Title: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: Djinn on October 30, 2006, 12:43:05 PM Good morning. I have found that the bar in my hotel allows for marvellous connectivity, so I'm going to set up in here and walk the 10 minutes either way throughout the Final. Not really, but I am going to set the scene well in advance... Start of Day 2 scheduled for 2:30pm
The scene being: Down to just 17 players, nine of whom, according to the Provisional Payout, get paid as follows (will check this is correct when I cross the road to the Casino): Unconfirmed prize structure 1 £13,600 2 £6,800 3 £3,400 4 £2,700 5 £2,400 6 £1,700 7 £1,400 8 £1,000 9 £1,000 The 17 players, in seat order as they were yesterday, and in which positions I greatly hope they will continue to sit: Barry Wilson 13,400 Tony Adderley 19,400 Daniel Cole 28,900 Richard Prew 23,400 Fredirick O'Brien 45,600 Darren Knolls 40,800 Vu Nguyen 27,100 Ryan Fronda 26,600 Marshall McCombie 8,100 Scott Baker 78,500 Chris Egerton 88,800 Jeff Rogers 31,800 Harish Chandarana 21,200 Alex Martin 30,300 Colin Knapp 14,200 Hoss Parhizkar 107,700 Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: TightEnd on October 30, 2006, 12:47:06 PM my hotel bar is marvellous for connectivity too...go figure!
see you later, before no doubt having to brave the M25 on my way back at about 5pm! Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: snoopy1239 on October 30, 2006, 12:47:19 PM Good morning
Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: Djinn on October 30, 2006, 12:47:35 PM Oh, and there will be no Lite thread - this should be of a reader-friendly length, and trying to load two tabs in there is like waiting for a bus and watching the kettle boil and paint dry all at the same time.
Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: Pab on October 30, 2006, 12:48:38 PM Hi jen, snoopy and tighty
best of luck today mr end, im travelling back from dublin but hope to be reading about you making the final when i get home this evening, all the best pab Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: Djinn on October 30, 2006, 12:49:08 PM my hotel bar is marvellous for connectivity too...go figure! see you later, before no doubt having to brave the M25 on my way back at about 5pm! What are you doing awake? Surely a whole extra hour of pre-poker napping lies ahead of you! I order you to sleep on the sofa if they've kicked you out of your room (like they've done to me). Oh, and good luck. Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: snoopy1239 on October 30, 2006, 12:50:26 PM I find watching paint dry absolutely fascinating, especially if it's my favourite colour.
Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: Djinn on October 30, 2006, 12:52:07 PM Good morning Hello. Hope you got back OK. I get the impression you might still think it's very, very late yesterday. And if your enjoying watching paint dry is an attempt to get me to start a second thread, it's not going to happen. :) Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: snoopy1239 on October 30, 2006, 12:54:38 PM Good morning Hello. Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: TightEnd on October 30, 2006, 12:58:20 PM So its 5.15am and I've walked across the road to the Novotel. It's a nice hotel. I settle down in my room but rather unsurprisingly can't sleep...a night of passing has got the adrenalin up.
Time to check out the mini bar, just for a bottle of water etc. Every single bottle has a metal top that you need a bottle opener for. No sign of bottle opener. Hunt high and low. Ring reception "where is the bottle opener kept in the rooms please?" "on top of the mini bar" "I'm afraid there isn't one in my room" "there must be" "sorry, there isn't. Is there any chance I could have one?" "no one is available to bring one at the moment" "Oh thats ok, shall I pop down?" "the bar is closed" "yes I know, but do you have a bottle opener in reception?" pause, sound of fumbling around "no we don't seem to have one, but the day shift comes on at 6.30am for breakfast. You can come down then and get one...." ;tk; ;tk; ;tk; tap water never tasted so good... Elsewhere, Marshall McCombie, whom one might have expected would be first out, has doubled up with an auto-all-in on the small blind. He held 8h Ts, against the big blind's Ks 2c, spiking the Eight on the turn. Oh, and Barry Wilson was just knocked out in 16th, making a stand preflop with Aspades Qs, but Chris Egerton's 5h 5d made a six-high straight. Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: Djinn on October 30, 2006, 03:15:21 PM Another battle of the blinds was occurring next door, as Darren Knolls limped on Vu Nguyen's big blind, and then called the 5k raise which followed.
Flop: Qs 3c Ts Darren be out 6k, and after a brief think, Nguyen passed 8h 8d face up, and was shown the Qc in return. Tighty says this guy (who never looked like his chips got over the starting number yesterday) is quite a canny player, skilled in the art of the Resteal. Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: Djinn on October 30, 2006, 03:30:55 PM So, 15 players remaining, blinds 1,000/2,000 (only for another ten minutes, however).
Your chip leader remains the solid-looking Hoss Parhizkar (this is genuinely the spelling on the list - friends of his, if you're watching, please confirm) who appears in the photo below looking like his chips aren't going anywhere without a fight. He just pushed off smaller stacked Alex Martin on a flop of Td 5c 8h, after Alex raised to 6k preflop, and H.P. called on the button. A check from Alex led to a bet of 20k, which committed him if he was up for calling, which he wasn't. Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: Royal Flush on October 30, 2006, 03:34:39 PM So, 15 players remaining, blinds 1,000/2,000 (only for another ten minutes, however). Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: Djinn on October 30, 2006, 03:44:00 PM It's not been a good afternoon for Frederick O'Brien - first of all he doubles up Tighty with his Ahrt Qd against Richard's Aspades Jc (suits unknown, but only relevant because Tighty four-flushed the nuts). Then he raises with AJ and runs into Tony Adderley's Qd Qc. So that's 50k done in one level...
He's doing better than Alex Martin and Darren Knolls, though, since they're OUT. Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: Djinn on October 30, 2006, 03:53:34 PM Referring to that last post, I think Tighty might have been referring to (now eliminated) Daniel Cole, as Frederick O'Brien is still in, as these Chip Counts show:
Table TightEnd Tony Adderley 76,000 Jeff Rogers 49,000 Richard Prew 24,500 Frederick O'Brien 72,000 Vu Nguyen 60,000 (Well on track for Climber of the Day) Chris Egerton 92,000 Table Knocked Out Riverdave Marshall McCombie 19,500 Scott Baker 61,000 Harish Chandarana 52,000 Colin Knapp 36,000 Hoss Parhizkar 110,000 S. Gammage 58,000 Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: Djinn on October 30, 2006, 04:00:04 PM Colin Knapp falls in 12th place:
It passed to him on the button, and he made it 10k (blinds now 1,500/3,000), as you might with Ad Qc. Small blind Parhazkar re-raised about another 20k, and Colin quickly decided that it was to be all in. He found the small blind chip leader with Kd Kc, however. The board came Jc 8h 2h 7d 4c and a little clap went round the room as the player with the most impressive moustache still remaining was eliminated. Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: Djinn on October 30, 2006, 04:15:31 PM And we're hand for hand now, as Sarah Gammage exits in 11th...
A preflop raising war developed between her and Scott Baker, and I arrived tableside at the point where there was already about 40k in the pot and Scott was dwelling, most likely over whether to just call a further 10k or push in. He opted for the former. Flop: Tc 6c 8s The check he was probably waiting for came, and he was immediately all in. Call from Sarah, who showed Ahrt Kc. Scott showed: Qs Qh Turn and river: Js Jc and it's five and five. Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: Redbull on October 30, 2006, 04:17:56 PM Good luck Tighty. Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: Djinn on October 30, 2006, 04:17:58 PM And because I can't wait for Google Image search to get a new one, you get an old MC Hammer, who has hopefully come to symbolise for you, as for me and Snoopy......
Bubble time. Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: Djinn on October 30, 2006, 04:36:37 PM The bubble was Marshall McCombie, who'd been hanging on with between one and ten big blinds for two whole levels. Eventually he made a stand with Ac 8d, called pretty much automatically by both blinds. "Maximum value," he muttered (quite a talkative chap that one).
It was checked down until they were looking at 9d Th 8c 5h 4d, and as small blind Scott Baker showed Ks Tc for the pair of Tens, Marshall shouted, "Final!" and graciously took his leave. Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: Djinn on October 30, 2006, 04:44:03 PM An interesting aside from Tighty - at exactly the same time as ultra-short-stacked Marshall was making his last stand, Richard found Qd Qh under the gun. And passed.
We had a bit of a debate about this (I was thinking he still had between 30 and 40k and should have been all in like a shot) but it turns out he had just four big blinds and was nearly as desperate for a double through as the Other Guy... and he decided, in his own words, "It was a bit lily-livered, but £1,000 is £1,000." Like Mr. Nguyen, who finished in 9th place, winning £1,000 - He saw a Jack-rag-rag flop, two spades with Tony Adderley, and check-raised all in with the nut flush draw. Tony had bet with top pair and felt obliged to call - no hit and we're down to eight. While I'm online, I might as well remind you of the prize money for the rest of them: 1 £13,600 2 £6,800 3 £3,400 4 £2,700 5 £2,400 6 £1,700 7 £1,400 8 £1,000 -------------------------------------------------------------------- Fredirick O'Brien raises preflop to 16k (blinds now 2k/4k). Big blind Tony Adderley re-raises enough to put him all in - around 60k. A long think later, and Fredirick passes Ahrt Kc face up. "I didn't want to see a flop," says Tony, showing what looked to me like Nines... The perfect time for the very helpful cardroom people to tell me exactly what the chip counts are at currently: Tony Adderley 180,000 Richard Prew 30,000 Hoss Parhizkar 170,000 Chris Egerton 114,000 Fredirick O'Brien 60,000 Harish Chandarana 31,000 Jeff Rogers 32,000 Scott Baker 70,000 Richard says that he's been all in no fewer than seven times, without a call so far. I've seen two of them, and he tells me that far from making moves he's seen AA (twice), KK, Tens and AK with no action whatsoever, despite the fact that the blinds are about to become 3k/6k. He seems somewhat frustrated by this. But meanwhile, two other stacks have dwindled down to about level with him, and he's mentioned something called "laddering up," which is a new phrase to input into my mental poker dictionary. Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: ChipRich on October 30, 2006, 06:15:43 PM GL TIGHTY!!! :)up ;slavedriver;
Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: AndrewT on October 30, 2006, 06:20:06 PM he's mentioned something called "laddering up," which is a new phrase to input into my mental poker dictionary. That's a new euphenism for 'folding' that I've not heard before. :) Go Tighty. Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: Djinn on October 30, 2006, 06:28:21 PM Two of the short stacks just went to war on the blinds - Harish Chandarana moved in on the small blind with Ks Td, and Jeff Rogers (bb) woke up with Ad Jd. The board came 7d Qs 3h 2c 5d - in short, no hit and Harish was knocked down to just one of the smallest denomination chips still in play - 1k.
The next hand saw a min raise under the gun from Tony Adderley, which got a re-raise from Chris Egerton. Saying, "You've got a very tight image in my head," he passed, showing Aspades Tc (which was a pretty odd hand to be utg raising like that with anyway, if he wasn't going to capitalise on how it looked, and then show everyone anyway). Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: Djinn on October 30, 2006, 06:41:43 PM As you may have expected, Harish Chandarana was eliminated soon thereafter, in 8th place, winning £1,000
And what else...well, Tony Adderley limped in early position (he does seem to like this kind of thing) and encouraged Hoss Parhizkar and small blind Jeff to limp too. Big blind Scott Baker did the honorable thing and promptly moved in for 48k more. Pass, pass, pass, little clap and the compulsory, "Show the bluff!" Then Tighty got a walk in the big blind from Mr. Adderley. Which was unexpected. Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: Djinn on October 30, 2006, 06:48:34 PM Here's a picture of Tony Adderley, chip leader, although there's more of a rich-poor divide between those over 110k and those below 60k. Could be interesting, but a lot of passing currently being undertaken.
Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: Djinn on October 30, 2006, 07:04:42 PM Tony limped in under the gun (again) and next to act Richard moved in fast. Pass round faster, a free 15k for Tighty...
Some check-all-the-way-between the blinds hands, and that's about all I have to report for the last 20 minutes. Any questions? ---------------------------------------------------- (for once, the Disconnection helps me)------------------------------- Just when I was considering juggling with the salt shakers - Tighty's all in again. Jeff calls him with 8d 8s, but Richard's got the Kc Ks. They should know by now... Anyway, a King on the flop and a teasing Eight on the turn made the crowd lean forwards, so I couldn't see what was going on from my outpost by the power supply. But Jamie told me so that's OK. Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: Dewi_cool on October 30, 2006, 07:05:10 PM please pass on my best wishes to tighty, seems to be laddering nicely, if he ladders anymore he'll win it :D

Nice hand with KK tighty, take it down! Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: Djinn on October 30, 2006, 07:15:56 PM After doubling Richard up, Jeff went all-in fairly promptly, doubling back to something around 30k, and then getting it in with Ts Th preflop against Chris' Kc Qc, spiking a Ten, and then moving in preflop again the very next hand, this time having accumulated enough chips to force a quick pass from Hoss.
He's probably the player I would tag as the most dangerous on the final, more so, of course, with chips than without, and he's clearly determined to try to get them back sooner rather than later. "Laddering up" is what happens to your stockings when you clench your butt-cheeks really tightly and hope someone else goes bust before you. Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: Djinn on October 30, 2006, 07:51:42 PM Super short stack Fredirick O'Brien was the next to move in, and finished 7th, winning £1,400...
Literally seconds later and I saw, over the edge of my pie, Tighty standing up - racing through the crowd I saw that he'd been in the big blind with Ts 5s and Tony Adderley had made up the small blind. The flop came: 2s 3h 4d - Tony checked, and Richard, quite reasonably, pushed. He faced a totally bewildering dwell, seeing as Tony eventually called with his, er, Kd Kc... So we've got Richard Prew finishing in 6th place, winning £1,700 Congratulations... Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: Djinn on October 30, 2006, 08:12:53 PM So with just five players left, Jeff has, as I suspected he might if his quest for the playable stack was successful, taken a nice lead...
Counts: Tony Adderley 145,000 Hoss Parhizkar 140,000 Chris Egerton 130,000 Jeff Rogers 218,000 Scott Baker 65,000 Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: tikay on October 30, 2006, 08:27:43 PM Great effort Tighty. Deserved better. Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: Djinn on October 30, 2006, 08:33:47 PM The finalists are up and milling around, signifying a break (the clock counting down confused me momentarily until the relevance of all these new guys playing the £100 PLHE rebuy hit me).
So, to bridge the gap here are some photos of Dan and Irish Pete, who are exemplary dealers and representative of the friendly card room they've got running here (I hope you've signed up to blonde now)... Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: Djinn on October 30, 2006, 08:37:34 PM The blinds are now 6,000/12,000
I was kindly alerted just now to a very large hand indeed, a threeway all-in, no less. It looked like Tony Adderley had moved in under the gun, or at least gotten himself all in there with 3c 3d - button Chris Egerton was all-in too with Aspades Qc, while probably rather unexpectedly Scott Baker in the big blind had taken the plunge too. He had found Kc Kd at a rather handy time... Flop: Ad Ks 8c Turn: 9s River: Ahrt This knocked Tony Adderley down to less than the big blind, and he was all in next hand with Ahrt 6d, taken out by Hoss with his 9h 9s. So, the man Tikay described yesterday as his table mentor, Tony Adderley is our 5th place finisher, winning £2,400 Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: MrMoves on October 30, 2006, 08:42:42 PM Well done Mr T.

Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: Djinn on October 30, 2006, 09:11:35 PM Right, hand roundup (been lazily sitting behind the dealer over on the side of the room which is power-outlet free)...
Chris Egerton doubles through with pocket Nines against a non-hitting AK. Meanwhile the chips that seemed inescapably gravitating towards Jeff and Scott are heading back across the table - First Scott raised on the button a not-inconsiderable amount (c.40k), and then after a very long think passed when Hoss moved in for 73k more in the small blind. Then it was Hoss again who took a chunk off Jeff, going all-in on a Ts Jh 7h board with Qc Kh. Jeff held Th Jd... Turn: 9d River: Qh And now it was almost instantly Jeff's turn to have a go, raising Scott's big blind and finding a push which he was really obliged to call with his A8. It was actually not as bad as it could have been (he was up against 77) and he spiked the Eight on the river to recoup some of that earlier big loss. Phew. Back to the table. Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: Djinn on October 30, 2006, 09:19:50 PM Question: What is the sound of six hands clapping?
Answer: What you hear while fiddling with your internet which tells you you've just missed an elimination. Chris Egerton finishes 4th, winning £2,700 And hot on his heels, Jeff Rogers falls in 3rd, winning £3,400 to the seemingly unstoppable Hoss Parhizkar... Ac 8c his hand, against a timely pair of Queens for Hoss. New chip leader, and apparently an offer of £8,000 has been made for second (currently £6,800)... Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: Djinn on October 30, 2006, 09:32:27 PM ....No Deal, says Scott 'the jumper' Baker. Despite the two to one chip lead of his opponent, that doesn't sound like the greatest of deals (first place pays £13,600)
So we're a deal free zone here in Southampton, so far. Heads up is progressing without my being able to report too much, but I'd better go and lurk just in case. So we're a deal free zone here in Southampton, so far. Heads up is progressing without my being able to report too much, but I'd better go and lurk just in case. Yes, we have a winner.... The two players see an Ahrt Qh 4h flop - Hoss moves in with his flopped flush (5h 8h), and after some consideration, Scott calls with Qc 2h. A very swift wrap up placing Scott Baker in 2nd place, winning £6,800 while Southampton player Hoss Parhizkar is the Southern Masters Champion winning £13,600 Congratulations to them both. Get home safe. Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: Djinn on October 30, 2006, 09:45:43 PM It's so early! I hardly know what to do with myself...oh, I remember, drive back to London, go shopping at the 24hr Tesco, play online for four hours an pass out over my keyboard. It's a plan.
I don't know where the winners have gone, so I will leave you with a total non sequitur of an image - a vehicle proving that Tikay just can't do enough, the APAT, TV hosting, Being A Pro, and now, the countrywide Kendall van hire company. Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: TightEnd on October 30, 2006, 10:11:12 PM Well done to Jen for the updating with that horrendous connection
Thanks for the best wishes, pretty satisfied really in the circumstances. Now need to get a bit more "game" to be in contention for the top spot in one of these. Final table was funny, I start with 5x bb in the SB I am all in, no callers (I think I might have created an image!) with each of the following...AA,AK,KK,AA,A8,A7,10 10,AJ before I finally double through from virtually where I started with KK vs 88 then blind away to emergency status again when I have Ts 5s vs Kc Kd on a 2d 3s 4s board blind on blind with no raise pre flop and none of the outs came. So it was a night of "if only's" :D Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: RED-DOG on October 30, 2006, 10:13:28 PM a vehicle proving that Tikay just can't do enough, the APAT, TV hosting, Being A Pro, and now, the countrywide Kendall van hire company. Dan (Exemplary dealer lol) Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: Deekay on October 31, 2006, 02:42:46 PM Another battle of the blinds was occurring next door, as Darren Knolls limped on Vu Nguyen's big blind, and then called the 5k raise which followed. Thanks for the comment tighty! The surname is Knowles, not Knolls! Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: snoopy1239 on October 31, 2006, 02:47:07 PM A big thanks to Jen for these updates.
We weren't scheduled in for Southampton, so all this was voluntary. She was on her own and working with a terrible connection. I think she did a cracking job. AJ vs AQ. Enough said Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: Deekay on October 31, 2006, 03:10:42 PM It's not been a good afternoon for Frederick O'Brien - first of all he doubles up Tighty with his Ahrt Qd against Richard's Aspades Jc (suits unknown, but only relevant because Tighty four-flushed the nuts). Then he raises with AJ and runs into Tony Adderley's Qd Qc. So that's 50k done in one level... He's doing better than Alex Martin and Darren Knolls, though, since they're OUT. It was me who called the all in raise under the gun from tighty with AQ! It was also me who raised under the gun with AJ and ran into queens! Two hands and I've done all my chips! AArrrgh! Darren KNOWLES! Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: TightEnd on October 31, 2006, 03:45:53 PM to be fair, Jen's player list had misprints galore.
she'll get it right next time deekay! Title: Re: Southern Masters Live Update - Final Day Post by: Deekay on October 31, 2006, 04:13:42 PM All in all she's done a great job, nice coverage.
