Title: Pokerstars EPT Barcelona - Day 1b - Live Update - At A Glance
Post by: Djinn on September 14, 2006, 04:09:14 PM
Welcome back to the Gran Casino Barcelona, where the second flight of players for this packed-to-the-rafters EPT event is about to get underway.

This is the 'lite' thread, so no Q&A, just numbers and stuff.

Passed Willie Tann's table as a showdown was reached between him and a young French player (probably, going on accent alone) - The board was Q x x 9 8 and Willie flipped the Tc Jc for the nuts, while I think he was up against two pair.  I think there was some trapping going on which the youngster escaped, saying, "You're tricky - checking the straight..." to which he got a trademark Tann shrug in return.

Although Luske rose back up to 820 after hitting a straight on an 8-7-4-4-J board (Mateyboy had K-4), it looks as though he may finally be OUT, as he is currently undertaking an interview in the press room.

Luske's exit:

Mateyboy & Luske checked a K-9-9-x-x board down to the River, where Mateyboy bet, Luske raised, MB re-raised and Luske called.

Luske had turned a flush, but MB had flopped Quad Nines.

Henrik Olander, who caught the Updater's attention in Dublin last year, and is undoubtedly one of the strongest young players, just lost a pot of over 14k, leaving him with 6,500 after a promising start.  I actually saw this hand all the way through, which is a miracle as the press seem to multiply daily, and quite a few bold lurkers are crowding the tiny gangways between the tables too.

So - Henrik on the button sees a flop of 5d Ac Tc with the small blind Matey.  Matey checks, Henrik bets 175, and is raised to 300.  Call.
Turn:  3c.  Check; Henrik bets 350, and another min-raise to 700 from sb-Matey.
River:  5s.  Now small blind bets out 2k, about a third of his stack.  Henrik thinks for a minute (probably about the development of the paired board) before pushing all-in.  Small blind Matey calls in a flash with his 8c 5c, and Henrik shows the bare Ahrt before mucking his hand and accepting the loss, without reaction.

Just watched one of those big circles of gawkers surround a table conveniently located right in the middle of the floor as a big ruling is called for from TK himself:

It's the river - the board lies Th 8c 8h 3h Kh and there's a bet and a raise from Gary Jones.  The Spanish guy who made the initial river bet for some reason has exposed his hand:  Ahrt Jh.  Now Gary Jones gets very agitated, talking about his hand being 'over the line' and calling Thomas over for a ruling after two other floor people failed to calm the situation.  Thomas rules (fairly, in my opinion) that the hand-exposer can only call, and will subsequently get a 10 minute penalty.  That isn't accepted very happily by Gary Jones, who insists Kremser's wrong and is obviously not happy about being called and subsequently losing both the pot and the plot, a little.

Thomas says, "the line is not a line for the cards" - it seems unless they touch the muck, they're not strictly dead.  So there you go, potential hand exposers.

David 'dpommo' Pomroy is OUT.

He raises preflop, MB re-raised, dpommo raised again and MB moved all-in.

By this time, dpommo was virtually pot-committed and had to call with his A-8

MB had Q-Q

No Ace arrived

Nick Slade is OUT.

He flopped a set of sevens and bet 1.6k, 1.6k and 2k. Each time the preflop raiser called, finally rivering a runner runner flush with K-Q suited.

Slade then ran a turned flush into a full house.

Went to see what railer Anders Berg was watching, and it appeared to be Henning Granstad:

He'd gotten involved on the small blind against a late position player (either caller or small raiser; couldn't see the pot too well) on a board of:
5c 2c 6s.  Henning bet out 3k (about a third of his stack) and received a call.
The unconnected-looking Kh fell on the turn, and Henning was quickly all in for the rest... a pass saw him show the, er, Td.  Up to 13k now though.

Another controversy, this time preflop - the Spanish Button Matey had limped in, and Mark Teltscher on the small blind had raised.  A fuss was kicking off, and it turned out to be over whether Mark had said, "1,200," or, "Raise 1,200."  He seemed to want to put the full 1,500 in front of him, but the button only wanted to call 1,200...quite a lot of aggro over 300, but in the end the full raise went and there was a swift All-in from Mark on the Ahrt 7c Qc flop which got rid of his opponent anyhow.  The most remarkable thing that happened during this debate was, however, that I swear the gesticulating Matey lost a front tooth, while explaining to the floorman.  He just picked it up and popped it back in.  Extraordinary.

Double Up for Andy Black -

A more cleanshaven Mr. Black was tearing up the cash games last night, and just got involved in a pretty enormous pot which sent his neighbour to the rail.
Andy looked down at Ad Kh, but there was a bit of a kerfuffle with the dealing, and before taking any action he checked to see whether that particular deal was of the Mis type.  No - play was told to continue, and he got into a raising war with the gent on his left, resulting in it all getting all-in.  He wasn't thrilled to see Aspades Ahrt against him.  But one King on the turn and one on the river helped.  Up to 26,000.

He says, "Twenty years playing, and I don't think I've ever done that particular outdraw."  Well, one for the records!

Andreas Hagen, who somewhere along the line had managed to get himself rather precariously short stacked, got all the chips in against a nearly equal stack with 8h 8d.  A middling hand, yes, but not when your opponent has 6d 6s and the flop's Tc 8s 7s...
Turn:  6c  ("A good card for me" says Hagen, and he's right, a nine now splits it and only the final 6 outdraws him)
River:  5h

And he's now up to, at a guess, 12,000.

Simon Young is OUT

With a few limpers and a button raiser, Simon moves all-in from the Bib Blind with Pocket Fours.

The limpers fold, leaving the initial raiser to go into a long dwell, before calling with K-T.

Hit a straight on the River.

Ouch

Andreas Hagen, after being all-in that one time, doesn't look keen on dwindling again - he's just taken down a 10k or so pot with a 5,000 bet on the river, in position, with the board 9c 7d 5d 6h 8d.  A lengthy think from his opponent (whose 20k stack wouldn't have liked a 5k loss) and then a pass.

His sunglasses rank as the least silly and the most reminiscent of the Terminator.

Disaster Hand For Mickey Wernick -

Mickey raised under the gun to 2,500 (blinds now 300/600, ante 75).  The player on his immediate left re-raised another 5,000.  Call from Mickey.
Flop:  8s 7s 4d.  Mickey checks, and the young guy pushes for around 19k - call!
Mickey shows Qd Qc against new big stack's Ks Kh!
Turn and river:  8d 3d  so no help and Mickey is left with just 2,500 after the blinds went through him right afterwards...

Henning Granstad, while never seeming to develop a chunky stack, seems to be stealing a small pot almost every time I pass his table.  Before he was moved to his present location, where he's in the company of Noah Boeken and Andreas Hagen, I saw this slightly odd one:

Henning called a raise from the Under-the-gun Matey in the big blind.
Flop:  3d 7s 4h  Check-check.
Turn:  Th  Check-check again.
River:  7d  Henning bets a little take-a-stab-at-it bet of 1,100.  Call.  He turns over 4c 6c.  It's the winner.  :dontask:

Henning Granstad is out - making a shortstack move there on the cutoff with Td 6c, the lady on the small blind thought her 8d 8c were good, and she was right.  A late exit for Granisimo, while on the table next door, Gus Hansen had also moved all in preflop, on the button, over the top of a raiser... He had 22k to call (around 8k in the pot) and the initial raiser eventually thought better of it and the pot was his.
