Title: my mission for the month Post by: Claw75 on October 05, 2006, 08:03:22 PM is to stop messing around and play properly to make a profit :)
I was playing at the Vic last night and noticed that they have a £50+5 ladies only freezout on 21st October which I fancy a punt at. At the moment I have $70 in my blonde account. I'm going to steer clear of the MTTs (apart from the league games) and stick to the good old $5 extendeds for a bit. If I can get my balance up to $200 within a week or two, I'm withdrawing $100 and entering this thing! Title: Re: my mission for the month Post by: Jim-D on October 05, 2006, 08:04:31 PM Good luck Claire :)up

Title: Re: my mission for the month Post by: Claw75 on October 09, 2006, 12:32:40 AM that's it. busto. I guess I've saved myself in the long run. If I can't win at $3 and $5 tables online there's not much hope for me in a £50 live comp.
Title: Re: my mission for the month Post by: thetank on October 09, 2006, 05:28:45 AM Not always true, yer talking about different kettles of fish.
I know some boys who kick ass in live MTTs and can't play online STTs for bubble gum. (and vice versa, but that category includes me, so I'll be quiet) Title: Re: my mission for the month Post by: Poppet7 on October 09, 2006, 05:35:59 AM Not always true, yer talking about different kettles of fish. I know some boys who kick ass in live MTTs and can't play online STTs for bubble gum. (and vice versa, but that category includes me, so I'll be quiet) ;iagree; I am absolutely crap when it comes to live MTTs and much better at online STTs. Try the live comp, you might just suprise youself... good luck x Title: Re: my mission for the month Post by: Claw75 on October 09, 2006, 08:57:13 AM I'm just completely fed up of the whole thing now to be honest. I think I am at where Suzanne was at a little while ago. I'm just going to stick to league games and freerolls for a bit.
Title: Re: my mission for the month Post by: Graham C on October 09, 2006, 10:03:53 AM Hang in there Claw. Don't be too put off my this bad run, everyone suffers from them but it does make you feel like it's just you when it's happening to you.
You'll get it back. You can't compare a $3 stt to a £50 mtt either, it could be just what you need to get back in the zone again. Good luck and hope to see you back playing soon :) Title: Re: my mission for the month Post by: Claw75 on October 09, 2006, 11:57:06 AM thanks Graham. I know what you are saying makes sense - if I had been the other side of every bubble I've gone out on in the past couple of days I know it would be a completely different story. I think by posting on here with my intentions I've given myself too much to live up to and now feel like a failure who is completely rubbish at poker :(
funnily enough, I've got the week off work this week to work on some self-esteem issues (but I won't bore you all with the details), and I think a lot of it is having crossover into various areas of my life, including the old online poker. I'll shut up now before I get too heavy :) on a postive note, I've seen a couple of freerolls this afternoon which I'm going to play, along with the bounty comp tonight, with the sole intention of enjoying them - no pressure to cash, and if I do it's a bonus. Title: Re: my mission for the month Post by: ifm on October 09, 2006, 12:06:50 PM I decided at the beginning of the month to just play freerolls on blonde (maybe the odd league game if i can), i have all these points so i may as well use them.
I'm not running too well of late and this way i can't see my bankroll dwindle, it can only go up! Title: Re: my mission for the month Post by: Poppet7 on October 09, 2006, 03:04:23 PM Maybe this freeroll will be good for you. A few weeks ago I didn't have any money and I was playing poorly then I transferred £5 into my account and played a $10 MTT, won that and then played a $20 MTT and came 2nd... I was playing well that day..and lucky..but now I have a reasonable bankroll to play with and it's all from that £5 deposit, so it might all change for you Claire, and I hope it does.
Good luck xxx Title: Re: my mission for the month Post by: Bongo on October 09, 2006, 03:07:18 PM If you're not enjoying it then take a break, I always find I enjoy it way more when I start playing again.
Title: Re: my mission for the month Post by: Claw75 on October 09, 2006, 03:12:25 PM well...i've been a bit naughty and stuck $30 into my account to play the bounty comp tonight, and am now into a $10 MTT. Don't want to jinx myself, but I'm sitting quite nicely in 4th atm.
edit - boo, out in 26th with TT vs KK Title: Re: my mission for the month Post by: kvnstv on October 09, 2006, 03:24:06 PM Good luck I hope it swings round for you. Taking a break and moving down levels as previously mentioned are all good advice. I found that I used to go broke quite a bit of the time, mostly due to the size of my bank roll and the swings of no limit. One day I started playing hi-lo stud, a game I had toyed with but not really got too intrested in. I got talking to some guy at my table and he emailed me a copy of a book he was working on for stud Hi-Lo. I read it and I have never made a deposit since. The split pot limit games really even out variance and I cant remember having three consecutive losing sessions, it helps pay for my MTT NL play which is very swingy. PM me if you want a copy of the book I'm sure he wont mind. Good luck.
Title: Re: my mission for the month Post by: Sark79 on October 09, 2006, 04:37:59 PM Do you play more than one table Claire? I am terrible at playing lots of tables and especially STT where you are in the last 3 players on both tables. I have said before I think tank is an Alien, I just get confused when everything is beeping me at the same time. I know from having played you in the past that you play 2/3 tables together. Maybe if you just play one and focus all your energies on that. I can't cope with more than two, my brain starts to hurt. I thought you were no longer playing MTT now and just concentrating on STT?
Title: Re: my mission for the month Post by: Graham C on October 09, 2006, 04:45:03 PM Have you tried heads up games? I'm not particually good at them but Laddies gave me a free $10 for something or other and as it wasn't enough to enter a $10 mtt (because of the rake) I decided to have a heads up (had enough for the rake of the hu in my account). Doubled up nice and easily, wasn't particually hard game.
Title: Re: my mission for the month Post by: Sark79 on October 09, 2006, 04:49:22 PM I tried to log into Ladbrokes last night. I kept getting an error message, I may have to re-install it at some point, although it has been months since I actually played there . The HU games on tribecca are my favorite because of the wide mix of limits. On Stars you are restricted to $5 and up-wards
Title: Re: my mission for the month Post by: suzanne on October 09, 2006, 04:53:28 PM I'm just completely fed up of the whole thing now to be honest. I think I am at where Suzanne was at a little while ago. I'm just going to stick to league games and freerolls for a bit. It will come back Claire, I am slowly getting there. I was down to $30 when I gave myself a severe talking too, I decided to go back to $1 and slowly build myself back up. The standard on there is awful and I soon got bored with it but at least it gave my confidence a bit of a boost knowing that I was better than that. I grinded out a few $3 taking me up to $60 but then blew $22 in last nights rebuy though I felt I played it as well as I could have so no regrets there. Tonights bounty will be another $10 donation then its back to the grindstone. I have discovered 2 things though. Freerolls are a complete crapshoot and any 2 cards can win so I have started loosening up a bit and seeing more flops that I might not have before as was suggested by a fellow blonde and its surprising how many times these cards hit (but then again you know that already :D) Still havent cashed in one but ive been close. The other thing is I have discovered is that I do better in a normal speed game than I do in an extended game and when I thought about it I realized that it was when I started playing extended that I started to go downhill. When I started playing extended I use to love them, longer blinds meant that you could sit back and wait for "good" hands so I wasnt watching the clock and subsequently wasnt pushing as much or stealing blinds when they were sitting there for the taking. I had in effect gotten "lazy" and had lost my aggresiveness. The game in effect had become boring and my loss of interest would result in me making a silly move when I know that someone had me beat, but still I would push my chips in. I feel quite pleased with myself that I can analyze where I am going wrong and make adjustments, so the confidence is slowly coming back. So dont worry Claire, you are a good player and it will come back. As Matt says "THINK POSITIVE". You set yourself a goal...dont be put off because you have fallen at the first hurdle. I was in a very similar postion to you suz after cashing out everything a month or so back to pay bills, I had no BR at all. The Freerolls are insane and the first couple I was knocked out after playing way too tight. But after adopting a more aggressive approach I cashed in five and that is what my current BR was built from. I then started the $0.25 STT on VC and slowly build up to the $10 + 15 STT I am at now after moving to another site last week. I am crap, you are in a much stronger postion regarding ability than I am Claire. I know you can do it :)up Title: Re: my mission for the month Post by: Claw75 on October 09, 2006, 06:10:20 PM thanks guys

Title: Re: my mission for the month Post by: Sark79 on October 09, 2006, 10:53:35 PM I went away from cash games because I have a self destruct part of my brain. This is annoying in my daily life as it causes me to do very strange things without thinking, but it is extremely annoying while playing poker because it causes me pain and to lose money. I like STT because if I don't cash, I lose $20 rather than $150 on a moment of insanity. I can't control it, I am cursed :D
When you become a big star cash player mate, allow me to become your first student ;) Title: Re: my mission for the month Post by: Graham C on October 09, 2006, 11:04:10 PM I don't see myself becoming rich playing cash unfortunately - there are too many donks around :D When I started, I had 2 great weeks when I made a nice amount. Then the next 2 weeks, I lost around 2/3's of it and it made me feel pretty bad - I couldn't work out what I was doing wrong. I think I became too loose. When I started, I was playing tight as you can get and getting paid off when I hit. Then I became too confident but not good enough to outplay people, especially those that will call with anything in case they get lucky. It certainly does get to you when you loose a bit of money.
Mtt's are where I'll become a famous player then they'll invite me to the Big Game and I'll lose it to them :D Title: Re: my mission for the month Post by: Sark79 on October 09, 2006, 11:12:33 PM Good luck :D , you have to think positive about the big game. Doyle will be too old by then so you will be able to trick him, Gus will probably be busy entertaining all his girlfriends, Phil Ivey would have moved on from playing poker and will be concentrating on his pacman game instead, DN will be building his poker business empire, Patrick Antonius will be gone as well. The fast cars, money, women and fame will leave him a poker burn out at 30 yrs old. You should have a clear run to the $1 million pots ;)
Title: Re: my mission for the month Post by: Claw75 on October 09, 2006, 11:21:01 PM doubled up to $10 then quit while I was ahead :)

Title: Re: my mission for the month Post by: KeithyB on October 10, 2006, 04:59:41 PM Come on Claire....no giving up now!!!!!!! ;slavedriver;
Seriously though, another idea might be to try playing another site for a change. I've recently switched back to a site where I haven't played for a long while and have made 3/3 final tables from 100+ fields whereas elsewhere I've been fairly flat. It just feels good playing there at the moment. All in my head I know but, hey, whatever works and makes you feel good about poker has to be a help! ;woohoo; Might be worth a try. Anyway, that Ladies-only live event is waiting on your entry!!! Title: Re: my mission for the month Post by: Claw75 on October 10, 2006, 05:28:36 PM thanks Keithy. I've never really played cash before, but since Graham's suggestion I've been pottering around on the 5c/10c NL tables, sticking down $5 then doubling up. keeping that separate from the other money in my account I've changed that $5 into $25 so far, so might keep plodding on at this cash lark for a bit :)
Title: Re: my mission for the month Post by: Graham C on October 10, 2006, 06:08:10 PM Great news to hear it's working :) I have to give up cash for a while soon, I've become too loose and it's not good. Lost another $60 last night. On to mtt's and back to a few stt's to get my game back.
Rotation is a good thing I think. Title: Re: my mission for the month Post by: Claw75 on October 12, 2006, 10:57:51 PM well, despite the mission not going quite to plan, I will be giving the ladies tourney a bash. I had a few encouraging PMs, two with offers of 50% backing, one which I have decided to take up. I will leave it up to the gentleman concerned if he wants to reveal himself, but a big thank you to you (and to my other would be backer - you know who you are :))
