Title: Etiquette at cash tables Post by: madasahatstand on August 29, 2006, 09:45:55 AM morning all
the under 21 thread got me thinking about cash games. How soon could i stand up and leave with cash (if i won) without pissing anyone off? If i sat in cin cins and took a couple of grand (in my dreams) in the first hour, is it acceptable to get up and go home? Is this different in a big casino for example, vegas? thanks in advance mad Title: Re: Etiquette at cash tables Post by: bolt pp on August 29, 2006, 09:56:21 AM I think its common courtesy to give people a little bit of warning after taking down some nice pots that you'll be leaving soon.
not just because its considered as being polite but i thinks its right to give people a chance to get a bit of their dough back. I like to stay to the end one way or another but if i really had to go i'd make sure that i gave people around the table ample warning. you dont even have to play any hands, just sit and fold for the next half hour if you like, i think that just your presence lets the other players know that your playing the game. Ive played in some big private cash games where knowone would dream of slipping off without giving notice, they could if they liked but i know they'd be refused a seat the next time they wanted to play. The immorality surrounding smash and grab tactics have been discussed exhaustively on various threads throughout the past couple of days but a point i didnt see raised was why would you want to? I double up early in a cash game your gonna have to announce a free bar to get me out of my seat! Title: Re: Etiquette at cash tables Post by: madasahatstand on August 29, 2006, 10:09:06 AM why would i want to? well maybe cause i aint used to having a few grand in my back pocket? not that i would. i was just wondering what would happen if i did? in the old days you would probably get shot for less....lol i like playing cash online but might be a bit too scared to play it live. real money and online money dont feel the same to me. online is very dangerous to fritter all your cash away. ill know to stay a while if i ever do have that big win, if i ever venture into a cash table:)

That's not out of disrespect to the other players, but because I'm not a cash game player really so if I win big, I'm off. If I end up in a cash game live, then I probably wouldn't run, I'd just really tighten up, give some notice and play for another 20 mins or so before leaving.
I suppose those that play cash generally don't leave anyway, like Bolt says, why would they want too? They'd probably see it as easy money and hang around. (I ussualyl therefore make it 45 minutes or state my intention when sitting down...if I sit down at 1 I will let eferyone know that I'm gone at 4) Title: Re: Etiquette at cash tables Post by: Zanshin on August 29, 2006, 04:45:44 PM My 1st ever live cash game was at cin cins a few week back a 1 / 1 / 2 NL game.
I wasn't sure of the etiquette regarding leaving so at 12:00 I asked the question and was told 1/2 hr notice would be fine so I just said then that I'd be leaving at 1am (earlier if I lost the lot) ;) Sure I must have made some other etiquette errors but nothing was said so it could not have been anything major. I'll be having a go at the £50 freeze in the Stanley at the weekend. Could end up dealing for the 1st time - now that should be interesting :dontask: |
