Title: Poker 425 - The End......?
Post by: tikay on October 25, 2006, 05:00:24 PM

Wel, we have just finished recording this week's Poker 425. Officially that is the last one ever.

And we ended as we started - with me getting it round my neck. I thanked the "Producer, Marcus", (in fact, he's the Director) & forgot to thank the real Producer, Steve "Wormster" Meehan. Pah! Sorry, Steve.

And I had a bit of a rant, too. Well, if you can't rant on the last show, when can you rant? Usual thing, what about Added Money or Added Value in Tourneys? - "sponsors" are getting away with murder. And let's remember the regular guys - it's all very well being a "name" player, there are big comps every week, but how about some decent-structured, deep-stack tourneys for the foot-soldiers? Ah well, I'll just have to keep banging this drum.

Anyway, thats that. A big thanks to William Hill & Poker 425. Who'd have thought it, it's been on 7 nights a week for 18 months?

What next? For me, I have more projects on the go than I could ever have dreamed, & my unexpected diversion into TV is far from over. Lots of stuff happening there, details soon. My only regret is that there are only 7 days in the week, & I don't get the time to play as much poker as I'd like to these days. Still, I can't have it both ways, & some of the stuff I'm on with is well exciting.

For the 425 Crew as a whole, well, we ain't going away, "things" are happening, & it's a "watch this space" jobbie.

It's been emotional, thats for sure.

xx

Ahh its been a wicked show. I think the presenters and you have made for great TV over the period of time in which its been running.

Alas, no more shots of Tikay pre-peroxide in the opening credits.  It still always freaks me out when I see that!

Goodbye Poker 854!

Poker 425 was a great show.

It was good of William Hill to Stick with Tikay, and in my opinion
they got it spot on.

Made for players of all levels and made entertaining by
Tony. It would nice to see the first episode to again
comparing a complete TV novice turning into quite a professional
confident yet humorous presenter.

Good Luck

I enjoyed Tikay livening up the show, however i think the format/content was quite poor. Does enough go on every week to supply the need for a weekly show?

I would rather see it as bi-monthly or monthly then the show would be interesting AND funny.

I think i know what you have ahead, gl with it i feel it will be much better with a bigger budget!

good luck with your future venture Tikay.  How about 'blonde TV'?  I'm sure it would get a lot more passing viewers :D

Sad to see the shows demise. Let's face it what TV channel will want to cover a Blonde bash in the future?
I still think there is a place for shows like 425, but on a channel that is likely to get more viewers such as on 843.
Good luck to everyone else on the show including Compo, Stillhair, Wormster and Mrs C.
The show will be missed.

That IS a good point - it's hard to imagine blonde Bash's ever being on TV again. Still, one never knows.

So Poker425 didn't get broadcast tonight! I guess it wouldn't be Poker425 if there wasn't some problem in actually getting the programme to air!! Anyway it seems that the machine that plays it out crashed & they couldn't get working again in time (this sort of thing never used to happen when it used be someone's finger that pressed the "PLAY" button instead of a machine, but who am I to stand in the way of technology!) I've been assured that all will be well for the rest of the week, so fingers crossed eh?

Anyway, can I just say a big thank you to all on the blonde forum for their support of Poker425, it's been a pleasure to be connected to the forum & great to meet quite a few of you as well.

I also need to thank the players themselves. It was Phil Quayle's idea/wish to make a poker show about pokers players & for poker players & I hope we went someway in doing that. But none of it would've been possible without the players themselves being happy to be interviewed by us, sometimes just after taking an horrendous bad beat!

Coupled into that thank you are the Casinos/Cardrooms & Sponsors themselves who let us come to their venues to film.

And last, but not least, the whole crew; Jonny Gould, Dave Compton, Tikay, Rhowena, Billy Foley (camera), Tim Evans (editor),  Marcus Conrad (director), Andy Parton (VT), Clive Lawrence & Paul Tilling (the guv'nors) and all the other cam, vt & sound ops - you've all been great to work with & I think we had quite a few laughs along the way (and a few beers too).

Hopefully this won't be the last you see of us & we will be back in the near future but, now I have a bit more free time (I'm still the Senior Producer for Racing World, which takes up 4 nights a week),  I may make it to a couple of tournaments to play - so there's another fish for you take money off!

Thanks again,

Steve

I well remember meeting you in Vegas last year during the WSOP Main Event John, you were wearing your Wm Hill Cap & were all shy! Never seen you as quiet, since that day.....And I had just "become" blonde, that very week.....a lot of water has flowed under the bridge since then. Or was it peroxide?

Just a note to say thanks to alll the team at 425, especially them "uptairs" who gave me the opportunity etc etc.

Over the years, on various TV things,  I have worked with a huge number of guests and can honestly say that TK was the biggest fish of all.

I will sorely miss Poker 425 as it opened up a whole new world for me, an expensive one, but a new one.

It also introduced me to Blonde, lucky me, and this year in Walsall (incidentally the only football team where 50% of the name is made up of the same letters) was a weekend to remember with great affection.

Finally thanks to the viewers, without whom we wuld have been talking to ourselves. (make up your own jokes please)

See ya soon

Hi, i tuned into poker425 tonight and was shocked to see it was to be the last show.
It never made any mention why this was, so as soon as the show ended i checked on these forums and i couldn't find any explaination here either, so i'd just like to ask, what is the reason the shows been axed?

It ended because William Hill decided to close down their Channel, 854, (previously 425), & so the show never had a "home". Wm Hill, not unreasonably, are now targeting their Marketing spend on the Wm Hill Grand Prix, which has, deservedly, gained great respect.

But don't be giving up on the 425 Team yet awhile - discussions continue with 3 or 4 parties, & the show is far from finished, it may well appear "elsewhere" in January.

There is also other stuff going on under the radar - watch this space for some interesting news soon!

Im glad to hear that tikay.

Whilst there will ALWAYS be a viewer base for these sort of shows, its not likely they will ever become mainstream. And being on the fringe doesnt make a lot of money for the channel who carries the show. Unless you guys are prepared to work for free, giving up time for free and all the rest of it I cant see there being an awful lot of hope.  The blonde updates Im guessing cost you money and thats pretty much what I envision for a show carrying poker news. Its either gotta be amatuer or have some other revenue stream... like a sponsor?

We - those in the TV Show Team - are talking to several would-be Sponsors right now, & we have meetings lined up with 2 of them already.

The blonde Updates are a different ketle of fish. They will alway cost us cash, & that's by design. We just need to find enough revenue from other sources to finance them. I am fairly relaxed about achieving that. blonde is now covering costs - just - so we are OK for the moment. But oddly, just as we get past the break-even barrier, we have lost Poker 425 as a Badging Sponsor! Never mind, success was never meant to be easily achieved.

;goodluck; Tikay with finding a new home for such an informative fun show......lets face facts, its not exactly a high budget show ;) and with some gaming companies making big money from Poker/gambling, someone must see the benefit of "taking over"and using a bit of their Marketing budget . ....eg Poker Stars/ Betfair??
