Title: What does he have?
Post by: MrMoves on September 11, 2006, 09:37:15 AM
£100 Freeze at Broadway last night:

I'm UTG with QQ.  Blinds are 50/100.

I raise to 500 to clear out the crap or take it then and there.  Only SB and BB call.

Flop: 2,2,9 rainbow

It's checked to me.  I make it 1,000

SB raises to 2,500.  BB folds.  I don't think he has a two, he's pretty tight.  I don't think he has pocket nines (why scare me off?) - he didn't have either.

What do you put him on? (if you were on my table or watching please don't say)

Not much info to go on, I would guess  Aspades 9s ( any suit ), possibly pocket 8's or 7's as 3 way after a decent raise this is a fairly nice flop for 7's and 8's .

I agree completly with Newman.

A9, 77, 88. Then again, if hes a tight and very clever player, he could have AA or KK.

But i doubt it, and you still have to move i think.

two over cards? I tend to make this play when I think I might scare someone off.

KQ AK.

Or a pocket pair...probably a lot lower then yours.

If' I'm holding Q's on this flop I would think I'm still well ahead.

If he's tight, I wouldn't have thought overcards, I'd go for A9 or any pocket pair

I put him on one of four hands.  A9, TT, JJ or KK

I figured my QQ would be good 75% of the time and moved all-in for 5500 (3000 more to him).  He called and showed Aces.

This is the first time I've been trapped by disguised pocket aces.  I have done it myself but only when I had a huge stack vrs a smaller stack.  I'm undecided if the flat call of the pre-flop raise so early in a tournament is genius or silly.

I couldn't help but admire it last night, however.... as a trudged off back to the car park!  :D

9 2 - hoping you have hit the 2, or indeed the 9 and try and push ???

Pocket Aces, exactly what I thought!  ;goodvevil;

I would of played 9 2 exactly the same way - hit the nuts, make a raise and wait for Mr Moves to push over the top - he is such a fish!!!

Looks like he was indeed very clever. I like this play by him.

When asking questions like this, you HAVE to give the stack sizes.  They are as important as your hole cards.

True, not that it matters now.  But, for reference, we both had roughly 5500.  I had him out chipped by a couple of hundred (that went on the next hand).

I dont see anything out of the ordinary in this hand snd think you both played it fine.

Even though it is realatively early in the tournament, i have no issue with his flat call preflop. U have made a 5x raise UTG and clearly have a good hand, if he re-pops you preflop he telegraphs his hand completely and allows you to get away from every other hand except KK in that spot. Flat calling is probably the best move in my opinion. Since the stacks are still deep enoough to give implied odds to small pairs and suited connectors you dont really know what he has, always a problem.

If i was in your shoes, Im pretty sure i would have gone bust on this hand as well. agaisnt a random guy in a £100 comp, i think you are way in front more times than you run into sneaky AA man

Thanks Pab.  Part of me wanted to fold - thinking KK.  I guess I could have found a better spot as it was still early.

He outplayed me and I admire that.
