blonde poker forum

this morning a person has decided to join the forum and post Porn links on all the boards, the mods are all in bed but we were contacted and i have deleted all the threads and banned the person in question

they have also sent the same post to people in PM's please just delete the PM and accept our applogies

there is nothing we can do to stop people doing this as its the nature of the internet but we will try and keep the offensive material on the board for as short a period as possible

there is no need to report any PM's from foxyamy as they are no longer welcome on this forum

What aouft if the member happened to delete any of the PMs in the hope of seeing anythin??????????

looks like they have sent the PM too all the members and some more than once


PLEASE dont report it as we know about it and getting 3918 reported PMs will just slow the forum down

I got 3, I wasn't suprised as I have seen THAT somewhere many times before.

I got three pics of some weird looking bloke and links to a bunch of strange sites.   I am about to deleate the PM'S and sites,  Is there a special way to deleate these without getting a virus or should I just click deleate?    I am not very switched on when it comes to computers,  is there a danger of getting a virus if I try to deleate the three PM's?


Edit.  I just deleated them and I seem to be working ok, so there is obviously no virus connected to them ( Not sure it is actually possible to get a virus this way anyway ).  thanks 

I am not a techie, Sark, but I'd have thought as long as you don't open the links, you should be OK virus-wise.

I am quite curious as to how this new Member spammed so many people, & how he knew what Members - seemingly mainly "regulars" - to PM.

Increasingly, to my mind, it seems like someone we have upset, someone who knows who is who on blonde. Such is life.

That must have taken him/her ages to do, what a waste of time. Why not learn a language or learn to cook a nice meal, or go a walk in the Country instead. Surely that is a better use of someones time rather than spamming a poker forum with nonsense

I do know that the sender knows this Forum, & it's Members, pretty well. All the Boards were spammed, too.

can you not look up his IP and name him (im assuming its a him anyway). Maybe if everyone knows what a prat he is being he will stop (I am asuming its somebody who has issues with blonde).

How can you name someone from an IP?

if it is someone who has issues with blonde he will already have been banned using probably the same IP. From that you can deduce who it is (maybe you could also block any other accounts being set up from the same IP)

I'm a donk at computers but if you turn your router off and on you get a different IP right? If you go round a mates house, an internet cafe, get a pay per minute dial up connection, all these change your IP right?

If you turn your router on and off it can still be traced, if he has gone to the trouble of going to a mates or internet cafe then obviously not. Although I dont think there are many internet cafes open at the time these were all sent.

not many people fall out with blonde- all the ones I can think of are a lot more local and in our timezone. Even if you don't have a static IP it can still be easily traced. I think Tikay will probably already know who is responible for this- can you ask whose face they photshopped onto my body though please?

Yes, and No..... an easy and very basic way to explain it is inside your house (from your router inwards) the IP will change of your PCs when they reconnect after rebooting your router. From the router outwards you will have the SAME IP address (just think of it like an address of your house) So, naturally if you go elsewhere your IP addy will be different. However, the MAC address can't be changed, it's burnt into the actual computer and you can block people specifically this way sometimes (not always efficient TBH, as people can use a different computer)

Blocking an IP can be tricky as a whole group of people may use the same one but have different subnet masks, you could find a whole UNI blocked for example....

I think to be honest its just one of those "internet" things and not really someone who has it in for blonde. Its quite common for these spambots to target certain types of forum (the scripts are easy downloaded) and go through the members list spamming them all.

The problem i had this morning with the Pm's ,was i opened one of them while both my girls were in the room (luckily they did not see anything)I would have been gutted if my youngest had seen that picture she is only 9!!!

Could they not have been removed by the mods?

Also we have alot of members,that only pop on and off the site every few months,what will they think when in a months time this thread has drifted to say page 3 or 4,they open up there pm and see that with no explanation as to why the pm was there.

I have just checked Pete's account and the lucky boy got 4 Pm's and he has only made one or two posts,so i am guessing they went out to all members.

can these Pm's be removed before someone sees the picture that really shouldn't?

The Mods have no access to PMs and can't do anything about them I'm afraid.

Such is the way of the internet Redimp. This is the first real hit blonde has had since its birth, and thats remarkable. This sort of thing is common. Unfortunately there is not much that can be done about it.... but there could and should be, IMO. Not hard to write a script that Ironside could run to do exactly what you want.

On a side note, my mums PC was hit by a porn spam trojan thing that would pop up thousands of porn windows and the "only way" to remove it was to pay for their spyware removal tool (the site installs the trojan and the spam then asks you to pay to remove, basically....)

I didn't get any spammy PMs at all....

Incidentally I did notice that the PMs that appeared in my Inbox weren't shown as being sent to me but to other members (OOPS wrong choice of words!).

I didn't note the names before I deleted them (if it matters) but this might indicate some kind of automated message.

I think it would be very sensible to send a PM to everyone who might have been affected as suggested before.

Well - just logged on from Dublin - and it woke us up after a long night of bad beats!! Playing at the Fitzwilliam club and it was the talk of our table so we had to see if it was true.

i didnt check out the link even with 100% secure PC i would be reluctant to click on any link sent in a spam message

they are spamming for a reason 1 is to advertise a site that will charge users for using it

the other is to spread viruses

if anyone clicked on a link i would advise doing a full virus scan after making sure there software is uptodate

Strictly speaking, yes, it was a blonde. The individual registered with blonde specifically for the purpose of this spamming exercise, which took place within minutes of registering.

It occurred in the early hours of the morning, & it took us an hour or two to deal with, (he Posted on every Board in blonde before we realized he's PM'd so many of us) but we then banned the Member permanently.

I have had, at a guess, nearly 100 PM's of the "REPORT TO ADMIN" type from Members, & I have sent a personal & individual apology to each & every one.

I have replied to this issue now Mad, see my previous Post.

I accept all the criticism we've had about this matter, no arguments. But I must thank the Mods, who acted swiftly to prevent further problems.

It looks like something has buggered up my PM's, i had 3 from foxyamy but it only said i had 2 new messages and snoppy's warning one was not shown as a new message at all.

if it was that thing that buggered your pm's, no wonder they are bit shaky !!!

my pm never showed Snoopy's as a new message

Mine didn't show up from Snoopy either, but I just asked James to send me a PM and it worked as normal (popping up in another window), maybe it's just a mass email glitch.  :dontask:

Whoever has administrative access to the forum database can easily remove the offending messages by running the following SQL statement:

DELETE
FROM `smf_instant_messages`
WHERE `ID_MEMBER_FROM`=nnn

where nnn is the member ID of the offender.

I don't understand Sharky. Remove Messages that have already been sent? Effectively, go into Members PM Boxes?

All of the forum content is stored in a mySQL database. PMs are stored in a table, within that database, called smf_instant_messages. Whoever installed the forum on your domain will have access to this database (probably via a tool called PHPmyAdmin) and can access (and delete) any of the content they wish.

Obviously this tool must be used with care and by somebody who understands SQL as it is very powerful. Especially when being used to DELETE records.

In this instance I think this is worth doing....

I am suggesting deleting all PMs sent by the offender whether opened or not. At the end of the day the forum database in under your full control and it is your decision whether you choose to remove such material or not! It may already be too late in this particular instance but I believe this is worth considering if such an incident reoccurs.

I agree, the mods, admin did everything they could and as quick as they could. Putting up warnings on the forum and sending PM's to everyone.

They cant monitor everything that goes on at this forum but do their best.
Its good to see Tikay realises that going into members PM's is a total no no.

ps Ive bollocked the missus for posting photos of me whilst relaxing on a sunday afternoon, dont think she meant to send it to everyone
