re: Question- Stud Eight or Better Post by: ifm on August 25, 2006, 04:25:57 PM Not sure but isn't it more complicated than that...........from the 20 cards hitting 2 does not necessarily give you the low, you need to hit specific cards.
i.e. hitting 2x5's is no good so wouldn't that need to be factored in? Good point! Cant be bothered to work that out though!! (just take a "bit" off lol) Title: Re: Question- Stud Eight or Better Post by: ifm on August 25, 2006, 04:43:55 PM I started to work it out earlier but gave up pretty quickly :)
2 dimes has a calculator for stud hi/lo but it can't give specifics on the hand you draw to. |
