Title: Poker beats - a new poker podcast Post by: mikkyT on October 07, 2006, 12:17:59 PM Hi everyone.
You might have heard me going on about "my new project" in various posts recently. Well, its finally launched. The pilot episode at least. Hopefully its my way of giving something back to the poker community, especially blonde poker to whom I feel I owe so much. Its something I feel there is an opening for. We have poker TV shows in their droves and we have poker websites. Whilst there are a few poker podcasts they seem to be the "bloke talking to another bloke, in front of a screen" format. Theres certainly scope for many of the things you get in a TV show and the benefit of the format is that you can download it and listen at your leisure. You dont even need an ipod - you download the mp3 file onto your PC. I know guys in Cincinnati club like to listen to podcasts whilst they are at the tables in a live game. You can download it from my website, I'd apprieciate any feedback if possible. I an tentatively posting a link, but if the mods want to remove it feel free. http://mikkysworld.com/index.php/pokerbeats/2006/10/07/poker_beats_episode_1 Title: Re: Poker beats - a new poker podcast Post by: LukieD on October 07, 2006, 12:36:39 PM I haven't listened yet but try and get it listed on ITunes. That will get you a lot more listeners. Also a good way of letting your listeners contact you rather than just emailing is by putting a forum on your website which allows discussion about the things you talk about!
Will listen later! ;goodluck; Title: Re: Poker beats - a new poker podcast Post by: mikkyT on October 07, 2006, 12:38:22 PM You can comment on my posts on my website. I don't want a forum on my site though. There are already many good poker forums and thats not what my blog is about.

Title: Re: Poker beats - a new poker podcast Post by: Tonji on October 07, 2006, 02:56:22 PM nice one Mikky, just had a listen, very slick... look forward to the next one.

I loved the bad beat story...it's like a love story I could cry to! The way i was put together and presented was amazing and very good for a first try.
I will be listening to all the future podcasts Good luck with it Mikky xxx Title: Re: Poker beats - a new poker podcast Post by: MrsLime on October 07, 2006, 04:30:13 PM I think the background 'music' could come down slightly in the mix.
Title: Re: Poker beats - a new poker podcast Post by: mikkyT on October 07, 2006, 04:38:13 PM Is there anything about paintball in there? Im sure Billy can bring it up for the next show :D Title: Re: Poker beats - a new poker podcast Post by: GlasgowBandit on October 07, 2006, 04:41:52 PM Something different.
But the background music was terrible - if that was toned down and something more soothing played it could have been really enjoyable the voice overs where good! Title: Re: Poker beats - a new poker podcast Post by: Poppet7 on October 07, 2006, 04:43:39 PM I liked the background music but do agree that it could have been slightly quieter. Other than that I think it worked really well and each piece of music 'suited' the feature.
Title: Re: Poker beats - a new poker podcast Post by: Sark79 on October 07, 2006, 04:45:12 PM Two things have surprised me this month about Blonde members. Mikky should have a Scottish accent and Matt should have an Irish accent. For as long as I have been on Blonde, I have had an image of mikky speaking with a Scottish accent and Matt with an Irish since he told me he was from Ireland. Instead I hear one with a Liverpool accent and the other with a Manchester accent. Very confusing. Next I will discover Flushy speaks with a Carribean accent and tank has a thick Welsh accent like Dewi :D . I may be wrong there as well, Dewi probably speaks with a NZ accent mixed with French tones
Kev doesn't sound like Bill Oddie either. He should do, my mind is making audio mistakes constantly at the moment Title: Re: Poker beats - a new poker podcast Post by: Poppet7 on October 07, 2006, 04:48:02 PM What accent should I have Sark?
Title: Re: Poker beats - a new poker podcast Post by: Sark79 on October 07, 2006, 04:53:41 PM jeez, I am under pressure now to come up with a good answer that will make you happy :D
I would say you have a laid back type voice like a teacher I once had a school . Title: Re: Poker beats - a new poker podcast Post by: Poppet7 on October 07, 2006, 05:00:16 PM Hmmm... I'm not sure...
You'll have to ask someone that's met me but I'd say my voice is quite childish, especially on the phone! ...and you didn't have to come up with an answer to make-me-happy... just don't say COCKNEY! ;) Title: Re: Poker beats - a new poker podcast Post by: Royal Flush on October 07, 2006, 05:22:34 PM What accent should I have Sark? I somehow missed all the build up posts to the big weekend.
I left a comment mikky on your site . My name is in disguise though Title: Re: Poker beats - a new poker podcast Post by: LukieD on October 07, 2006, 05:31:28 PM defo agree on the music being an issue. I prefer poker podcasts that have NO music apart from the into. If I wanted to listen to music I would be playing mp3s

Title: Re: Poker beats - a new poker podcast Post by: Royal Flush on October 07, 2006, 05:36:23 PM I just went to listen to it and its a dead link
Title: Re: Poker beats - a new poker podcast Post by: Poppet7 on October 07, 2006, 05:38:35 PM I think Mikky is having some problems with his blog at the moment
Title: Re: Poker beats - a new poker podcast Post by: Sark79 on October 07, 2006, 05:39:15 PM yep it is gone, he may have been talent spotted by an agent . Maybe we will see mikky sitting in Paul O'grady's spot on C4 on Monday
Title: Re: Poker beats - a new poker podcast Post by: mikkyT on October 07, 2006, 09:10:39 PM I just went to listen to it and its a dead link I had some technical issues earlier with my site, meaning I had to reinstall a backup and the domain was down briefly. It should all be working again now. Title: Re: Poker beats - a new poker podcast Post by: mikkyT on October 07, 2006, 09:19:06 PM Keep the feedback coming guys, the more the merrier as it can all be taken on board for the first show proper.
Title: Re: Poker beats - a new poker podcast Post by: ACE2M on October 08, 2006, 10:22:30 AM who does the american bits?
I think you should turn the music down just a bit. The segments should be a little shorter or broken up by something. Quite enjoyed it, you should get 3 or 4 of the scottish types and sit them round the mic with plenty of buckfast and see what happens. Title: Re: Poker beats - a new poker podcast Post by: madasahatstand on October 08, 2006, 10:30:00 AM too much of the same music and too many spaces between articles. i like the guys voice though:) the music gets a bit better later on.
good luck mikky:) Title: Re: Poker beats - a new poker podcast Post by: mikkyT on October 08, 2006, 06:00:32 PM ACE2M thats planned for next time unless Billy has taken the hump with me :) All being well we should have a good tournament to report on as we will be taking the mic to one of the scottish home games. Cant say much more than that yet :)
Thanks for the feedback. I realise now that the music is too loud in certain spots, the introduction bit for instance. Next time I think instead of recording live, I'll give it a good edit and polish :D Afterall thats one of the benefits of having a downloadable service instead of live TV. Title: Re: Poker beats - a new poker podcast Post by: mikkyT on October 08, 2006, 10:20:22 PM Traffic report for mikkysworld.com :

Title: Re: Poker beats - a new poker podcast Post by: Sark79 on October 23, 2006, 10:19:52 AM ok, thanks. I was just wondering if there was already one out. Whenever I check his site , I always get an egg timer and blank screen

Title: Re: Poker beats - a new poker podcast Post by: mikkyT on October 25, 2006, 03:17:30 PM ok, thanks. I was just wondering if there was already one out. Whenever I check his site , I always get an egg timer and blank screen Stupid bloody servers always seem to go down when you are out of town. Fixed now. Its getting too many hits and either runs out of memory or hits some other ridiculously low limit set by the hosting company (max number of TCP/IP sockets or something). Title: Re: Poker beats - a new poker podcast Post by: mikkyT on October 26, 2006, 07:40:14 PM Is there a next installement coming? I haven't seen mikky around for the last week or so If you want a wee heads up, the next installment will be up shortly after the blonde league finale. I'm going to do a piece on the tournament, a "man in the can" report. Title: Re: Poker beats - a new poker podcast Post by: mikkyT on October 29, 2006, 02:03:17 AM Poker beats #2 is now available for download! You can get it from iTunes (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=201042852), or from PodcastPickle (http://www.podcastpickle.com/casts/17396/) or simply grab it direct from http://mikkysworld.com/pokerbeats.
Over 1,500 "hits" where recorded for episode #1. And an additional +10GB to my usual 1Gb bandwidth usage... I wonder if episode #2 will top that... It took me 7 bastard hours to edit out all the audio today. I started when the kids went to bed after Robin Hood and its taken me until now to finish. I'm not totally happy but it passes my "muster" which is what counts I guess.... Description: In this weeks bad beat, Danny S comes face to face with Men Nyguen in the WSOP 2006, whilst Colchester Kev takes a bit of a pelting during our feature presentation, the livecast of the Blonde Poker League finale! (geek joke) Actual episode is up now. It was displaying episode #1 when it should have been #2. Fixed now. Title: Re: Poker beats - a new poker podcast Post by: mikkyT on October 29, 2006, 04:15:28 AM **************************************** WTF??????? I thouhgt my account was safe???
