Since the rainbow shut its cardroom you have obviously forgot how to spell Guarantee. LOL. I won't get bitchy with you Dan, but is there any reason at the moment why you don't Guarantee for the other days? You know we will be going 7 days shortly at the Broadway not just SUN, MON,TUES and WEDS. No bitterness just curious?

guarentees are uslaly a desperate attempt to claw back lost custom hehehee. I remember in my time at walsall it was made very clear that " We will NEVER EVER add to a poker competition prize fund". Its amazing what a bit of competition can do huh

This is great news - Walsall isn't too far away from me and I hear it's guaranteed you get to see a fight on a Friday? Does anyone know if that's true? There was one outside the palm beach on Tuesday evening and I've got the taste of blood now.

Two reasons why we do not Guarantee!

1st reason is that if we guarantee £5000 Grosvenor will guarantee £6000 and so on. As J10 is only a recognized as a card room not really recognized as a casino. (meaning reputation) So head office at Grosvenor need to fight to keep  the card room busy.

2nd reason is that we pride ourselves on the service and facilities that we can offer.

We regularly add to competitions, we don't charge reg fees and we supply dealers for ALL games. Pleasant enviroment and pleasant staff. Altogether more value IMO As Guarantees are only made by card rooms when they know they will make them, an exeption to this is THE SHAFTESBURY casino (our sister club) west brom. Who do an uncondtitional Guarantee of £2000 and regularly add e.g. added £1200 to an 18 entry comp. Still added £900 the next week etc. As the regular comps are hitting the £5k mark anyway with a max field of 80, you can go down to Grosvenor and play a Guaranteed tourny (£5k) that makes £6000 but you have to play 110 players. Take your choice, i have noticed players on here use statistics a lot, implying intelligence. I urge you to way up where the value is Odds may change a little after the festival as we will be perminantly keeping the additional 2 tables to make ie a 110 seater with a lot of room to expand even more, to the point where we may have 2 seperate card rooms!

I will reitterate a previous point, Walsall is and will be clutching at straws in 6 mths time unless they do something radical. Including a lot of underhandedness, which has already been shown. But we will do our thing regardless of J10's attempts to mess us up. And we will not be godded into a battle with them. We will just continue the way we are and let people choose themselves where they want to go. This is all fantastic for Central uk poker players as poker has returned to Birmingham in a big way, not seen since the Rainbow was a recognized card room all over the world!

You are right Yogi- watch the Guarantees pop up ! I predict a guarantee on Fridays next!! As that will be our next night on our programme.

Bluewolf- that was there policy,AFTER the rainbow shut its card room and they had the monopoly and they have lost a lot of custom.....wait till their league finishes ;) . I already know Dani had something big planned during that week, but Head office thinks Grand Prix satellite on the 7th takes priority. Looking forward to the delights of their September Programme as somethings brewing me thinks!

anothe rbig company push for the garnd prix hehehehe. Its strange down at J10 it started goin downhill when i wa sthere then lifted then after the closure of the rainbow the comfort zone syndrome came in and it just rested on its laurels a little. Star cit yopened and there was a staff exodus but after stanleys ummed and ahhed about its cardroom J10 agin got soem breathing space. All of a sudden the broadway pops up and bam people at J10 start shaking a bit. Altho i heard the shaftsbury was taking players off em before then.

Dont get me wrong Zak and Dani (well zak probably lol ;D) have done well there, by=ut the emergance of the broadway looks to hav caught them on the back foot a little even though there wa splenty of warning given. And even more i hear the setup at the new club in walsall has a great cardroom just that theres no staff for it at the moment, could make for very interesting times in the midlands, if only management were the same in their backing up here as they are down there regarding poker

Just to prove there is nothing personal(tongue in cheek) I think the Sorrento (Blue Chip) has a fantastic card room but they are in the completely wrong location! Do you remember how long it took the players to move to J10 from the Rainbow!! We have been open 4 mths and are doing a lot better than I predicted as poker players take a while to ditch their regular haunts!

dik, where do u get ur info? u need to sack ur scouts there not giving u correct information.
the guaarentees seem to be workin though as mon broadway had only 44 runners and a prize pool of, was it £2400? and tues only 18 runners for ur sat? correct me if im wrong please!!!!!!!

and the walsall figures were 79 runners with a prize pool of £6020 for mon and 74 runners making £5400 for tuesday.

so really broadway is the least of mine or zaks concern at the moment, if we were worried of any one, which we r not, it would be Star City rather than broadway ;)

so two tuesdays ago when we had 88 players and turned 16 away and the Shaftesbury had 39 you had 29 in Walsall.... you didn' t change your advertised programme and pop a £20 Nl HE with a £5000 guarantee??????????? I didn't expect many for the satellite as its 2 weeks away. We still added £300 to make 2 seats LOL And you are right... Monday was a big disappointment but only time will tell Dan. My scouts are more reliable than you think as they are not customers!

I have always believed that tourny guararentees are a sprat to catch a mackeral, as the casino usally adds nothing in the end.
But I think you are being a bit shortsighted in thinking that you dont need to guarantee anything dik9 as you offer other things   i.e  dealers and no reg fees. (by the way J10 provide dealers for all comps above £10)
As someone who plays poker a lot, I think im able to say what we look at is the prize pool firstly in relation to the entry fee. Walsall are getting on average about 70 players for their guarateed tournys, so I think that is good value. Playing against 75 - 100 is no difference in my opinion.

You are correct in saying Walsall are only guaranteing the comps since the Broadway started, but thats what buisness is about, keeping 1 foot ahead of the competition.

I will say I have heard great things about the Broadway and will try it for myself soonand look forward to meeting you dik9. I like your intrest in the game and was praising your attempts at introducing alternates to the GB.

  Finally God Bless the competition.

I thought there was a truce its getting nasty in here.

HEHEHEHEHE.

There is plenty of players for you boys to fight over.

I know what u mean about location Dik9. For years the good old never changing management in Blackpool have been warned about anywhere opening in Manchester could rip the heart out of the card room. Lo and behold. Finally it has happened. All be it only on one night. WHat is there response??????????????? A chnage of schedule to take them on. All well and good. When asked about reg fees or food or something extra for the players to fight against the reg free and free food they get in Manchester. Stony Silence.

The management( and myself a teeny weeny bit) sat on their laurels as no one could touch us. Not so now. I pray for them to challenge us directly on another night. Then perhaps management will start to listen to the people that know the players and give us some leeway.

and hence why walsall has been so successful in previous years, due to the fact that the management have been 100% supportive, as i imagine they are at the broadway. this i feel is cruciial to securing a top status in poker players minds, even if at times you leave it late to see someone elses approach or fail to heed warnings. the fact that both willingness to make changes .

At the end of the day the players will be the real winners here as long as the quest to attract the most doesnt get too silly and become about 1up manship

The card room capacity itself will be 110 from Friday (perminantly). But we have another area that may be used for a cardroom but not in this mini festival. All depends how successful it will be!

I dont know why, but some casinos see poker players as a pain in the arse (mind you I could agree with them about some  ;) ) but I have witnessed some casinos when they have had no poker available and they are like ghost towns.
Getting an extra 70  - 100 players through those doors is valuable to the casinos ,as they only need a small % to play the house games.
So Bluewolf, dont ever think the poker players will be the only ones to benefit, trust me, casinos need poker players.

Some Casinos need poker players. But still the majority treat u like shit.

Numbers through the door. That is it. Which is fine you all get a place to play poker. And get some good prize money generated.

Yes you are right casinos that have poker players will benefit. Not the staff who have to organise them. They will still get paid a pittance no matter how many players there are. 30 or 130 I will get the same. Making every night packed to the rafters will not do me any good. Now that may make me sound like i dont want too many players in. And I'm just there too get my money, which I suppose is how I feel sometimes.

I want Blackpool to be THE PLACE to play cards in the UK. That is why I originally went in2 the card room. Anybody in the casino industry will tell you. Don't go into the card room it's professional suicide. Lots of work Little reward. No future. No promotion in it.

So yes apart from the bean counters who piss you all off, and me as well, only the poker players will profit from a little card room war.

Yogi

not sure if i will be not played in a while been injured as usual.

The casinos will benefit to some extent obviously but surely as a player you must think its good the effort that Dik and dani are putting in to get your attentions in the cardroom, neither of them has mentioned the magic roundabout etc and i am sure that they both perosnally want you in the cardroom and are not to bothered about the drop in the pit??? perhaps i'm wrong but neither of them strike me as pit people, these guys are competiting for you guys, altho obviously the management themselves see it as peopel through  the doors.

could i say that broadway has a huge advantage as i see it over walsall in the fact the its closer to many of the players its trying to attract why jump in a car and drive for 30 minutes each way when you can walk, bus, taxi to venue or even just drive 5 minutes. walsall will always have to offer that little extra  to attract players that live closer to broadway

My comments were in no way aimed at Dani or Zac, which im sure they would know, as I always offer support to those guys. They have really tried to make things happen at Walsall, and it has started to pay off.
What I was trying to say is, dont believe everything is being done solely for the poker player.
The management know the importance of getting extra bodies through the doors and it is those who have the final say.
But a pat on the back for Dani & Zac for giving us poker players a voice at Walsall.I really do believe that those guys want to make Walsall the best cardroom in the UK.

Yogi, I respect you as a cardroom manager and think you too show a great intrest on poker players behalf, I also expect it is so frustrating when your hands are tied by people who dont have a clue about a cardroom.
I really understand your frustration at the lack of financial reward you guys get for making things a success and I welcome the days when the G Board wake up and allow tipping as in the US.
I truely believe if & when that happens, the casino industry will be a great one and wont experience the high  volume of new staff that it currently does.

I didn't mean for that to come across as a whinge about poor pay. I was just stating a fact that only poker players and the upper casino management would get anything out of gettin people through the door. I enjoy my job, and if I wanted more money could get it. But I happen to like the people that come in. Even if they do rile me at times. Most card room supervisors/managers do otherwise they wouldnt be able to spend years in the same place. I also find they all want to improve and expand their own card rooms. This is pride. They don't do it for more money. They do it to advance the game, and like to think their own little card room is the best. It's an Ego thing I'm sure. Thats why I do it anyway. Of course we all whinde slightly about pay, but you will probably find its not all money with us.

Will Star City staff it or will they just staff it until they start to get busy then employ their dealers on the pit floor again. Just with Stanleys admissions crashing through the floor last year, that is prob what they r thinking

star city are just desperate for custom, they have lost so much money over the last few years they will try anything to attract custom.
incidentally they were charging poker players £1 per pint of lager but now it's £1.50.........still cheap but obviously they are losing patience with poker.

Title: Re: Guarentee's - Walsall

i dunno about that iron,

Walsall is an established venue in poker terms with a good location and parking (which seems to be very important to some players), festivals there are often well recieved. Its had its ups and downs as has any cardroom but has managed to stay ahead of most of the other cardrooms in uk as a promient player in the business when others have fell by the wayside. Dani and Zak seem to have done a good job (see dani no slurs about your integrity from me here lol) and the new competition from the ever emerging Broadway, as i said early will bring out the best in both parties. players dont just travel from Birmingham to play in walsall, i remember several players from the south coast who came up every week.

Dik has done a fantastic job at the broadway in such a short spaceof time to generate the postive remarks that have come and obviously some nights one club will be quiet whereas one will be full, thats just business in general.

Both clubs have a massive pool of players to draw from and i think it shows great things about Dik and dani that they are both determined to try and pull as many as they can from that pool regardless of one another.

Yogi, your intrest in the cardroom is easy to see, ie  posting on poker forums, and the proffesional way in which your cardroom is ran.
After Walsall, I must say Blackpool is my favourite place to play poker(srry dik9, havent played at Broadway yet ) in the UK that is ;D
One of the reasons for that is the way you run it, its great to deal with someone who has a clue and an intrest in the game.
Do not give up the good work however much the guys upstairs piss you off. Which im sure you wont.

Must tell you about an funny incident (although , I wasnt laughing at the time )
On tuesday in Walsalls £20 re buy n/l tourny , I had just re raised a player all in, when the dealer started  breaking down the bet in comparrison with the players chips. I asked the dealer to wait as there was another player to act. I told him it was 18k for this other player if he wanted to call and it was best to leave the chips alone in front of me as this was no limit.
After the 2 players had folded the dealer told me he wasnt bothered about the other player, as he had a tell on him, and knew he was going to fold.
Well I was nearly speachless, and if you know me, that is nigh on impossible.
So I politely said "will you leave the tells on players to me and ill leave the dealing to you "
(omitted actual swearwords as this is before the watershed )

They do it to advance the game, and like to think their own little card room is the best. It's an Ego thing I'm sure. Thats why I do it anyway. Of course we all whinde slightly about pay, but you will probably find its not all money with us.

Yogi

This Opinion is shared and understood by all card room managers. Don't you dare give up Yogi we will triumph one day LOL My own feeling is that poker is growing to such an extent that at some stage casino's will part with card rooms and be run as a seperate entity (i.e. Gutshot's) and purely be run for the poker players! Our experience and persistancy will pay off, and we will be able to do our jobs (which we love) on higher wages and with the attitude that we deserve. Reputation at the moment is highly sort after, so we have to do the best with what we have got at the moment! If that means taking crap from money men, then so be it. I am in the unusal position that MY money men seem to want poker, but the pit bosses face is a picture when I tell him that I need 2 extra staff!!

u dont really want to look like the bad guy in this do you?

the only concern of mine and walsalls if giving the poker players the best service possible

Dani, I never once mentioned the structure of walsall, I don't know it!!

I also get paid chicken feed!

Why Bring Yogi into it?

Scouts, refering to customers? Nope!

New to this....NOT was running cardrooms before you left school !

I don't need to tarnish your " good name" I was there when your employment was terminated at West Brom!

Not trying to be the bad guy, I didn't pose as a customer to dis your casino!!

"the only concern of mine and walsalls if giving the poker players the best possible service" Carry on the good work....thats what you are employed to do! As I am!

Thanks for the education!!

Paul is a top bloke and a sterling card room Manager and I like him, think he liked me when he offered me the job 2 years ago!!

Funny that, I think I escorted you off the premises wishing you luck in your future!  Paul was the AGM and card room manager and Zak was a punter in the Shaftesbury! get your facts straight. I worked with Zak at Sergeant Yorkes (yes the old grosvenor) Zak is a sound bloke who knows his stuff especially in the cardroom. Would never say a bad word against him! If you are denying your employment was "teminated" then thats your perogative. Truth is it is personal as I know the truth, but I am legally not allowed to put it on here!

Dont mind you using my name Dani V, my point was though that not everyone likes their identity being revealed (as karabiner agreed with). That point was being overlooked in my opinion, although quite innocently.
Its all about choice  (and guarentees) ;D
