Title: Should the river card be banned? Discuss........ Post by: Dingdell on September 05, 2005, 02:34:44 AM I have just travelled all the way to Birmingham to play in a satellite for the Celebpoker game on Tuesday. 7 players left, three tickets available. Me short stacked - go all in pre flop with with AQsuited - a good bet I think.
The inexperienced 'I've only played in two games before' decides to call me because he doesn't want me to go out - he will double me up.......... he has 5 10 of diamonds. Another short stack goes all in - he has nothing also. I AM AHEAD All blanks but a growing flush draw for the diamonds and yes he gets his flush on the river. 1. Why did he have to be so chivalrous? Or was he being clever? 2. I nearly always lose if I go in ahead - when I'm behind I win all the time ;-( Should we A) ban the river card for all on bets? and B) was I right to let his tyres down? Tracey As long as you're getting ya chips in with best of it, you shouldn't worry. Your luck will change and your time will come. Patience is the key. Title: Re: Should the river card be banned? Title: Re: Should the river card be banned? Discuss........ Post by: TightEnd on September 05, 2005, 12:17:06 PM Hey James, thanks for your help yesterday
Tracey, you're a good player, have hardly seen you make a wrong move for months. I'm surprised this sort of thing bothers you! P.S Do I get a free treatment now? Title: Re: Should the river card be banned? Discuss........ Post by: Dingdell on September 05, 2005, 12:27:11 PM Aaaah - thank you - really nice thing to say :)
I guess I was miffed because the palm beach who are a stanley casino too decided not to run satellites - and that would have been a proper game with proper players.... if you know what i mean? I really wanted to play the £100K gtee on Tuesday but didnt want to pay £1,000 to enter. Still I have a great alternative now...... ;D Tracey PS - Free treatment - of course - as long as you agree to the web cam...... :o Title: Re: Should the river card be banned? Discuss........ Post by: londonpokergirl on September 05, 2005, 12:29:22 PM Also I know this may sound bad , but if i'm getting good odds to call a bet even with J9, 79 , 52 etc I'll call to try knock somebody out because unless they have a pair you're 60/40 shot most of the time.
Last night online took somebody out with 73o against their KQ but i was getting 2.5/1 to call it which I did go on to win the tourney Sounds harsh but it works for me Title: Re: Should the river card be banned? Discuss........ Post by: Dingdell on September 05, 2005, 12:31:31 PM I agree - absolutely - but only when I'm doing the calling - you know how it is!!
:D Title: Re: Should the river card be banned? Discuss........ Post by: Maroon on September 05, 2005, 12:47:11 PM Spot on Londonpokergirl. I was short stacked recently with two tables left. At-it merchant puts me all in and I call with K-10s. He winces when he see my hand and he shows .....4-2o. I go out when he paired his 2 and I go to the rail thinking "Bad beat".
I later put the hand through the odds calculator and find out it is a much closer situation than I ever thought. I keep learning. :D |
