Hi im not sure if this is right section for this post ,but here goes. Does anyone know of any links on the web that tell you he basics of dealing.Think this would be useful for new players. As ive even known fear of this to put some off playingg live.Otherwise what is the best way of learning this art. cheers Steve

This may show you how to handle the cards, but I wouldn't advise using the actual content  :D 

ALWAYS shimmy first. spread them out face down and mix them well. make sure all the cards are moving and not just a few. This is your main shuffle.

gather the cards as you shimmy until they are in a very rough pile. now grab the top half a dozen or so and push them under the bottom to help lift the pack. doing this is better than picking the pack up with your nails because after a few dozen deals you'll get really sore under your finger nails.   

With the faces to you gently rock the cards into a level deck and place them face down. it's your aim not to expose the bottom card again from here on. cut the pack keeping the faces close to the table. lift the short short side or corner from each half of the pack and move them together and slowly release them. when the two packs are interlocked gently push them together rather than picki9ng them up and doing that arching thing people do. remember you are trying noy to expose any card at all.

you need to have a set routine which you do EVERY time. that way you never get accused of taking longer or shorter as blinds are about to go up. My routine is
shimmy
3 x riffle
then I lift the whole deck slightly from above, taking care not to show the bottom card and do a four way cut. I pull the top 1/4 of and put it on the table, then the next 1/4 and put it on top, then 3rd 1/4 then the rest.
1 more riffle.
then you pass the cutcard to the button and have them cut the pack onto it. cutting the cards should be done one handed and always onto the cut card. I deal by pitching the cards rather than the European sliding style so the cutcard it particularly important.

some other bits and pieces.
collect the blinds before you deal any cards.

don't rush the deal. get them there right rather than fast. you can easily get 30 hands an hour out without rushing the deal.

when you've finished dealing the cards put the cards down and cap them with on, some or all of the blind chips. try and point or direct an open hand to the person who's action it is. say enough to keep the action going but not a running comentary. don't let people throw into the pot. you can put chip into the pot once you've checked them.

gather mucked cards up immediately and keep the muck pile well away from any live cards.

before you deal the flop or any subsequent board cards rap the table with your hand. this announces to the table you are about to deal so if you have accidentally overlooked some one they can stop you in time. deal the burn card near the flop, rather than in the muck. when you've dealt the flop put the deck down and cap it with a chip again. guide the action with your hand again. rap te table and deal on.

at showdown dont rush to collect cards in. make sure everyone in the pot understands who won with what.

be careful of players in seat 1 and 10 either side of you. make absolutely sure before you take their cards. if you have players saying pass but not moving their cards, insist they pass their cards to you. better than a row over accidentaly mucked cards.

If you're dealing and playing keep your chips and caard WELL away from the pot and muck cards.

If a players action is unclear, clafiry it.

best advise I can give is if you play in a regular home game haev it so that the first person out deals until the next guy is out and so on. that way people regularly get long sessions of practice. If you're particularly wanting to get some practice in, perhaps before playing a self deal comp, just volunteer to deal the whole home game for a few months for the practice which, as Mikky said, is the key.

(or at least what I taught all dealers that worked for me)

1) table wash
2) collect all cards and square (with the faces showing to the table to assure that they can see ur not "dodgy" shuffling)
3) cut deck into halves
4) riffle shuffle the halves
5) cut deck into halves
6) riffle shuffles the halves
7) box shuffle (strip the deck fom the top to bottom or bottom to top in sements of approximately 8-10 cards restacking as you go )
8 ) cut deck into halves
9) riffle shuffle the havles
10) place the cut card in front of you
11) Cut the deck depositing the cut portion ONTO the cut card
12) Stack the remaining deck stub onto the cut portion
13) Lift deck securing cut card under the deck

short version is
table shuffle
2 riffle shuffles
1 box shuffle
1 riffle shuffle
cut

Brilliant posts AdamM and MadYank - really good descriptions.  Don't think I shall ever manage it properly as I have problems with RSI but these are brilliant posts to help those wanting to learn to shuffle and deal correctly. Cheers, guys. :)up

i find in self deal tournaments it is often better just to get the short stack to do the dealing....
