I thought after that maybe i could of played it softer and flat called the turn bet and hope to get paid on the river if a blank comes? and the  2s would of been a perfect card for me to get away from the hand

no..if you have the nuts but there are draws out there you don't give your oppo free cards..you made him pay and he choose to do so.

Not always, but here you definately do.

Sometimes you've got the nuts on flop, but are a big dog in the hand and need to fold. More common in 6O than 4O
