Title: Re: Too Aggressive?? Post by: GlasgowBandit on September 24, 2006, 12:11:54 PM I agree with you and its a situation I hate being in when I have an overpair to the board your really hopping for a race at worse in this situation against AK or AQ something like that.
UL though sometimes you just need to fire your chips in if your going to win the tourney rather than lingering about lower payout levels. Title: Re: Too Aggressive?? Post by: M3boy on September 24, 2006, 12:31:10 PM Well that hand didnt put me out, I still had 40,000 odd. But with Blinds 2000 4000 was a litle short.
I find AJ on the button and move in. The SB eventually calls with AQ - which held up. I have been replaying that 77 hand and cannot see how I could of played it differently without the same result. Can anyone else? Title: Re: Too Aggressive?? Post by: NoflopsHomer on September 24, 2006, 12:36:09 PM Well that hand didnt put me out, I still had 40,000 odd. No, but it is an UTG raise from a shorty with a flat-call from a big stack, so passing preflop isn't a bad option, it's quite possible one of them has a bigger pair than you. Once the flop comes, you don't get away. Title: Re: Too Aggressive?? Post by: M3boy on September 24, 2006, 12:43:08 PM You cannot pass from the BB for a standard raise when holding 77 - with so much money in the pot, that seems a very negative play to me.
The only way I see of getting away here is to check the flop - the shorty then moves all in (which he would do with 2 overs) The big stack passes - then you pass as well??? I dont think so. Just one of those hands I was loosing chips on - Unless anyone else has other ideas? I was still pleased with the result, large field and tough competition- on the bubble (being 54) I only had 8 big blinds !!! (8000 chips) Title: Re: Too Aggressive?? Post by: boldie on September 24, 2006, 01:01:13 PM i agree...this is just one of those hands I guess. nothing else you could do here IMO.
Title: Re: Too Aggressive?? Post by: Royal Flush on September 24, 2006, 04:03:48 PM Nothing you could do Paul, perfect call pre flop. Just a sick flop, "no set no bet" is ok in deep stacked comps but i dont see how you can do it here. I bet more on the flop though. There is 28k out there bet 20k make it harder for AK to go in.
Title: Re: Too Aggressive?? Post by: M3boy on September 24, 2006, 04:16:57 PM To be honest James, thats what I had the "shorty" on. AK
Thats why I priced him in - and also if the Big Stack moved all in on the flop, I can get away. I am working very hard on my tournament game just lately, trying to move to the "next level" of playing the streets later in tourneys by calling peoples standard raises and looking for weekness - hard to do but something I have to work on. Here is an example of what I mean : FullTiltPoker Game #1031773567: $50,000 Guarantee (6388147), Table 5 - 800/1600 Ante 200 - No Limit Hold'em - 21:46:06 ET - 2006/09/23 Seat 1: buyrum (36,179) Seat 2: ME (25,011) Seat 3: brentblack83 (26,172) Seat 4: no mercie (38,692) Seat 5: BAZMAN1 (50,229) Seat 6: JorJen (33,457) Seat 7: gopsiliev (50,021) Seat 8: stickelistack (53,087) Seat 9: beland66 (44,848) buyrum antes 200 ME antes 200 brentblack83 antes 200 no mercie antes 200 BAZMAN1 antes 200 JorJen antes 200 gopsiliev antes 200 stickelistack antes 200 beland66 antes 200 buyrum posts the small blind of 800 ME posts the big blind of 1,600 The button is in seat #9 *** HOLE CARDS *** Dealt to ME [8c 7h] brentblack83 folds no mercie folds BAZMAN1 folds JorJen folds gopsiliev folds stickelistack raises to 3,500 beland66 folds buyrum folds ME has 15 seconds left to act ME calls 1,900 *** FLOP *** [5s Qc 6d] ME checks stickelistack bets 4,600 ME calls 4,600 *** TURN *** [5s Qc 6d] [2c] ME bets 6,400 stickelistack has 15 seconds left to act stickelistack folds Uncalled bet of 6,400 returned to ME ME mucks ME wins the pot (18,800) *** SUMMARY *** Total pot 18,800 | Rake 0 Board: [5s Qc 6d 2c] Seat 1: buyrum (small blind) folded before the Flop Seat 2: ME (big blind) collected (18,800), mucked Seat 3: brentblack83 folded before the Flop Seat 4: no mercie folded before the Flop Seat 5: BAZMAN1 folded before the Flop Seat 6: JorJen folded before the Flop Seat 7: gopsiliev folded before the Flop Seat 8: stickelistack folded on the Turn Seat 9: beland66 (button) folded before the Flop He had been raising alot, and I didnt take him for a Queen on the flop, so bet out on the turn to take the pot. Title: Re: Too Aggressive?? Post by: Royal Flush on September 24, 2006, 07:39:16 PM Yeah i think i probably check raise the flop, if i get in the hand too deep i want to get 2 cards to hit! lol.
Title: Re: Too Aggressive?? Post by: SupaMonkey on September 25, 2006, 12:42:57 AM I woulda moved in preflop in your first one. You have the perfect squeeze play. The shortie would probably still call the all in in this case but i think there was nothing you could have done postflop.
