Did both the HERO and VILLAIN play the hand correctly?  What would you have done differently?

I'd raise it more preflop... the more money that you get in the pot preflop the easier hands play post-flop, and people love to call preflop... so give them a chance to do so

As for the flop, you played it well. Calling is super standard

I'd have called.  I'd have been nervous, but I'd have called.

What about the villain's play?

Villain played it pretty good as well, both pre and on the flop. He is ahead here a good % of the time, and when he isn't he always has a lot of outs.

That's alright then.  I was actually the villain for that hand.  Was quite sure I'd played it OK (figured I had 15 outs, or at worse, 12 against AA) and thought I was slight favourite or worse case a slight dog.

Wasn't sure what I would have done if I'd been him though.  What would he put me on - AJ, two other spades, AA, QQ?

He actually said that he thought I had JJ, but he 'had to call'.

So I was trying to work out if I'd have called if I was him - and I probably would have.

thats far too much credit

you will see any flush draw/QJ/10J/KJ/AK/QQ/99/1010 getting their $$ in here, and given the preflop action, its pretty unlikely that you would have AA and pretty likely you have one of the hands mentioned. Maybe you specifically wouldn't have these hands, but random-creature-at-50/1 certainly will, and thats probably how he will see you until you have given him much reason to suspect otherwise.

First off, you need to raise more in order to define your hand more and garner more information on his. As your re-raise is only $7 more, you are inviting him to call with any two cards. Although that may sound good, it's not. He knows what you've probably got, yet you have no idea what he holds and he can use that against you to take your whole stack if he hits.

Once he moves in on the flop, you have to call as there are too many hands he can have that you have beat.
