 I was in Vegas about a month ago and this hand came up. I meant to post it earlier but I forgot to. I was thinking about it again today at work and would like some comments.

  The Excalibur 1/3 no limit. It was about 2 in the morning and I had been playing for about 2 hours. The max buy in was 200 and I was sitting on about 260. I had a pretty good table image, tight aggressive but I was caught bluffing a hand with a large bet on the river previous so the table knew I was capable of making a move.

   I was in the BB (3 dollars) and as usual, a straddler 2XBB (6 dollars) UTG. There were 3 limpers to the 6 dollars with the SB folding. With 28 dollars in the pot I get  Ad Ac. I raise another 25. The straddler folds with the first 2 limpers calling. Then the third limper left with 52 dollars remaining, goes all in. He was very loose and I knew he had nothing. It's now back to me. There is 152 dollars in the pot so I go all in, making it 230 to play. The first limper looks disgusted and makes some comment about being bet out of the pot and folds. The second limper is new to the table and then proceeds to 'stare' me down through his drunken haze. He then burps, and calls for his last 130. I show aces, drunken caller shows  Ad Ts ;whistle; and the guy who went all in for 52 shows  8s 5d  :o   

   The flop was  Tc 7h 9d turn was  Qc and the river was the  6s, giving 85 the straight. I won the side pot which strangely enough gave me a 5 dollar profit for the hand (thanks alcohol). 

   After the hand was over and 85 guy was stacking his chips, the initial limper who made the comment said to me 'you were lucky, I folded pocket 7's'

    Two questions - 1 Would anyone not have reraised all in for 230?  Which I still think was the right play BTW

                           2 If the 85 guy had not been involved in the hand and we played the flop, being first to act with that flop, what would I have bet, could I have avoided going broke with my aces?

                           3 I raised 25 and thank goodness I did, as it allowed 85 and his 52 remaining dollars to open the betting again by going all in. Do you people pay attention to the shortstack when he may move all in and keep the betting less then half of his stack? I thought this was perhaps the most interesting point of the hand

yes, and its a really great online tell as well, keep an eye out for it, people nearly always have a monster in spots like this


it isn't your play that caused you to go broke, just the way the cards fell. If you can alter the flop/turn/river you can avoid going broke, and if you fold you can avoid going broke, but both of these options are ludicrous.

I think he meant had it just been 3 way for $25 would he have been able to pass his AA against the set and AT.

Oh and yes, betting >50% of a stack is quite a good move, i do it with AK/JJ ish hands rather than AA/KK

nope...I like the all in reraise pre flop and all that and that little 7 was probably not gonna scare you enough into thinking the guy had a set.
