Title: Re: once around the block Post by: Wardonkey on September 18, 2006, 09:18:48 PM Sorry Richard that seems a bit mean.
I just didn't enjoy this piece as much as I do your other stuff. I don't think your analogy works very well and I can't see any purpose to the article. Title: Re: once around the block Post by: totalise on September 18, 2006, 09:22:47 PM I don't think it's up to Tighty's usual standard TBH. pretty much how I felt as well... seems a long winded way of saying almost nothing at all. edit: thats more of a tribute to your previous articles rather then a condemnation of this one Title: Re: once around the block Post by: TightEnd on September 18, 2006, 09:24:39 PM Sorry Richard that seems a bit mean. Title: Re: once around the block Post by: Heid on September 18, 2006, 09:28:22 PM It's his blog, if it serves him well to write it down that's his own choice.
Stream of conciousness kinda thing. That's kinda the whole point of a blog, I thought. Title: Re: once around the block Post by: totalise on September 18, 2006, 09:31:03 PM I dont think anyone is saying it isn't his right to post what he wishes.. but if a link to it is made in an open forum, I expect that link is there , in part, for people to discuss the article, and through discussion people speak honestly about their opinions regarding the article.
Title: Re: once around the block Post by: mikkyT on September 18, 2006, 09:35:24 PM Tightend, you give me reason to go on! "Poker block" - thats a classic. I'm suffering from poker block right now. Thankfully its only been in the course of the last few days and 150 STTs and not three months worth, but still... Your words did bring a little comfort, and I might just try venturing out to play live - haven't been out since the blonde bash.
Title: Re: once around the block Post by: mikkyT on September 18, 2006, 09:37:03 PM Well I liked his article. And I'm sure if just one person gets some enjoyment or comfort or takes at least something from the article, then its job done. IMO.
Title: Re: once around the block Post by: Heid on September 18, 2006, 09:42:20 PM "You say it best, when you say nothing at all..."
I just think it's interesting that it was described as an article, and treated as one, when it's in fact someone's life commentary (in a blog's purest form, this is what it is). If it was a front page "article", then comment in that manner - but not their thoughts... Interesting how the perception of blog is now rather enmeshed with an article or similar written piece. Fascinating in fact the way formal and informal (such as blogs) pieces of writing are now melded together. Possibly a fault of the site in presenting them as such, but probably rather endemic all over the net. Title: Re: once around the block Post by: thetank on September 18, 2006, 09:43:31 PM I like how the forum isn't full of sychophants.
Honest feedback can be recieved, rather than just folk posting it was a great read etc. It did have the feel of a bad wedding toast to it to begin with. "The Oxford dictionary defines marriage as......" I did however, enjoy the anaology. No-one told me there has to be a point to these articles, they're not all strategy pieces. I think a bit of musing is fine. Title: Re: once around the block Post by: totalise on September 18, 2006, 09:46:20 PM "You say it best, when you say nothing at all..." An honest mistake that some people might make. Title: Re: once around the block Post by: TightEnd on September 18, 2006, 09:49:32 PM er, please don't argue over not so little ole me!
if you enjoyed it great, if not no problem blog or article (and its a regular blog, with entries collated as such), i enjoy doing them...so you are stuck with em as long as the powers that be accept them Title: Re: once around the block Post by: Heid on September 18, 2006, 09:52:00 PM I LOVE how you like the way the forum isn't full of sycophants Tank, and well, yes I love that avatar of yours, teh way your posts make so much sense, and well, just you really :::beams:::::
Did you know you were a wonderful person? :::::::turns off irony:::::::: Title: Re: once around the block Post by: totalise on September 18, 2006, 09:54:09 PM Quote No-one told me there has to be a point to these articles, they're not all strategy pieces. it doesn't have to be a strategy piece to have a point, and my own personal opinion, which I think is ok to post , and which others wont agree with, is that if it doesn't really have a point, then its not much of an article/blog post/whatever the correct definition is. Nothing more, nothing less. Just an opinion. Quote blog or article (and its a regular blog, with entries collated as such), i enjoy doing them...so you are stuck with em as long as the powers that be accept them I have thoroughly enjoyed all your previous ones, they have been really well written and informative/educational and worthy of multiple re-reads. I hope to have that pleasure with the future ones as well Title: Re: once around the block Post by: Claw75 on September 18, 2006, 09:54:16 PM Did you know you were a wonderful person? :::::::turns off irony:::::::: ouch! Title: Re: once around the block Post by: thetank on September 18, 2006, 09:58:51 PM You try using a big word, and Heid just takes the piss. ::)

Title: Re: once around the block Post by: TightEnd on September 18, 2006, 10:01:23 PM These women are incorrigible
Title: Re: once around the block Post by: Heid on September 18, 2006, 10:04:43 PM Don't you start!
Title: Re: once around the block Post by: totalise on September 18, 2006, 10:07:09 PM incidentally, I never knew what sycophant meant (had a vague idea) , so went to look it up and got the following:
According to ancient authorities, the word (derived by them from συκο suko, "fig", and φανης fanēs, "to show") meant one who informed against another for exporting figs (which was forbidden by law) or for stealing the fruit of the sacred fig-trees you learn something new every day Title: Re: once around the block Post by: Nem on September 18, 2006, 10:12:23 PM Title: Re: once around the block Post by: thetank on September 18, 2006, 10:20:03 PM Although in our language, a sycophant is someone who continually compliments those in positions of power in order to curry favour.
Title: Re: once around the block Post by: TightEnd on September 18, 2006, 10:21:03 PM exactly, ifm for example
Title: Re: once around the block Post by: MrMoves on September 18, 2006, 10:22:06 PM I think the article is excellent.
Title: Re: once around the block Post by: thetank on September 18, 2006, 10:24:44 PM See, now we don't even know if MrMoves is being serious or ironic.
The harm you've caused Heid ::) Title: Re: once around the block Post by: Royal Flush on September 18, 2006, 10:26:43 PM I like how the forum isn't full of sychophants. Which blondepoker do you read?!?! Title: Re: once around the block Post by: MrMoves on September 18, 2006, 10:27:54 PM For once, I'm not taking the piss.
I'm a reformed character. ;angelic; Title: Re: once around the block Post by: snoopy1239 on September 18, 2006, 10:27:58 PM I don't why this can't be described as an article. To me, it's a write-up on a specific topic in poker. I have placed it in our 'tips and advice' section because I feel it offers advice on an in issue that we have all enocuntered at one point or another.
Personally and truthly, I enjoyed it, if only for the excellent way in which Tighty writes. True, the analogy could be deemed as somewhat of a stretch by some, but, for me, that doesn't detract from the fact that it was a very enjoyable read. Title: Re: once around the block Post by: snoopy1239 on September 18, 2006, 10:31:32 PM I like how the forum isn't full of sychophants. Which blondepoker do you read?!?! What, there's more than 1?! Let's sue!!! I'd much rather read something controversial than something everyone will just accept in a uniform manner, thereby leading to a tedious flattery thread. Well done Tighty, you achieved this, you are great! Isn't he great, everyone? Title: Re: once around the block Post by: Heid on September 18, 2006, 10:33:56 PM tikka :)
