Title: Newcastle's UEFA group.
Post by: NoflopsHomer on October 03, 2006, 03:28:43 PM
Newcastle
Celta Vigo (h)
Palermo (a)
Fenerbahce (h)
Eintracht Frankfurt (a)

Doesn't really get much tougher?

That's a nasty group considering the teams involved. Good luck!

Aweful group... we would have been better off not being ranked in the top 8 sides!

Two home wins and we will be alright... but with our form so far this year there may not be much point in progressing past the group stage.

Seville to retain the trophy for me.

That is a shocker of a draw for the Toon, especially when you see some of the other groups.

Good thing is top 3 go through so you would think they'll manage to qualify.

Its too early to predict a winner of this comp though as 8 teams will drop out of the Champions League into this.

Teams from the champions league never do well after dropping into this.

Dave, did Porto drop out of the CL? We didn't make the CL proper - it was the QR we went out in.

That is very true, I've never understood why its the case though, possibly deflation from elimanation from the Champions League & then under estimating the teams still in the UEFA Cup perhaps?

We still came from the CL!

does the Final not count as doing well?

so this statement is incorrect, teams from CL do infact do well in UEFA

How did you come from the CL if you went out in the Qualifying round?

Is that like getting knocked out of the WSOP when you lose in a $10 sat?

totally different, the Qual. rounds are still classed as the Champoins league, Thats why the tie is called Team X v Team Y - Champions league Qualifier game 1

you really must stop this childish behaviour!

LOL

This thread has given me a early morning giggle. Dave, by pure definition you are wrong:

To qualify = To reach the later stages of a selection process or contest by competing successfully in earlier rounds.

So Scotland played in the world cup then?

Being in the QUALIFIER does not make you in the WSOP, CL, or World Cup! they are playing for the chance to get INTO the event, not the event itself.

I think you deep down know this but your usual stubbornness is stopping you admitting as such. Learn to back down and suck it up mate lol. Nobody likes doing it, but you come across as childish if you cannot see when you are wrong and hold your hands up.

Hmmmm, Then again maybe this is all a wind up on your part, I can't really believe you honestly think your statements are true. Well done if that's the case.  :D

Why do they call it the World Cup finals then?

I'm on Dave's side here.

Cannae really compare the World Cup and the WSOP. Ones a complete crapshoot, and the others a card game.
