Title: Advice on when to stick it all in!!! Post by: Horneris on September 12, 2006, 02:25:30 PM Ok. Live tourney last night, 17 left. Top 9 make final table, top 4 paid.
You have 5,100. Blinds are big, 600/1200, 9 seater table and you are 2 seats away from your next Big Blind. You havent had a hand all night and you get Jd Kd. Would you advise to stick it all in now, or continue to wait for a better hand?? Given that you are in such a bad/early position Which range of hands would you consider moving in with here, given the blinds are so big in relation to your stack?? I'd also be looking for hands to stick it in about 10 minutes previously, stops you getting into dire spots like this, if you have enough chips you can get em to fold, when you are this low you are real likely to get looked up Title: Re: Advice on when to stick it all in!!! You really do not want to drop below 5 BB's since if you do, your opponent should call you with any two cards. Title: Re: Advice on when to stick it all in!!! Post by: leighton_87 on September 12, 2006, 02:31:49 PM I'm sticking it in here, You have around 4x BB so your at this stage I'm getting in any unraised pot and hoping that I have live cards and I'll be a 40-60 at the worst. You also have some slight folding equity here so you may pick up the blinds, this wouldn't happen in the next round. I'm playing a wide range of hands here, but definitly not ace-rag, if you do get called you want 2 live cards and if their suited all the better.
Title: Re: Advice on when to stick it all in!!! Post by: tantrum on September 12, 2006, 02:59:50 PM All in, If the BB is the chip leader s/he will most probably call you with any two so you might actually double up here.
The art of short stack play is to never go below 10-15 xBB as that way you can steal blinds and survive for a long period of time when card dead. Quote I'm playing a wide range of hands here, but definitely not ace-rag, if you do get called you want 2 live cards and if their suited all the better. wise wordsTitle: Re: Advice on when to stick it all in!!! Title: Re: Advice on when to stick it all in!!! Post by: Royal Flush on September 12, 2006, 03:12:09 PM Nothing really to add, this is an easy push. One question though, why does this: You havent had a hand all night Make a diffrence? Title: Re: Advice on when to stick it all in!!! Post by: Horneris on September 12, 2006, 03:39:11 PM Ok. I missed out a vital part. It was just after the Rebuy period had ended, about 10 mins after. So i hadnt let my stack dwindle down.
Thanks for all your advice tho. I moved in, and was called by 5c 5h and i was happy to see Jh Js 6s 7c Kd hit the board. I would consider myself a tight player though (after the rebuys) and with that many people to act behind me, didnt really want to put my tournament on the line with just Jd Kd. Obviously i had to, and after your replies, i will know its right to do so every time. Although unlike as some people have commented, im not sure id make that move with the Jd Kd in that position if i had a stack of around 12000 (10x BB). I think i'd rather give myself another couple of rounds to find a high ace or high pair (if moving in this position). Although i would make the move in late position Title: Re: Advice on when to stick it all in!!! Post by: totalise on September 12, 2006, 03:41:41 PM nice structure!
Title: Re: Advice on when to stick it all in!!! Post by: temp0r on September 12, 2006, 03:42:55 PM when you push here you're probably only getting action if you're behind. and in this case you were. lucky for you it was pretty a coinflip though. you still had to do it with only 4x the BB!
i had about 4x the BB recently for a live satelitte to a major tournament and found the exact same hand as you under the gun and pushed actually..a guy called with aces and i hit a flush on his ass and ended up qualifying! true story... Post by: LeKnave on September 12, 2006, 05:05:30 PM 10 mins after rebuys horner?
its goes 200/400, 300/600, 400/800 then 600/1200 and as each level is 15 mins each, its looks to be 1 hour after rebuys... Title: Re: Advice on when to stick it all in!!! Post by: Royal Flush on September 12, 2006, 05:19:31 PM or 46 minutes at least.

For decent players in order to call my raise they have to have better hand then me to call my raise. I can only do that because my image is that of rock tight scary chicken. It works 90% of the time. when I am called I either bust or suck out (If I make a move with any two), but with short stack one has to take those risks in order to survive the tourney.
