Title: Things that bug me Post by: roverthtaeh on October 17, 2006, 08:55:01 PM Have I experienced dejavu before?
Have you ever actually seen "garage doors constantly in use" ? At the 10 items or less checkout, do I count grapes individually? How would I know if I've had amnesia? Title: Re: Things that bug me Post by: booder on October 17, 2006, 09:07:01 PM yes
yes yes you would remember Title: Re: Things that bug me Post by: MrsLime on October 18, 2006, 03:44:04 AM Have I experienced dejavu before? Please refer to my prior reply. Quote Have you ever actually seen "garage doors constantly in use" ? One could argue that 'constantly' does not have to be taken literally -- it can also mean 'regularly'. Quote At the 10 items or less checkout, do I count grapes individually? Grapes come in bunches. One bunch is one item. Just as a 24-pack of Coke counts as one item, not 24. If you mean that you pick off the individual grapes in order to throw away the stalks (which I suppose you might do to save money, since grapes are sold by weight, I think), then that is just weird. I suppose you could put them all in a bag. One bag is one item. Anyway, the thing that bugs me more than someone having 11 items, is that Tesco got their grammar wrong -- the correct phrase is actually '10 items or fewer'. Quote How would I know if I've been misquoted? Left as exercise for reader. One could argue that 'constantly' does not have to be taken literally -- it can also mean 'regularly'. One could also argue that "in use" does not mean to say that things are going in and out. Their "use" could involve something as simple as maintaining a physical barrier between lawnmower and lawnmower thief. Title: Re: Things that bug me Post by: thetank on October 18, 2006, 04:09:34 AM If one has spare time enough to pluck all the stalks out of all the grapes one intends to purchase, then it is a fair bet that one will perhaps not require express checkout lines quite so much anyway.
Title: Re: Things that bug me Post by: MrsLime on October 18, 2006, 04:17:01 AM Two excellent points, thetank.
Clever guy, this 'One' fellow, whoever he is. I wouldn't want to get in a debate with him. People who react to people who play internet poker and take ages to act on every hand no matter what's happening by typing ZZZZZ in the chat box. Celine Dion. "The incident occurred sometime between the 26th and 27th of September." Huh? There's nothing between these dates. The twilight zone, perhaps? "Police are looking for between 5 and 7 youths." So they're looking for 6 then. Do things like this bug you, or is it just me? Title: Re: Things that bug me Post by: Jack Bauer on October 18, 2006, 06:04:30 PM My daughter getting kidnapped.

Both examples are clearly referring to an inclusive rather than exclusive range. Really, if you want to be a pedant then good for you; but there are many better targets than the examples you are coming up with. Title: Re: Things that bug me Post by: matt674 on October 19, 2006, 11:51:11 AM Advertisers who use the slogan "new and improved" on their product. How can this be?!?!?!? If it is new it is the first of its kind and therefore there is nothing preceeding it that could have been improved upon. If it is improved then you are taking something that previously existed and making it a better product - IT CANNOT BE BOTH!!! Sports commentators who insist on repeatedly saying "its the final pass/ball that is letting them down". OF COURSE IT IS!!! Its ALWAYS the final pass that lets them down thats why its the FINAL pass!! If player A manages to thread the ball through the eye of a needle to player B then the move is continuing and it is not the final pass. If player A is Darren Fletcher who couldnt hit a cow's arse with a shovel then his pass always gets intercepted and its the final pass of the move. trivial to most i know but gets on monkeys nerves anyway :) taken from following thread http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=3244.0 Title: Re: Things that bug me Post by: roverthtaeh on October 19, 2006, 01:22:20 PM People who berate others on an online forum over something that was clearly made in jest. agreed Title: Re: Things that bug me Post by: bolt pp on October 19, 2006, 01:27:09 PM Excerpts from a recent local radio news bulletin: "The incident occurred sometime between the 26th and 27th of September."
