Title: *Pix*
Post by: Poppet7 on September 29, 2006, 01:23:49 AM
I'm bored so I thought I'd make a thread to put photographs in of anything we want (within reason obviously!!). You can post pictures of you, your family, etc Some funny ones would be good!

I like looking at photos so lets see what you've got...

I'm on my mums computer so limited photo's, but I'll start...

Me and my friend Terri, aged 13

Cock and hen Goldfinches on my lawn.

When I was young I used to catch goldfinches using homemade mist nets or bird lime.

Bird lime is a sticky substance and its real use was to spread on newspaper to catch mice and rats by getting them so clogged up that they couldn't move. If you tried to catch a bird like that, you would kill it, so I would spread the lime onto a bristle pulled from a yard-brush, and then place it where the bird's wing would touch it when it took off.

The object of the exorcise was not to stick the bird to the bristle, but the bristle to the bird. It was just enough to prevent it from flying.

I always caught birds in the middle of winter, when they were desperate for food. They became tame so quickly then, after a couple of weeks, you could release them, and they wouldn't fly away. They would sit on the top of the aviary until you let them back in.

British finches are protected now, you are not allowed to take them from the wild, (and rightly so)

This is a picture from about 3 years ago. My then wife and I went to a breeder of Bernese Mountain Dogs, to buy a dog for the family. The bitch had six weeks ago given birth to these nine and we had the impossible job of choosing one. We chose "Cookie", at the front as she was the one who walked towards us and plonked herself down!.....I'll spare you the pedigree name!!....and now she is a much loved family pet for my ex and the kids....I miss her a lot (the dog, not the ex)

Very loyal gentle family dogs, sadly they only live about seven years and generally are not the hardiest breed.

I dropped my laptop m8 and it acted wierd for a few days kept shutting down to save itself from further damage (bit stupid really as it nearly led to a fall from a very great hight)

I had the HD replaced and they gave me the old 1 and said i might be able to salvage some of the data but i have no idea how!

Flushy you can get a 2.5" to 3.5" converter and plug a laptop hardrive into a desktop pc as a second hard drive.

Well, we were talking about names and because he was black with a brownish tint we thought he looked like cola, but instead of the common "Pepsi" we thought we'd be different and call him Cokey instead... soon after we got all the sniff sniff jokes!

A few years back Celtic Played Host to Barcelona in the Champions league, the season after Henke larsson left Celtic for The camp Nou

This was taken the night before the game, when Barca were allowed into Celtic Park for a training session

So myself and my Good mate, along with 200 other Celtic fans, went along to welcome back Larsson and the other barca players. Little did we know the gates were open for anyone who wanted to go in and watch the training session:

So here we are - incidently, my good mate franko here is none other that Blondite Teacake's Little brother: (and no he wasnt on drugs this night)

V. Cute!
It is indeed, very interesting (seriously!)

Don't tempt me, I'm just bursting for an excuse to do a blog piece about it. You have to study the bird's behavior very carefully. It really fascinates me, and I want to talk about it, but, like tikay with his trains, ::) I restrain myself. (unless someone shows the slightest glimmer of interest)

PS- I'm passionate about wildlife, so that's about as subtle a hint as I can manage!

Your right Red-dog.

Poppy is indeed a Border Terrier, A quality breed if ever there was one. Tough as old boots with tons of character.

The other night my son was running across the lounge so I shouted 'attack' for a laugh.
She promptly turned round, raced across the room, jumped onto the sofa and proceeded to try and attack me (Playfully of course).  :D

Yes, A fantastic breed. Borders are leggy, agile terriers with a special double coat, the outer/guard coat is coarse tough hair which repels dirt and moisture, the inner coat is soft and warm.

They were used in the border counties for hunting, among other things, mink and otter. They are excellent swimmers and have a perfectly round tail which they use as a rudder.

They are brave and intelligent and although they make excellent guards, they are not as prone to yapping as some other terriers.

A border terrier could cover 60/70 miles in a day and think nothing of it, but are just as content to lie beside the fire.

They come in various colours, red, blue, grizzle, and wheaten, with a beautiful black mask (eyes nose and ear tips)

Great choice of dog!!

Thats what they call certain colours for that particlar breed. It doesn't mean that they are that colour in the strict sense of the word.

A Labrador might be every shade from white to gold or red, but it is still called a yellow.

Labradors also come in black and chocolate.

Thats what they call certain colours for that particlar breed. It doesn't mean that they are that colour in the strict sense of the word.

A Labrador might be every shade from white to gold or red, but it is still called a yellow.

Labradors also come in black and chocolate.

Aaaahhhhh i see,  Thought it was a little strange :D
