On September 12th, 2006 the Poker Players Alliance is teaming up with Full Tilt Poker, along with some of online poker's other notable card rooms, poker blogs, and forums to organize a "Phone March" on Capitol Hill. From 9AM ET until 5:30PM ET on Tuesday, September 12th, we are asking all Tilters and anyone else interested in defending poker to call this toll free number - 800-289-1136 - and be patched through to one of your two U.S. Senators in Washington D.C. When you call the 800 number, you will hear a recording from PPA member Greg "Fossilman" Raymer and then you will be prompted to enter your five digit zip code so you can be directed, free of charge, to your Senator's office. Once you reach your senator's office, please let them know you support online poker, and make the following key points in your message: I am voter in your state. I strongly oppose any legislation that would prohibit online poker and urge the Senator to vote against such legislation. Poker is a skill game enjoyed by 70 million Americans. The Senator should seek to regulate online poker much like the government regulates other forms of gaming, like lotteries. Prohibitions don't work - any legislation that tries to ban online poker will only drive those players underground. Again, I urge the Senator to oppose any attempts to prohibit me from playing the great American game of poker on the Internet. The threat to poker is real. Please forward this information to everyone you know who cares about poker and an American's freedom to use the Internet. We need everyone possible to make their voice heard on September 12th! the premise being phone in to answer some spurious question/puzzle and you "win".... problem is you arent guaranteed to even get a chance to answer the question...they "pick" calls at random so you can spend as much as you like "gambling" on achance to win 50 quid and there seems to be no legislation to stop this...in fact its on at least 4-5 channels including ITV...phone bills will be a fortune and people have even easier access to this than to a club or casino bit poker...oh no thats dangerous... ;frustrated; that aside it seems to be a turn the clock back effort to have the big casinos and the government telling us how and when we should go about our lawful right to spend our money how we see fit...and to fleece us whilst they are at it..at least on line you know who is fleecing you! I had a go once when I was bored. I managed to get through twice, but still didn't come up with the correct answers - still got no idea what they were. I think it cost me about £20, so I probably got off quite lightly! Title: Re: Interesting..... .at least with poker you either have to actually got to a club or register and download on line and deposit money. i dont hear the government talking about legislating these or being concerned about the ease of youngsters using parents phones to cripple them financially. i mean come on you get a chance to win a chance to win 50 quid...its like a sub satellite feeder to a satellite... :D ps moves america dont need to invade us.....we surrendered years ago to a big mac , double fries :D |
