Good morning.  I have found that the bar in my hotel allows for marvellous connectivity, so I'm going to set up in here and walk the 10 minutes either way throughout the Final.  Not really, but I am going to set the scene well in advance... Start of Day 2 scheduled for 2:30pm

The scene being:  Down to just 17 players, nine of whom, according to the Provisional Payout, get paid as follows (will check this is correct when I cross the road to the Casino):

I don't want a second thread, I was just commenting on the bad press that us paint watchers seem to get.

So its 5.15am and I've walked across the road to the Novotel. It's a nice hotel. I settle down in my room but rather unsurprisingly can't sleep...a night of passing has got the adrenalin up.

Time to check out the mini bar, just for a bottle of water etc. Every single bottle has a metal top that you need a bottle opener for.

No sign of bottle opener.

Ryan Fronda is the first player to be eliminated on this Day Two - AJ against Frederick O'Brian's AK.

Elsewhere, Marshall McCombie, whom one might have expected would be first out, has doubled up with an auto-all-in on the small blind.
He held 8h Ts, against the big blind's Ks 2c, spiking the Eight on the turn.

Oh, and Barry Wilson was just knocked out in 16th, making a stand preflop with Aspades Qs, but Chris Egerton's 5h 5d made a six-high straight.

Another battle of the blinds was occurring next door, as Darren Knolls limped on Vu Nguyen's big blind, and then called the 5k raise which followed.
Flop: Qs 3c Ts   Darren be out 6k, and after a brief think, Nguyen passed 8h 8d face up, and was shown the Qc in return.
Tighty says this guy (who never looked like his chips got over the starting number yesterday) is quite a canny player, skilled in the art of the Resteal.

So, 15 players remaining, blinds 1,000/2,000 (only for another ten minutes, however).

Your chip leader remains the solid-looking Hoss Parhizkar (this is genuinely the spelling on the list - friends of his, if you're watching, please confirm) who appears in the photo below looking like his chips aren't going anywhere without a fight.  He just pushed off smaller stacked Alex Martin on a flop of Td 5c 8h, after Alex raised to 6k preflop, and H.P. called on the button.  A check from Alex led to a bet of 20k, which committed him if he was up for calling, which he wasn't.

He is the chap who cracked river Dave's AA.

It's not been a good afternoon for Frederick O'Brien - first of all he doubles up Tighty with his Ahrt Qd against Richard's Aspades Jc (suits unknown, but only relevant because Tighty four-flushed the nuts).  Then he raises with AJ and runs into Tony Adderley's Qd Qc.  So that's 50k done in one level...

He's doing better than Alex Martin and Darren Knolls, though, since they're OUT.

Referring to that last post, I think Tighty might have been referring to (now eliminated) Daniel Cole, as Frederick O'Brien is still in, as these Chip Counts show:

Colin Knapp falls in 12th place:

It passed to him on the button, and he made it 10k (blinds now 1,500/3,000), as you might with Ad Qc.  Small blind Parhazkar re-raised about another 20k,
and Colin quickly decided that it was to be all in.  He found the small blind chip leader with Kd Kc, however.
The board came Jc 8h 2h 7d 4c and a little clap went round the room as the player with the most impressive moustache still remaining was eliminated.

And we're hand for hand now, as Sarah Gammage exits in 11th...

A preflop raising war developed between her and Scott Baker, and I arrived tableside at the point where there was already about 40k in the pot and Scott was dwelling, most likely over whether to just call a further 10k or push in.  He opted for the former.
Flop:  Tc 6c 8s   The check he was probably waiting for came, and he was immediately all in.  Call from Sarah, who showed Ahrt Kc.
Scott showed:  Qs Qh

Turn and river:  Js Jc and it's five and five.

Bubble time.

The bubble was Marshall McCombie, who'd been hanging on with between one and ten big blinds for two whole levels.  Eventually he made a stand with Ac 8d, called pretty much automatically by both blinds.  "Maximum value," he muttered (quite a talkative chap that one).
It was checked down until they were looking at 9d Th 8c 5h 4d, and as small blind Scott Baker showed Ks Tc for the pair of Tens, Marshall shouted, "Final!" and graciously took his leave.

An interesting aside from Tighty - at exactly the same time as ultra-short-stacked Marshall was making his last stand, Richard found Qd Qh under the gun.  And passed.
We had a bit of a debate about this (I was thinking he still had between 30 and 40k and should have been all in like a shot) but it turns out he had just four big blinds and was nearly as desperate for a double through as the Other Guy... and he decided, in his own words, "It was a bit lily-livered, but £1,000 is £1,000."

The perfect time for the very helpful cardroom people to tell me exactly what the chip counts are at currently:

Richard says that he's been all in no fewer than seven times, without a call so far.  I've seen two of them, and he tells me that far from making moves he's seen AA (twice), KK, Tens and AK with no action whatsoever, despite the fact that the blinds are about to become 3k/6k.  He seems somewhat frustrated by this.  But meanwhile, two other stacks have dwindled down to about level with him, and he's mentioned something called "laddering up," which is a new phrase to input into my mental poker dictionary.

That's a new euphenism for 'folding' that I've not heard before. :)

Two of the short stacks just went to war on the blinds - Harish Chandarana moved in on the small blind with Ks Td, and Jeff Rogers (bb) woke up with Ad Jd.  The board came 7d Qs 3h 2c 5d  - in short, no hit and Harish was knocked down to just one of the smallest denomination chips still in play - 1k.

The next hand saw a min raise under the gun from Tony Adderley, which got a re-raise from Chris Egerton.  Saying, "You've got a very tight image in my head," he passed, showing Aspades Tc (which was a pretty odd hand to be utg raising like that with anyway, if he wasn't going to capitalise on how it looked, and then show everyone anyway).

As you may have expected, Harish Chandarana was eliminated soon thereafter, in 8th place, winning £1,000

And what else...well, Tony Adderley limped in early position (he does seem to like this kind of thing) and encouraged Hoss Parhizkar and small blind Jeff to limp too.  Big blind Scott Baker did the honorable thing and promptly moved in for 48k more.  Pass, pass, pass, little clap and the compulsory, "Show the bluff!"

Then Tighty got a walk in the big blind from Mr. Adderley.  Which was unexpected.

Here's a picture of Tony Adderley, chip leader, although there's more of a rich-poor divide between those over 110k and those below 60k.  Could be interesting, but a lot of passing currently being undertaken.

Tony limped in under the gun (again) and next to act Richard moved in fast.  Pass round faster, a free 15k for Tighty...

Some check-all-the-way-between the blinds hands, and that's about all I have to report for the last 20 minutes.  Any questions?

Just when I was considering juggling with the salt shakers - Tighty's all in again.  Jeff calls him with 8d 8s, but Richard's got the Kc Ks.  They should know by now...
Anyway, a King on the flop and a teasing Eight on the turn made the crowd lean forwards, so I couldn't see what was going on from my outpost by the power supply.  But Jamie told me so that's OK.

After doubling Richard up, Jeff went all-in fairly promptly, doubling back to something around 30k, and then getting it in with Ts Th preflop against Chris' Kc Qc, spiking a Ten, and then moving in preflop again the very next hand, this time having accumulated enough chips to force a quick pass from Hoss.

He's probably the player I would tag as the most dangerous on the final, more so, of course, with chips than without, and he's clearly determined to try to get them  back sooner rather than later.

"Laddering up" is what happens to your stockings when you clench your butt-cheeks really tightly and hope someone else goes bust before you.

Super short stack Fredirick O'Brien was the next to move in, and finished 7th, winning £1,400...

Literally seconds later and I saw, over the edge of my pie, Tighty standing up - racing through the crowd I saw that he'd been in the big blind with Ts 5s and Tony Adderley had made up the small blind.  The flop came:  2s 3h 4d - Tony checked, and Richard, quite reasonably, pushed.  He faced a totally bewildering dwell, seeing as Tony eventually called with his, er, Kd Kc...

So we've got Richard Prew finishing in 6th place, winning £1,700

Right, hand roundup (been lazily sitting behind the dealer over on the side of the room which is power-outlet free)...

Chris Egerton doubles through with pocket Nines against a non-hitting AK.  Meanwhile the chips that seemed inescapably gravitating towards Jeff and Scott are heading  back across the table -
First Scott raised on the button a not-inconsiderable amount (c.40k), and then after a very long think passed when Hoss moved in for 73k more in the small blind.

Then it was Hoss again who took a chunk off Jeff, going all-in on a Ts Jh 7h board with Qc Kh.  Jeff held Th Jd...

And now it was almost instantly Jeff's turn to have a go, raising Scott's big blind and finding a push which he was really obliged to call with his A8.  It was actually not as bad as it could have been (he was up against 77) and he spiked the Eight on the river to recoup some of that earlier big loss.

Yes, we have a winner.... The two players see an Ahrt Qh 4h flop - Hoss moves in with his flopped flush (5h 8h), and after some consideration, Scott calls with Qc 2h.  A very swift wrap up placing Scott Baker in 2nd place, winning £6,800 while

Southampton player Hoss Parhizkar is the Southern Masters Champion winning £13,600

Final table was funny, I start with 5x bb in the SB

I am all in, no callers (I think I might have created an image!) with each of the following...AA,AK,KK,AA,A8,A7,10 10,AJ before I finally double through from virtually where I started with  KK vs 88 then blind away to emergency status again when I have

 Ts 5s vs  Kc Kd on a  2d 3s 4s board blind on blind with no raise pre flop and none of the outs came.

So it was a night of  "if only's"  :D
