Unless he has the Queen he can not call a bet here. there's about 50$ in the pot...I'd stick something close to that in there.

Very much dependent on your assessment of the player, this one.

If he's a calling station then chances are you're throwing more money away.  If he's a player who might fold to a big bet then its potentially worthwhile.

You've said nothing about the opponent and that's the most relevant factor for me here.

My guess is the turn and river gave him 2 pair and a bluff is just a waste of money, check and save your stack.

It's a small bet...Snoops was probably just trying to get a caller so that when he hits his nut flush he'll have build the pot already.

Nah course he can. What is just as important as what we put the villain on is what we think he puts us on. From our betting its not unreasonable to think he puts us on exactly what we have in which case he can call with his top pair/2 pair quite confidently. The only conceivable hand in which we would have a queen is QT, although top pair on the flop would likely bet bigger to price out the draws available so this is not that believable either.

If you are going to bluff you also need to think about the size of the bet.

If you were chasing the straight, and hit on the river, how much would you bet?  Probably a value bet that you hope the other player will call.  You might consider then making the bluff to be the same size as your value bet.

Sometimes (depending on the player), a smaller bet will get them to take you more seriously than a larger one.  It depends how attentive they are, and also how clever they think they are.

In that example I would have probably bet more on the flop, rather than waiting for the turn.

I also think that in this case, the fact he called the bet on the turn means he will call on the river.  But not knowing the player it's difficult to be certain about any of it.

I bet around the pot (50 squid I think) and he called with Pocket Kings.

I knew he didn't have the straight, but was wondering if it was still worth betting. Will the average player still call? Guess I was bluffing the wrong guy in this case. Kings? Work that one out...
