Tongues just been pierced, and now its the talking point of my friends.

You've got the girls thinking it looks funky, but seem to think its only a certain kinda gal that would get it done......

And the guys are like OOOOOO, when you going to try it out?

So what kind of image did you want to create?

Most people I know have piercings or tattoos.  I have nothing against them and in some cases I think they can be attractive, such as tattoos on the lower back.  But I have no plans to get either myself.

I had my tongue pierce for 5 years. Took it out a couple of years ago.

The image is made by each persons perception, and the general perception is of.....well, what perception do you have mark?

I've never understood tongue piercings.

Do people really want a lisp that badly, as that's the only thing it seems to create?

Pro-piercers please explain.

TBH I dont particularly like Piercings, Tattoo's however, if done chosen wisely and dont correctly can be awesome..... im going to get one done of My Daughters name 'Emily' down the inside of my left Forearm, not chosen the Font style yet (anything except 'Wingdings' i think)

I think the piercing of Tongues,Nips and Navels is fine.
I don't like the eyebrow stuff. My sister had it done on
her eyebrow years ago, it just looked Low Rent.

To be fair, I don't have that bad a lisp, but thats only because I've still got the big bar in, when the wee bars in, I doubt it would affect it much.

To me it something personal I've wanted done for ages, and its not on show on my face, its inside my mouth, so you can't see it unless I laugh, or yawn.

But I never got in done for show, which I think a lot of people get piercings for.

I mean look at the people who get piercings in their backs and arms and stuff.  Is it for the shock factor?

I got sent home from school for getting my ear pierced!  Them were the days!

I know a guy from School that went through a phase of piercing himself.   There was a singer called Mike Patton who used to sing in a great band called Faith No More.  He had his eyebrow pierced, and it actually looked really cool.  My mate copied Mike patton and came to School one day with a pierced eyebrow.  The idiot did it himself

As I said I didn't do it for show, but the imediate reaction of telling people is "Oh your boyfriend will love that".  I just don't think it's fair to have that assumption.

And it was dairing LOL, I was terrified!

It was personal to me,  just the same reason people get tatoos in concieled places.

I dont see the point in getting Tattoo's that no one can see, the reason im getting mine is cos i think it will look groove in that area and want to express my love for my Daughter. (i would never get a womans name on my body, incase we ever broke up, but my daughter is different)

My Girlfriend Janet has a tiny Butterfly Tattoo just below her belt of her trousers, so really only i can see it (i hope!!!), and yet it does absolutley nothing for me? i dont see the point in it and i have told her this, why get it id no-one's gonna see it?

i got suspended from school 5 times...........

1st for piercing my ears 16 times  (drunken weekend)
2nd for piercing my nose
3rd for piercing my penis (bloody hurt , but teenagers do anything for £5)
4th for getting tattoed
5th for smoking in class (it was lunchtime !)

Its not for the boyfriend, but its something that only those would see, like the birthmarks and things scottishdave said.  but I didn't get it done so I had something only they could see. Its something for me. Therefore I didn't get it done for show, but I'm not gona share it with random folk, its for whom I choose.

Like if someone got their genintils pierced, they aint gona go round with their muff out are they?

Playing poker makes me happy (mostly)

Playing poker also gives me a buzz, it satisfies my competitive nature, it helps me feel rebellious compared to main stream working people, I earn a decent profit from it, my friends think it's cool, my Mum wouldn't like it if she knew, I'm in control of my own lifestlye and so it gives me freedom, I meet lots of lovely people through poker and it's a brilliant way to have a damn good time on my own.

So as well as making you happy.......what else does your piercing do for you?

I have a tattoo of a bar code on my right shoulder, it has my date of birth as the numbers underneath. I have used it as proof of age once !!!!!!!

Piercings on men over 20 look kinda strange imo. Still could be worse tats aint just for christmass people :P

Yep, I have that album. I got it out of a bargain bin in FOPP for £2.50 about 6 months ago.  It is a great album, EDGE OF THE WORLD is a brilliant track from that album as well.  My favorite FNM album is Angel Dust though.

I guess by getting it, it makes me feel in more control of myself.  I've made a conscious desicion to do something that I chose to do, which is individual to me.

And is maybe a statement to whoever I'm with, that I make my own decisions, and have my own mind.  

Like when you play poker, to me that says you are someone who likes to "live on the edge" and arent scarred to take risks.

I have a few belly , nose and ears pierced , coz i like them and a few tatoos some you see some you dont  ;) .
End of the day personal choice , my son has wopping great holes in his ears and my Dad goes right into one , i say to my Dad its my sons choice , you should love him what ever he looks like  ;goodvevil;

Rather than 'not being scared to take risks' I more scared of not taking risks. Nothing scares me more than the thought of waking one day to find out I'm in my 70's and haven't done anything with my life.

Faith no More - that's very cool to know someone from a great band Sark. I will live my life vicariously through you for 3 days I think. I'll say, I kinda know a guy online from a poker site who knows a fine rock star. Kudos to me I think.

Dave, I got my first tattoo top of my arm and only by walking around in a vest would it be seen. Took me about 7 days to go get another one that would peep out, very seductively in my opinion, from under the arm of a T shirt - have a fair few now and it's hard to explain to other people why one likes them so much. Don't think it's to with the kind of people I mix with but never met a lady who didn't like them on me too .. s'abonus. But, point is, I definitely want them to be seen.

I do think it is possible that tigs, you may walk aroound with your mouth open a lot for a few weeks until the novelty wears off. In my experience, and as a student of emotional intelligence, we all tend to want to be noticed for the thing we do for our 'personal' enjoyment - just takes a while to gain that self awareness I think.

The shell collector wants people to know he collects shells and have people form an opinion from the information, the train spotter.... and so on. Not many people who are true islands.

I think thats really good advise for someone my age, because it will always make you do things your a wee bit scarred to do.

It took me ages to get my tongue done, but once I did it, it kind of made me less scarred to do something else.Opening doors as you say!  Bit cheesy I know  

Like I'm planning on moving away to somewhere else,  I've always had reservations about it, but now I'm less likely to think, and more likely to do.

Does that help when your playing poker?  Are you less botherd about putting all your chips in?

When I play live, I never like putting my chips in the middle, because I'm a bit worried about what would happen next

I don't know how old you are tigs, but I would say a piercing is a much better option than a tattoo for a youngster who wants to express their freedom to make decisions.  I got a tattoo when I was 21 for no other reason than I wanted to get one.  Didn't have a clue what design I wanted right until I got into the shop and started leafing through the book.  Nothing really caught my eye, so I just settled on one so as not to miss my appointment time.  I liked it for about 6 months, and sneered in the face of anyone who told me I would regret it when I was older.

Now?  I absolutely hate the thing.  Once I've got enough spare cash, it will come off, but due to some of colours in it it will never go completely.

 :D ,  sorry if my post looked like I knew the guy.   My friend copied Mike Patton from FNM after meeting him at a Festival, I have never met the guy.   He went through a phase of copying everything about Mike Patton, hair, piercings and even tried to sing like him in a band  :D.  I once saw Rolf Harris, unfortunately I was too young to grow a beard like his and my musical talent is limited so the wobble board was a deffinate no no .

I deplore the new age Indian/chinease written tattoos that knowone can understand but makes the person feel unique even though every other person in the world now has one.

Ive got three and had them all done when i was 16 i really wish i didn't have any of them now.

the first one i got is of a mushroom looking dude which is probably a dick on my forearm with a word written underneath.

the second is a bulldog on a england flag on my left shoulder.

the third one came about when me and a load of my mates were in a pub and my pal walked in to show off his new tattoo which was the words:

                                                england

tattooed around his belly button, needless to say two hours later all eight of us had the same tattoo done!! SIGH!!!

That being said i dont think your supposed to like them forever, you're not always going to be the same person in life, and as you grow older these things can remind you of the person that you used to be.

I have two tattos, one sucks, the other one I love.

The one that sucks is on my back. It's there because I was 16 when I had it done and I didnt want my parents to see it. It's on my back so noone, including me sees it very often. It's skulls and a black hole. it's about 8" long and is very metal.

The second one I had done in my late 20s. it's the full length of my upper right arm and is a guitar beoing lapped by flames. It's bright and proudly announces to the world that I define myself as a guitarist. I'm very happy with that.

Tattoos are for show. they are an opportunity to customise and personalise your body. the Guitar is on my right arm because when I'm playing guitar on stage it's the arm facing the audience. When I'm kickboxing more often than not my left arm is nearer my opponent. I plan to have a large Chinese dragon with my Club Motto down the side (translates roughly as "everyone's a teacher but me")

If I could go back I'd never have had the one on my back done because it's the wrong design in the wrong place for the wrong reason.

I don't feel the same way about the guitar tattoo. best £200 I ever spent.

I personally don't 'get' piercing but I think amongst right thinking individuals it doesn't make you any 'kind' of person. it's just you expressing yourself. power to you.

I honestly don't care what people think, and in this day and age why should I. I have my tongue pierced and several tattoo's but if people want to assume things about my personality etc then they can. if their lifes are so dull they have to comment on others, then let them do it.

I'm a bit behind on this one but I just wanted to say that I have my tongue pierced and I absolutely love it. For me, it was a buzz. I have to be very strict with myself when it comes to piercings because I can easily become addicted and end up looking like I'm made entirely of metal. (I do wish to clarify at this time that I have very few peicings and only one tattoo). I cannot describe the feeling I get from having a piercing or a tattoo but it's definitely an acquired taste. I've been thinking of having two new piercings but I'm not sure that my poker-fantastic boyfriend entirely agrees with the idea, which I thoroughly respect. The tongue thing is mainly just for me but I'm pretty sure it's appreciated by someone else  ;). However, I would never get a piercing or a tattoo just for someone else's benefit. That would be a little silly. Everyone is their own person and have the right to do as they wish to their own bodies whether or not they have a reason which can be understood by others.

I'm not very good at explaining myself at all but I felt like a natter and now that I've made no sense I am satisfied and can continue my day in the bubble of mess that is Bear world.

A really good friend of mine has her tongue pierced and she loves it, although it has pushed her teeth out of place and has had to have veneers put over her teeth

I've no real opinion on tattoos or piercings,  if you want it done, do it! 

Tattoos you need to take time thinking about what pattern you want on.  I've got one very tiny tattoo about an inch big of a yorkshire rose, which I had done when I was 18 and still love it now, I guess I also like it because its unseen and personal to me but you have to live with it the rest of your life so choose very wisely ;)

I have had both my upper and lower lips pierced. The upper one by my front teeth when I climbed on some railings and jumped off, not realising that one of the spikes had gone up the leg of my flares.

The lower one when I tried to climb a very high wall with barbed wire on top. I took a run, leaped up and grabbed the top, and was just pulling myself over when my foot slipped. The barbed wire caught my bottom lip and for a while, until my lip ripped, it supported all my weight.

I thought I had gone blind, but realised that, amazingly, your bottom lip can be stretched far enough to cover your eyes.

i was in a local pub 5 weeks ago 8 girls at the bar all leaning foward, all had random tribal type tattoo above the trades mans. Now the lower back to me on a woman is one of the sexyist areas ever, so in my eyes they had defaced it, Kinda like sticking Garfield sticker kit on an Aston Martin.

Now i'm not anti tattoo, its just i like them to have some meaning and be original, rather than picked off a board like a Kebab and chips. I have one in mind for myself but i am not 100% so it isn't happening

As for the Tongue piercing, save up for the dentist bills if you keep it, you'll need you teeth doing when it takes the enamel off the backs.

I have trouble with the piercing thing tbh. I think it says look at me!!! I do that by wearing brightly coloured poker tops...........not permanent....no pain..........no risk........and the same level of abuse

I have 6 piercings; Nose, tongue, lip, nipple and my ears which have both been stretched, one to 12mm and the other to 8mm. I find thats piecrings are kind of an expression and i quite like thrill of it aswell. I also have a tattoo on the front of my forearm, getting more done in a couple fo weeks.
