Post by: Nem on August 28, 2006, 02:31:36 PM
I dont know what I have done to my computer, But I cannot see anything on my desktop. I have tried to restart my lappy in safe mode but to no avail.

Does anyone know how to do system restore without being able to go to start>all prgrams>etc...?

I am unable to install IE to get windows update

Beat me too it, you googled as well.  Half way down is a site you can download the missing file from and put it where it belongs, hope that helps.

Do Ctrl + Alt +Delete to open task manager, then click "file">"run new task", type ' cmd '  into the box. In the command window, enter the following to get system restore  %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe  That should get you to the welcome screen.

Good luck.

I use this

http://www.farstone.com/software/restoreit.htm

Great piece of software, basically takes a complete snapshot of your hard drive and compresses it into a secure section of your hard disc. Then it updates every (whenever you choose) so if you have any problems it puts everything back exactly the way it was.
