It was spam.

C'mon that was funny!

can someone Pm me the link to the site I was going to have a look at that later tonight.

I think removing that was a bit harsh, perhaps just removing the hyperlink would have been more appropriate.

blonde provides all it's services for free. Revenue from advertising is important to to us if we are to continue.

If we allow people to advertise for free, why would anyone bother paying?

The person who posted the link was a new member, that was his first and only post. Call me suspicious, but I think he may have a financial incentive.

Like I said red I only wanted ro read the comic, I agree with looking after blonde from non paying advertisers, This site is a business and must put itself first, I would have removed the link from the post as the rest of what i saw seemed to be acceptable.

Just an opinion.

You guys still do a good job though  ;)

In a word, no. we can't provide free live updates, information services, bounties, freerolls, blonde bashes and a host of other stuff and then offer rakeback from our meagre budget.

It's not mandatory to play at blondepoker, but we are very grateful to those members who support us by doing so.

Yes we could, we're discussing it at the moment. but I think it sends a clear message to spammers if these posts, especially from first time posters, are deleted entirely.

Hey guys, I didn't realise it would be considered "spam"... I'm a new member and thought I could post something interesting for you guys to check out as it was in the General Discussion forum which said "Feel free to talk about anything and everything here both on and off the topic of poker". This is nothing to do with rakeback and not intended as advertising which can therefore take away anything from Blonde Poker, it's just a comic strip. That is it. The reason I linked was because there's lots of other comics on the site, not just the one I posted. The comic is hilarious though, it's about time someone made something original like this!

This is NOT meant as spam and I'm not sure if I'm even allowed to post this link again here but as people were actually asking what it was... it was...

Nice to meet you guys, I'm still checking out all the material but there's just too much!!

I have removed it again. it seems you are a slow learner.

hey tehmac - I wouldn't worry about it, it takes time to get to know the rules and regulations in a new place, and that's especially difficult when they aren't published anywhere  ;goodvevil;

I don't think there was any need for the slow learner comment either.  Please don't let it put you off - we're generally a friendly bunch round here :)

It was indeed me. The reasons for removal are clearly discussed in the thread, so he can't plead ignorance of the rules, he continues to post someting when I have removed it once and have made it clear it is not allowed.

I'm trying to do a difficult job here. and instead of support from the members I get criticism. That doesn't help me or the newbies.  Why do you think my comment was rude and uncalled for?

Title: Re: what happened to the online comic thread?
Post by: Claw75 on October 09, 2006, 02:43:59 PM
IMHO there was just no need for the 'slow learner' comment Red (which, again in my opinion only, is offensive, and bordering on personal abuse).  A simple repetition of the reasons for the removal of the link would have sufficed.  It is clear from his introductory thread elsewhere that tehmac has no financial gain to be made from the site linked to.

That said I, and the majority of blondes, fully appreciate the work all the mods do here, and realise that sometimes it is like walking a tightrope.

I do think it's a bit dim to repost something which had already been deleted and which you'd been told was not allowed.

A little tip Red-Dog - if you edit someone else's post make sure it's clear it was you that made the edit (something like EDIT: RED-DOG at the start) - it'll save possible confusion.

The rules concerning spam are discussed in this very thread, tehmac even refers to them in his post.

I am at a loss as to why on the one hand some of you say you prefer a moderated forum, and on the other you can't wait to leap on what you seem to perceive as a calculated effort to alienate new members. I am doing what I think is best in the interests of blonde, I don't set out to intentionally insult anyone.

I'm sorry that you don't know me better by now.

Thank you for your tip Andrew, but as it happens both Iron and I edited the post at the same time, and it appears to have short-curcited the automatic thingy that says who did the edit.

For your information Claw, I was in the middle of drafting an explanatory PM to tehmac when I had to stop to answer these questions and accusations.

hey - I'm not attacking anyone here - just making the point that the comment could have come across as insulting.  I know, not from personal experience, but close hand, how upsetting it can be for some people to be labelled 'slow learners'.  Perhaps because of that I took the comment with rather more sensitivity than I should - if so, I apologise.

I never suggested that you didn't PM tehmac either Red, and as I said before, but will repeat it, I think you all do a sterling job  :respect:

Let me put this another way. Imagine you had a job that you did to the best of your ability. Then imagine you had 3814 people watching you do it.

They are not in possession of all of the facts, but they tell you, in public, how it should be done. (in their many individual opinions) Then they move on to do something else, leaving you to finish the job that they have, perhaps unwittingly, made so much more difficult.

Before everyone starts blaming Ironside i'd just like to point out that it did originally say that Red-Dog had edited the post - but then because tehmac then went back and modified something after Red's edit it has taken that "last modified by" now shows tehmac instead.

Red I do not believe that anyone was TELLING you how to moderate, Although a few suggestions are always good to keep things ship shape.

I knnow the mods to a great job yourself included but when I read the comment i though you were upset about something as that sort of comment is just out of character for you in particular red, perhaps a smiley would have helped?

The guy made a booboo, he admitted it, he was just sharing something we could relate to and find funny.

Title: Re: what happened to the online comic thread?
Post by: byronkincaid on October 09, 2006, 03:31:19 PM
I think the trouble is that online you can't see a twinkle in someone's eye or a smile on their face or hear their tone of voice. For Red I imagine it's even harder, because he's such a good writer people are going to give him less leeway for accidentally writing something (in haste or while multitabling or on tilt after a huge outdraw etc) that may possibly come across badly to some people.

Everyone knows for example that I'm a complete moron who can't write proper so I could probably write the exact same thing as Red and cause no offense whatsoever. I have read some stuff that I thought was quite cutting by some posters then met them in real life and realised that there's no way they meant it in the way I took it to mean, it was my lack of understanding what i was reading.

Anyway this proves that I'm a slow learner cos I'm sure I told myself to stay out of the more controversial threads from now on :D

Yes, I was a little annoyed! I deleted a spammy thread last night, I did it while I was busy with several other things. Never the less, I was questioned by the members and I had to take the time to answer their questions. Then, today (when I am also busy) he reads about the reasons for deletion, and promptly posts it again.

I do get tetchy sometimes, and when I do I'm not always at my most diplomatic, but I'm a nice guy really  ;)

I personally think a bit of spam is less damaging to blonde than 'mods' being offensive to new members.

Gosh!

Poor Red's been backed into a corner, was probably doing 4 or 5 things at once (you know how men can't multitask!).

It was a tad curt, but knowing Red, I expect it was made in the best of hearts, and meant to be seen as a playful smack on the hand.

I believe he has tried to make amends....

Mr Newbie, shrinking player bases in line with the current situation (The Oncoming Storm - top marks to those who can spot that reference), has probably made the mods a bit protective of their lovely cardroom. They are all lovely really.

I'm not sucking up to anyone - god knows I wouldn't do that - ask the mods LOL, but lots of bods attacking is a sure fire way to get ANYONE's hackles up, specially a pedigree like Red's. Let him get out of his corner, shake his fur down and then everyone will be a bit calmer :)

Thing is with moderation, is that, like a host at a particularly nice party, you aren't supposed to notice them unless they mess up, usually swearing loudly at the third glass of red wine on their beige carpet. Who knows what has happened in the secret room (they probably still haven't found the kettle) over the last few days - you won't have noticed the crisii they have averted - because they were doing their job seamlessly as usual.

Heid

Well it's not a big enough deal to me to remove the banner just for this, especially since I might be getting a big sponsor soon and would then have a new ad up anyway, causing the removal of the link again and even more trouble for the mods!  But maybe this will work (in case the following gets edited out, I'm linking to a page that has zero ads on it) --

http://plusev.net/plusev20060811.gif (http://plusev.net/plusev20060811.gif)

That shows the first strip without any ads or anything, just the comic.  New strips run every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and that first strip was on a Friday, August 11, so you could just change the date at the end of that link to 814 for the second strip, Monday, then 816 (Wed), 818 (Fri), 821 (Mon), and so on.
