Post by: alfiesdad on October 26, 2006, 12:25:44 PM
Its a $100 freezeout on bsq with 26 players and top 5 paid.  16 players left, the blinds have just rose sharply to 100/200 and its quite an active table including chip leader Mickey Wernick.

What would you do?

Don't like to disagree with the man but......

I'd say this is a good spot. It's not like 2 average stacks have got it in. 2 very short stacks have shipped their stacks into the middle. They don't need big hands to do this and i think JJ will run well against their ranges. There's the additional factor that you are last but one to act preflop and should be able to force mickey out by reraising here so you'll nearly always be playing for just 1/3 of your stack, leaving you enough chips to come back if you lose the pot.

You aren't closing the action but only have one active player behind you who unfortunately is the chip leader. That being said, you'd be very unlucky to run into a bigger hand here, you won't pass to a reraise so I would reraise allin to try and isolate the two shortstacks. If mickey has AA KK QQ it's very, very bad luck.

When he passes you'll nearly always be in decent shape.

I put the first pusher (unless he is v tight) on pretty much any ace, any reasonable paint KT+ QT+ and any pocket pair. He has 5 BBs and is desperate.

I put the 2nd alliner on a slightly , though not much tighter range, from PP 6s and up, A8+, KJ+. Ditto 5 BBs. Facing a pusher in front of him, hence the slightly tightened range.

This is a little bit subjective as i wasn't at the table to see how they were playing but I don't think their ranges will differ massively from this.

JJ runs at roughly 50% vs this range. Coin flipping  with >2-1 pot odds for one third of your stack is quite advantageous.

There is the complication that mickey may call behind and when he does, he will have a very good hand, but this will happen rarely and he can always call with hands that are behind you eg AK TT.

I agree with junglecat here. I would be tempted to call, depending on how mickey has been playing (I don't play with him so don't really know). I reackon one of them has got Ace rag maybe sooted and the other has a high ace or small PP. If I though the chipleader wasn't gonna call I definetly would.

You have to call, if only to bust slavvy and hear him moan! (he does have a tighter range than JC says)

It's too little to pass.

Thanks for that Jungle Cat, basically you just saved me alot of typing, as that was uncannily virtually exactly what i had said to my mate in our debate!

ALL-IN. they may only have one live card between given the stack sizes.
