Title: Re: Nevermind my Celtic cousins Post by: henrik777 on September 14, 2006, 01:14:04 AM Because the biggest nations have so many teams in the champions league.
Nobody would pay to see accrington stanley play rangers now would they ? Sandy Title: Re: Nevermind my Celtic cousins Post by: Nem on September 14, 2006, 01:17:30 AM Because the biggest nations have so many teams in the champions league. Nobody would pay to see accrington stanley play rangers now would they ? Sandy It is all relative. champions League should be division 1 and Uefa Cup divison 2 It is just that the G14 want to get bigger and increase the gap from the chasing pack. But if the UEFA Cup was the same format as the Champions League the smaller clubs have a chance to break into the "Top 4" because of increase TV monies and Gate receipts Title: Re: Nevermind my Celtic cousins Post by: henrik777 on September 14, 2006, 01:23:08 AM Money was the reason it changed to a league for part of it but it can't be identical due to the amount of teams involved which is much higher than the champions league.
To make it identical to the champions league the qualification games would start too early or some smaller nations would miss out. Sandy Title: Re: Nevermind my Celtic cousins Post by: Nem on September 14, 2006, 01:27:59 AM Money was the reason it changed to a league for part of it but it can't be identical due to the amount of teams involved which is much higher than the champions league. To make it identical to the champions league the qualification games would start too early or some smaller nations would miss out. Sandy They would have to have qualifying rounds like they do in the Champions League (3rd and 4th placed teams) Title: Re: Nevermind my Celtic cousins Post by: henrik777 on September 14, 2006, 01:43:07 AM Last Updated: 13/09/2006 10:37 CETRounds First qualifying round 13 & 27 July 2006 Second qualifying round 10 & 24 August 2006 First Round 14 & 28 September 2006 Group stage 19 Oct & 14 Dec 2006 Round of 32 14 & 22 February 2007 Round of 16 08 & 15 March 2007 Quarter-finals 05 & 12 April 2007 Semi-finals 26 Apr & 03 May 2007 Final 16 May 2007 They have plenty of qualifying rounds already. Sandy In all honesty, they COULD make it into the 2nd Champions League. I'm sure that the same amount of teams qualify for the Champs League and Uefa Cup Title: Re: Nevermind my Celtic cousins Post by: henrik777 on September 14, 2006, 01:54:41 AM CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

I know it had one recently but it needs one people get!

Title: Re: Nevermind my Celtic cousins Post by: Scottish Dave on September 14, 2006, 09:04:55 PM Well played and nice result Spurs
Unlucky West Ham Title: Re: Nevermind my Celtic cousins Post by: Colchester Kev on September 14, 2006, 09:16:17 PM 1-0 Zakora and Dawson were superb, we were pretty poor as far as keeping the ball in the second half.
Slavia prague were woefull, but the prize for most abysmal performance of the night must go to Channel 5's football coverage, John barnes is a numpty, and the commentater was so bad, he out numptied Barnes. Happy with the result, but not overly pleased with the performance. Title: Re: Nevermind my Celtic cousins Post by: whufc65 on September 14, 2006, 09:59:01 PM Well Done Spurs
If only I could say the same for us :'( Title: Re: Nevermind my Celtic cousins Post by: Nem on September 14, 2006, 10:30:18 PM I myself was playing footy tonight, so I missed the game.
Any win away from home is a good win. Title: Re: Nevermind my Celtic cousins Post by: patman on September 15, 2006, 08:50:55 AM well played spurs..great resut
