Post by: Dubai on September 02, 2006, 04:49:57 AM
Looking for somewhere good to take the MIT dice-squad in London. Best casinos for craps?

First time I log in for a while and this is the first post I see!

In answer to your question, the toilets in the Vic are quite pleasant.

The vic does also have a craps table.

As does The Sportsman, the atmosphere isn't quite the same as playing here in Vegas though.

There are a couple of places, none of them begin with the letter G though.

There is a huge amount of skill in craps, and the art of throwing 2 dice is vastly underrated. These lads are the best in the game, they can regularly roll for hours without a 7. They also know when its not their day after a few rolls, so let someone else take control. Bet munipulation, throwing deviations etc. They are the best.

Just visited the Gamblers store in Downtown Vegas picked up my first ever poker books Greenstein's Ace on The River and Blair Rodman and Lee Nelson's Kill Phil, anyway the relevance to this thread was my amazement at the number of strategy books available on Craps. My advice to the MIT Dice Squad is Pressing is for pansies Parlay is the only word you need to know.

There was a guy in the US who decided to get really good at throwing dice for craps so he built his own craps table (we're talking about 25 years ago) in his house and spent hours and hours every day just throwing the dice. The secret was in arranging the dice in his hand in a certain way and then getting them to hit off the end wall in such a way that they didn't rotate.

He did quite well, apparantly.

As someone who deals dice, I find this really hard to believe. Have you seen the texture of the walls around the inside of a dice table? To Qualify as a throw they must hit this wall (which is designed in such a way this is neigh on impossible). Just as hitting a specific number in roulette. The hazards in both protect against this.

Stanford Wong says that he can control dice. Lot's of talk about it on the private pages at BJ21.com.

I know croups who are convinced they can spin numbers, and not lost a bet with them yet :D . There are ways to win regularly, but usually involve loaded dice, teams or bent dealers or even all three.

Maybe it was so that they spun a specific full rotation or something. There was a TV programme about him.

Yes but you don't need to be able to hit a specific number at roulette to win.  If you could just eliminate say 15% of the wheel it would give you a huge edge. Like roulette the house edge on craps is pretty thin so it wouldn't take much influence on the dice to swing the odds in the players favour.

You know who Wong is right? Lot's of very intelligent people didn't believe him so they set up a bet for $20K or so IIRC. They got the maths guys to work out the bet so it was statistically significant to n standard deviations so that there was .000x% chance or something of it being a random event, I don't even understand how to play the game let alone how they worked it all out. Anyway Stanford won the bet. There are thousands of posts on BJ21 about it. Half of them at least from people who think it's a load of BS.

Personally I think it's a lot easier to read a couple of books about poker and make a bit of money that way but there are people making money everyday in casinos in the US from games which are supposedly impossible for people to make money at long term.

Have you read "Casino Game Protection" by Steve Forte or "Beyond Counting" by James Grosjean? Do people who work in casinos in the UK have to learn about advantage play and all the sneaky ways there are to cheat? Or maybe the average UK punter doesn't even know blackjack basic stategy so maybe there's no need? I've written all this and I'm thinking now that it's likely that you have forgotten far more than I'll ever know about this sort of stuff. Genuinely interested to know how clued up Casinos are about this sort of thing.

The people who need to be are clued up, that's why they still have a business, I have seen cheats am and pro, opportunists, armed robbers, card counters, bent staff, etc. There are elements that will try and find any way to take money out of a casino and it is in the casino's best interest to know any scam going. I have not read either book, however I am sure if the casino could not find a reason why "said" person was always winning, after investigation, then they would use their right to bar the person without giving a reason. In the UK maximum bets limits the damage if anyone could do this and sure they would be asked to leave. I cannot argue regarding Stanford Wong, I have heard of him and vaguely remember something of the challenge. I still find it difficult to believe that someone throws 2 precision dice 8 foot in the air having to have the power to hit the hazard wall (rubber diamonds) and bounce back, and it not be random? As i said though I haven't seen him in action and therefore if it is a controlled experiment and it has been proved to be done. Then I am sure he is nationally barred :D
