Title: Heads up
Post by: Dingdell on September 05, 2005, 02:49:54 PM
This might already be happening so shout me down if I'm behind the times - but is anyone interested in a blondite heads up tourney? I love heads up play and often at the final table it's chopped so heads up doesn't happen very often....

Is it something that already happens or not?

I was thinking that blondites could go onto one of the sites offering heads up and play their game on the cheapest heads up game ie. ten cents and it could be done on a league basis. Games have to be played within a week - that type of thing.

Thoughts anyone?

Tracey

Excellent!

I have thought about suggesting this but know you have to be careful to make sure you get people to take part in the matches, it may be better to have a knockout comp then there will be less issues. A B&M cardroom tried to set a HU Comp and it has been going on for months and there are a lot of frustrated people, they didn't set dates by which games had to take place.

we could always set up a HU tourny to be played over and evening

if there is intrest in that it can be arranged on a week later in the month

good idea in theory

I suspect the powers that be and their grandad will wish to establish the weekly blonde MTTs first

but the idea of a blonde league has certainly been mentioned before

and heads up would be popular too I suspect

Of course, if Blondepoker had it's own skin for a site................. ;)

Great - i was thinking about how they run local squash/tennis leagues where you enter a league and then have to have played your game by a certain date - normally a week or so. it's up to the 2 players to contact each other and agree the site and time and then liase on messenger or something about the game they log into. If it all goes wrong and they get a quicker caller one of them may have paid ten cents - no big deal.

All matches/results etc posted on web site - final games have to have been played by a specified date.  If its a knockout it could be run every month to keep people interested. Possible prizes donated by companies looking to promote them selves or just the glory of winning.  :)

ah, how about this for an idea
has anyone ever played in a pool padder? this format would work brilliantly for a HU league.

here's how it works.
Say there are 20 players drawn randomly to begin with. all pay an entry fee of £10 into an account
once a week you must challenge at least one personabove you in the league to a HU match. any stake, any site.
if the challenger winsthey move up one rung of the ladder and the looser pays £1 into the prize pool. the challenged player doesn't move (unless they were directly above the challenger). if the challenger loses no one moves and the challenger pays the £1

EG after the random draw I might be in 15th place and spot a fish in 10th and challenge them. we agree on a $10 HU on Laddies. if I win I move up to 14th and the fish pays £1 into a pot but remains in 10th. i he gets lucky no-one moves and I have to pay the £1.

Everyone must make at least 1 challenge in a week. a player mustaccept at least 3 challenges per week, althuogh if they're not challenged the only game they must play is their mandatory challenge.

Thoughts?

I used to play in a squash league, which was ladder based.  You could challenge anyone 3 rungs up the ladder and if you won you moved above them and they moved down a place. - its a good format but you have to start with initial rankings to get your ladder placings. After a while it sorts itself out and you get a good ladder / rankings system.

Man i really HATE those ladder things, never used to get a challenge accepted in the old tennis ladder down the local club, was ridiculous had all the egos trying to protect their position while the people who didnt care ( the good players) cud never get a game  ???

I've played in a Heads Up League via 'another forum' which was a team event - it was good fun!

Basically, interested parties signed up and were drafted by about 10 team captains into teams of 5.  Each week a league fixture was played by each team and the top 4 teams at the end of the league played a knockout stage to determine the winners.  Top 4 teams all got cash back.

Good points:
Plenty of heads up practice for a fixed buy-in as each player got several games.
League format reduced the short-term luck factor.
Team structure was fun.
We negotiated with a site to provide league-specific tables for games to be played on.

Bad points:
Not that many - other than some players initial enthusiasm waned and they stopped organising their games so there were a few 'walkover' results.

IIRC we all put in $50 each for this one.  The winning team got $150 each back but the intention of the league all along was to give players practice and in that respect it was very valuable.

Food for thought, perhaps.

Heads up comp between blondeites? Great idea.

League Table for blondeites. Great idea.

Getting money transferred from person to person? Nightmare City.

The truth is, we need more help, blonde is growing rapidly, & it's overwhelming me, & those that are helping out, Ironside for example. Until we earn more money, we can't aford to hire more staff - it's important to get the fundamentals right.

So, a blonde League - if someone can administer it, fine, ditto the Heads-Up thing. But to avoid a "fre-for-all", with different folks all scrambling to set these things up, it really has to go through a centrl point to gain "official" blonde approval.

I am very much in favour, but just too busy right now to be able to organise & run these things.

Suggestions?

Ouir own "skin"? Watch this space. It's in the Grand Plan, & much progress has been made, ( more than you'd imagine) but it has to be just right. So many of the newer cardrooms are, quite frankly, not up to scratch. We'd rather not do it than do it badly.

And if & when we do announce a blonde online card-room, consider the commercial ramifications on our current partners......

Buit blonde will be here for a while, in more imaginative & wide reaching ways than you'd ever imagine. We've been busy beavers these last few months, & there are all sorts of things happening.

Remember, as Red-Dog says, blondes have more fun.

transfering money would be a nightmare i agree. what if we all paid a fee to enter a league say £10/£20 and this was paid to 1 person for arguements sake say tikay.(i am not saying it has to be tikay as i know he is very busy with other things this is just an example) and 100 people enter thats obvoiusly £1000 in the prize pool prizes for top 5 people in the league 'at the end of the season'. it could be played on a 10 cent basis so the win/loss would be hardly anything. fixtures could be drawn at random or the 1st fixtures could be at random to get people a ranking then the ladder system would come into effect

Thanks Dan - but how do we transfer cash around the site?

Title: Re: Heads up
Post by: dan on September 05, 2005, 07:39:56 PM
you wouldnt everybody would have to pay an upfront entry fee to whoever is in charge maybe by cheque or bank transfer. would that not work?

Oh come on guys, just apply to stars to set up a private heads up tournament. everbody buys in as normal and the best players (or the luckiest- aimed at barry/atit that comment) get the cash. Administrate it- it would take me 2 mins to email them and set it up, password protected of course.
