Title: whats your play?? Post by: Hairydude on September 22, 2006, 10:55:23 AM Right tuesday tournament at Cincinattis, down to the last 8 of 51 player £25 tourney (6 get paid) and looking to make it my 3rd tuesday win on the trot but i'm short stack at the table-
I am on BB and blinds are 1k/2k and after posting BB I have 13.5k left (average is 31k altho there is a huge chip leader so true average minus the CL is probably more like 25k) , The table is quite weak, everyone folds to seat 4 who is a weak & poor player and the other short stack-has me covered by only 1k- he calls, then seat 5(approx 27k) who is also a weak player calls, seat 6(approx 30k) who is decent and would raise with a decent holding here, also calls, SB calls(approx 25k) for extra 1k seein as good pot odds- he could have any 2 cards here, I look down to see Ac 8c, I am pretty sure I am ahead all of the callers on the table here and know that anyone with premium hands here would have pushed it!! There is 10k in the pot and I have 13.5k left and just about to post the sb next hand too-what should be my move-check or push-if so how much?? Title: Re: whats your play?? Post by: Newmanseye on September 22, 2006, 10:59:34 AM with that many people in you may get a call if you push, and you do not want a call with Ac 8c.
You are only in for 1K with a marginal hand, why not check and see what happens, its the safe option and the players at the final table sound like piss poor players, so chances are you can catch a better spot to double up. Title: Re: whats your play?? Post by: boldie on September 22, 2006, 01:26:12 PM newsmanseye is probably right...however I would push. I love A8 sooted.
If you think you are ahead of the lot of them pre flop you don't want to give them a chabnce on the flop IMO. you'd also pick up a nice few k. Title: Re: whats your play?? Post by: tantrum on September 22, 2006, 01:34:44 PM The all in move form BB is a tactical move and very effective against the weak passive players.
The move can be executed with any two really. The only worry is if you say that they are weak passive do they tend to limp with big hands? the likehood of them folding is quite big, and the fact that you are in the BB might suggest that you are the one who has a big hand. i would restrain myself from pushing if anyone for E.P limped and if I knew that one of the other limpers is a total fish that calls any raise once in the pot. Title: Re: whats your play?? Post by: Royal Flush on September 22, 2006, 02:03:00 PM this is an easy push with any 2 for me. You actually have half a hand so its even easier.
LIMPERS TAX! Title: Re: whats your play?? Post by: SupaMonkey on September 22, 2006, 05:12:34 PM ;all-in; blind
Seriously, the first bloke is the one you have to worry about and he is likely to fold anyway. The others are likely to be pratting around with suited connectors etc. and if they had anything they would be raising. The only thing that may happen is that some people will miss play big pairs and limp after the initial limper to try and take down a massive pot postflop, so occassionally you will run into one of these. Post by: cambo on September 22, 2006, 07:18:50 PM i push here no doubt about it, ill tell you what happened-stuart pushed 1 numpty called off his whole stack with king 10 and rivered a king. right move just very unlucky

Absolute PUSH PUSH PUSH!!!! The pot is yours for the taking!!! Title: Re: whats your play?? Post by: Hairydude on September 22, 2006, 07:47:12 PM Well cambo u've ruined the suspense :D, yeah he's right- The guy took about 1 minute then decided- right I call-leaving him with 1k left and the rest of the table obviously folded- he turned over Kd Tc but when I seen it I didnt feel that good-just had that feeling in the pit of my stomach- knew I was a 60/40 favourite but he rivered a king and I was out- at the time I was livid as I was thinking about all the possible hands- what could he seriously think he was ahead of?? only a complete blluff-which is not unreasonable cuz it maybe looked like a steal as I had done the exact same move before on my last BB-that time was with a premium hand AQsuited-
my greivance was compounded when he went on to finish 2nd- with my chips :'( but after I calmed down I started to think maybe its just one of these things that play themselves out and maybe his call wasn't as bad as 1st thought- I personally wouldnt have made the call but I know this guy is quite a poor player and probably willing to gamble- plus he was getting just under 2-1 his money so the pot odds probably point to calling- but in tournaments pot odds shouldnt always come into it if your tournament life is on the line or should they??? but TBH I dont even think he was thinking of pot odds or anything like that I think he just wanted to gamble and got lucky I thought about putting in a raise of about 8k to leave me with just 5k as against a strong player this would look like I have a very strong hand and want a call- but I just felt this player(and the others) were that poor they would have probably thought I was saving these chips in case I didnt hit or something so the all in seemed a stronger move Title: Re: whats your play?? Post by: tantrum on September 22, 2006, 11:01:16 PM Quote I thought about putting in a raise of about 8k to leave me with just 5k as against a strong player this would look like I have a very strong hand and want a call- but I just felt this player(and the others) were that poor they would have probably thought I was saving these chips in case I didnt hit or something so the all in seemed a stronger move Nah the KT guy would call you anyway.... he had a hand Kx it is good enough to call rotflmfao rotflmfao.... Pushing all in from BB works if the players you are against are pretty ok. Even the if you are stealing, IMO KTo is not a good hand to risk 90% of my stack to make a stand. So unlucky IMO |
