Title: How cheated/Unlucky again!!! - we were fantastic tonight!
Post by: Scottish Dave on September 13, 2006, 10:55:15 PM
Ok the title might be a little rewarding towards a few players, but over all i feel celtic were great tonight:

It took celtic 15 minutes to find there feet and the pace of the game, but when they did they were holding the ball well and stood there ground.

I dont like to be the negative and blame others, but that penalty decision was awful (to me Giggs is one of the best footballers Britain has had in years but tonight his cheating has disgusted me)

I felt the defense (for an average age of only 24) had a great game, Wilson never really put a foot wrong, Caldwell had more than 2 penalty box tackles/blockages (IMHO played great), McManus was solid.

the main reason we lost tonight was mainly the Midfields passing, in particular, Graveson and Naka

Graveson, let too many balls leave his feet and fall to a Utd players, the main being Utd's 3rd goal, and Naka treated the ball like a hot tottie (ok great Freekick, cant take that away from him) but in the first have i was desperate for him to vacate the park.

vennegoor or Hess, again was superb, and took his goal well, what a signing he is proving to be.

In the end up it was all down to the Midfirlds passing abilities, far too many went astray and never made there intended.

Over all, i feel Celtic played some great football 75% pf the park/time.

If anything it will make benfica/Copenhagen stand up and look at Celtic and see we are the 2nd place finishers to defeat.

On a finbishing note, id like to comment on our Goal tender, outstanding MOM performance, so desperately deserving of at least a point.

If we play like that the other 5 games were MUST Finish 2nd

We were never embarrassed tonight!

So Proud xx

Scottish Dave

Dave,

With all due respect - I feel that the word elated is not the word you should be using.

Dave agree with you on some of that, thought that mcgeady was a bit pants, maybe because the way that they where told to play, same with naka really negative bar his free kick, but that said it good to see the young ones coming through, wee Sean maloney looked pretty sharp when he came on,just wish that had a chance to bed in with each other.

If I'm not wrong we started tonight with 4 first teamers from last season (Boruc,McManus,Lenny and Naka). Big Jan, Jarosik,Graveson have played a handful of games between them, Graveson hasn't had any sort pre-season to speak of and has been a little rusty but is undoubtably a class player. If thats the best the top team in the EPL can throw at us in their own midden I reckon we'll do them at Parkhead. Overall I'm disappointed that we we're beaten by a dive in the box but pleased that Strachan can motivate the troops for Europe.

C'mon the hoops!

PS. Going on the pre-match punditry the biggest question of the night has to be why UEFA didn't simply award Man U 3 points for having Rooney in their team.

and Richard i am also allowed my opinion, which is to say the opposite of baron, Jesus im not challenging him to strip to the waist and fight to the death im only having an open forum opinionated conversation, is that such a crime?

Also, where is the aggression, cos i sure as hell cant see any?

Arron has never had a problem with me, and i towards him. so why try to say there is aggression?

I think we have to take ALOT of positives out of this we were very unlucky not to take points (3 or 1) from Man U who looked very average. We lost the game because of the passing and posession in our own third of the pitch I dont think Gravesen and Lennon liked playing alongside one another and Gravesen looked half asleep.

A list of positives we should take:

- Maybe for a few weeks the english media will clamp it about their superiority over the SPL if it werent from a mare from Gravesen , lennon being non exsistant and losing  Wilson ( getting replaced by  rotflmfao rotflmfao Telfer [Who BTW should be a striker with heading like that]) it woulda been a much closer game which we coulda edged imo.

- JVoH showing he truley is a class act not just a big target man, a hell of a first touch and a great footballing brain held up the ball superbly. Other noteable mentions for Boruc and Nakamura ( who took a while to find his feet but after the goal looked cool and composed)

- We shouldnt get Michels again if he reffed our first one

- Wilson/Mick/caldwell/Naylor played fantastically... if anything the two defensive midfielders sitting in front of them casued a few who should go to the guy with the ball problems apart from that flawless Big up to our defence of whom so many questions have been asked in the past.

- Benfica and copenhagen drawing

- With the right tactics and the team gelling I truley believe we will take 1st and at the very worst 2nd in this group.

Celtic will beat Man Utd at parkhead.

you didnt mention what sort of action you wanted to take.

Celtic were 9/1 dogs last night to win.

After losing again 6/1 looks generous. I will be winnings this bet so it depends what odds you want to lay and how much you want to lose.

Chelsea. Argueably Liverpool. And until last season, Arsenal although I think 2nd best team in europe counts something!

My thoughts from another thread :-

Well played Man Utd, deserved win.

We only have ourselves to blame really, you cant give the ball away repeatedly in your own half & not get punished.

As I posted before the match this game came too early for Celtic, 5 of the starting line up are new signings & 3 of these have only been there for a couple of weeks, Man U have made 1 signing this close season & this team have played together for the last couple of seasons (BTW I'm not making excuses  ). This Celtic team will improve & we have a fighting chance of getting through this group.

On a final note I hope this maybe turn into a sensible discussion on the match & some people really should know better after the nonsense of the last couple of weeks on here. Passions will be running high & a few of us will no doubt have had a few beers so can we stop the trolling please

After getting beaten by Barca in the pinnacle of Europes competitions - the champions league - then yes, they are the 2nd greatest team in Europe for this season until someone better comes along.

Eurosport have a good program which is called 'Euro Top 24 clubs' or something like that. Basically, every match the top 24 clubs in Europe play (the biggest clubs in the European leagues) get awarded 3 points for a win and 1 for a draw (I think)

Anyway Arse were near the bottom - they lost more games than Spurs last season - how can they be the 2nd best team in Europe.

Going by you logic in that case Wigan are the 2nd best team in the English leagues because they lost to ManUre in the League Cup final.

overmars great player... paid £7m for him sold for £25m and replaced him with pires who cost £6m

anelka couldve been great... paid £0.5m for him sold for £23.5m and replaced him with henry £10.5m

petit good for us done nothing once he left( i think wenger must have known that too).. paid £3m sold for £7m and replaced with gilberto £4m

cole... possibly the best left back in the world just a horrible little runt.

nem my point is these players that you have mentioned left arsenal and apart from cole have all done nothing, they were all sold for profit, massive profit infact and been replaced by better players at a smaller cost.

this is just one reason our manger is the best ever in our history.

every team have players that leave look at man utd when ince, kanchelskis were at the top of their game.

Cole isn't a horrible little runt. He is a decent bloke off the pitch, a 'local lad' and an Arsenal fan through and through.

He left Arsenal because he is the best LB in the world and he wanted to play for the best team in the world captable of winning the league.

I cannot see Arsenal winning the league soon IMO.

Wneger is a great manager though, maybe though, just maybe - he should have shown Ashely a lickle bit more respect.

What Lennon has done since he arrived from Leeds is great news. The lad did good for us but has really grown into a top player. Wish we had a sell on clause when he goes to a big club in a few years :P

People do forget though that when Arsenal sold Petit and Overmars Arsenal didn't win the league for 3/4 seasons! It wasn't just a case of 'ah well replace them and keep winning' - not by a longshot. Transition takes time.

Winning clubs shouldn't be selling Petit/Overmars/Vieira/Anelka/Cole IMO - although I admit in most cases they were sold at the right time. Don't get me wrong, the replacements are great but the change over takes time.

This is one reasons why Arsenal have never done back to back Premierships IMO. Look at Man U (and to some extent Chelsea over the last two seasons) - same core players year in year out when they were winning.

Overmars left Arse in Summer 2000 and Arse won the league in 2001/2002

Did they leave that late? Wow. I'll shut up then.

lol next ul be saying tottenham are a big club not a selling club!

Overmars, Cole, Petit, Anelka come to mind.

Won a match yet this season? (in the league)

overmars great player... paid £7m for him sold for £25m and replaced him with pires who cost £6m

anelka couldve been great... paid £0.5m for him sold for £23.5m and replaced him with henry £10.5m

petit good for us done nothing once he left( i think wenger must have known that too).. paid £3m sold for £7m and replaced with gilberto £4m

cole... possibly the best left back in the world just a horrible little runt.

nem my point is these players that you have mentioned left arsenal and apart from cole have all done nothing, they were all sold for profit, massive profit infact and been replaced by better players at a smaller cost.

this is just one reason our manger is the best ever in our history.

every team have players that leave look at man utd when ince, kanchelskis were at the top of their game.

COYS

"He left Arsenal because he is the best LB in the world and he wanted to play for the best team in the world captable of winning the league."   he left for money, nothing more nothing less. the 1st meeting he had with chelsea last year was because he wanted 60k per week and we offered him 55k

"I cannot see Arsenal winning the league soon IMO" maybe not, i agree

"Wneger is a great manager though, maybe though, just maybe - he should have shown Ashely a lickle bit more respect" cole lost all respect of anybody at arsenal the day he met with chelsea. he shouldve shown the club alot more respect, arsenal have given him the oppotunity to be the player he is and he threw it back in our face.

exactly. I have heard enough about players who are "fans through and through" if you are a through and through fan and you play at the highest level you will not go meet another club behind your clubs back. It is incredibly rude and does not speak well for a true fan of the club.

and to be honest...if you are a true fan and play for one of the biggest clubs (who can still win throphies as Chelsea are not invincible and I would not be surprised if ManU pip them to the title this year..although Ruud is a big loss IMO) you don't leave that club to play for the direct competition. I can understand why someone would want to play in a different league but to leave like this and just go because you want more dosh is disrespectfull to every fan at the club and a true fan wouldn't do it.

I don't even support arsenal but this gets me really wound up.

Change cole to Campbell and @rse to Spurs.

Just face it, it dont matter a jot about what players say, they will always be driven by money and their agents.

There is NO loyalty in football any more, there hasnt been for some time.

I'm sorry Lord Kivchester but you cannae compare that **** Campbell to the Cole saga. Cole signed a new contract last year so that Arse could sell him for a profit or at least had some weight in negotiations. ****ball is a lying piece of shit, not only did he lie to us and lose us £15-£20million but he lied to Arse as well.

Kev, i know what you are trying to say but i think the situations are different. i suppose its what side of the argument you are on. what cole and chelsea did is totally unacceptable. cole was in contract abd chelsea "tapped him up". cole didnt have to go and meet with them, chelsea should not of contacted him.

when campbell came to us, he was out of contract and could go where he likes, we didnt tap him up or approach him whilst still in contract.

As for the no loyality in football comment i have to disagree to a certain degree. campbell gave you 9 years of his career which in football terms is a hell of alot. dennis bergkamp gave us 11, vieria 9 and henry signed when evrybody thought he was off to barca.... me included. on the other hand i do know what you are saying, cole, carrick to name 2

who stayed? I thought most of the people that stayed were on long term contracts on a huge wage that they wouldn't get elsewhere because they were getting on a bit (or a lot)

Buffon, Trezguet, Nedved

With Buffon being on a SICK-MASSIVE contract

They could have all gone. Camronesi is the only f**cker that stayed who wanted to leave but was denied. He will be leaving in January.

Trez said he will stay for this year and help get Juve back into A, then he will move on. Nedved, i don't know his future plans, the same for Buffon.
