Title: PARCEL SCAM Post by: GlasgowBandit on October 09, 2006, 10:03:49 PM Thought this might be worth sharing:
> In the run-up to Christmas (sorry but it really is getting to that time of year) a number of scams will be doing the rounds. This scam has been around for a while but is expected to get worse. > If you find a card pushed through your letter-box from Parcel Delivery Service telling you there is a parcel for you and asking you to ring a 0906 6611911, this is almost certainly a scam. This number is under investigation by ICSTIS, the premium rate regulator, and charges £1.50 a minute for you to listen to a long recorded message. If you are asked to ring a premium rate number and have access to the internet, log onto www.icstis.org.uk <http://www.icstis.org.uk> where you can enter the phone number and check it out to see if it is one they are investigating. > These criminals may change the name of the company and register new premium rate numbers to try to fool people, so please take care. Title: Re: PARCEL SCAM Post by: Decider on October 09, 2006, 10:38:25 PM It's £15 for this number as soon as you hear the recorded message. My company sent a warning about this scam a couple of months ago.

Title: Re: PARCEL SCAM Post by: Decider on October 10, 2006, 09:15:20 AM a lot of these warnings tend to be fake btw, be sensible regardless tho True, but this one is identical to the one sent out to thousands of our employees by the internal security dept. I think I've seen 3 warnings like this in 5 years so I tend to believe this one. In reality though, what are the odds of actually getting one of these cards? Title: Re: PARCEL SCAM Post by: matt674 on October 10, 2006, 09:22:01 AM In reality though, what are the odds of actually getting one of these cards? Depends how many people are sat at your table. If your at a 9-handed table then you should always swap your card with the person sat 3 to your right otherwise you end up with a herd of goats......... Short-handed your probably better of with what you've already got!! :)up Title: Re: PARCEL SCAM Post by: Decider on October 10, 2006, 10:10:09 AM In reality though, what are the odds of actually getting one of these cards? True mate. this came from our internal security also, and they dont often send out many alerts but when they do its spot on. I assume this one is being treated as serious because it has been sent out twice in the past week. |
