Title: The Big Debate
Post by: snoopy1239 on October 31, 2006, 04:01:48 PM
Are you a cat person or a dog person?

I'm always interested in which is most popular and the reasons why.

Dana's got a cat she's very fond of, but I've always been a dog fan.

My border collie died about 3 years ago.

She was 18 (I think), so I'd had her for most of my life. A childhood firend of sorts.

I'm still yet to recover from the loss.

Cat vs a Puppy. Puppy kicks butt when the cat manages to make it angry :)

I like both dogs and cats but I only own cats at the moment.

Clearly cats own dogs, You don't have to take them for walks!

Cats are the spawn of satan. Far too selfish. Always off hunting for food in someone elses house. Stop out all night, sometimes going on weekend benders without returning home so you know they are safe. Only come to you when they want something. And they have evil green eyes.

We've had both, at the same time as well & they got on fine. I can't decide between them.

Dogs love you whatever, when a cat loves you you know it's made that choice.

BTW My pet rat Norman (RIP)  is still probably my favorite - he was a lovely wee guy!

Dogs for me.

There are so many reasons that I can't bring myself to explain them, but basically, dogs are pack animals, and this influences their behavior and their attitude in a way which makes them far more rewarding (for me)

A dog will do anything to please you, and will worship you like a god if it believes you to be it's pack leader, "The Alpha Male" (No, it doesn't matter if you are a girl) This is a two-way street, you can give untold pleasure to a creature that sees you as a god, just a gesture or a kind word can send it into transports of delight

A cat is a solitary animal, and will always please itself. It may also please you while it is pleasing itself, but that's just a coincidence.

I've had both.  We got our cats 4 years ago after our dog died and I've had dogs when I lived at home.

I prefer Cats but I think it depends on the animal.  Some Dogs are nicer than others and the same applies to Cats.

I'd like a dog but I don't want o pick up it's poo or walk it when I can't be bothered.  They seem great fun and I like the friendlyness and compassion they give.  Cats are ideal, they look after themselves pretty much.

I'm not likely to get either again (had a few cats) I don't like the smells of either animals, you can tell when you walk into a cat or dog owners house, it smells of them.  They also both leave lots of hair about and I have a small allergy problem that is affected by them.  I don't dislike either though, if they're owned by other people that's great :)

I pretty much agree with you Silo. I loved my dog to bits. Loved the cats too. But I am alergic to cats (hence the main reason why I "hate" them) but losing one is hard. You know its going to happen, and they are "only" animals. But they spend 16 years of your life with you if they live to their full livespan and you do depend on them for lots of things.

Gerbils are cool. I had two but when Cokey was a kitten he climbed on their cage, kncoked it off the shelf the cage was on, which broke the cage, I found Pepper under the duvet but Roo was never to be seen again.

Cokey also did lots of naughty things when he was a baby and is still a little brat now but I do love him!

Chalky and Lucky are my other cats, Lucky is like a moany old woman, and Chalky is very loving and thinks he is king of the pride. Chalky smells though!

I've had dogs in the past and I really love them, I like most animals. I get way too attached though! My dads dog Boston is my new pal at the moment, he has fallen for me big style and won't leave me alone!

Bit of a no brainer this one. Off the top of my head here's a few points illustrating feline supremacy.

CAT - walks itself.
DOG - requires walking.

CAT - doesn't require you to lavish attention on it. Capable of living life without constant reassurance he/she is loved
DOG - will snivel and whine like a loser if ignored for too long.

CAT - copulating with owner's leg is almost unheard of.
DOG - will often be sexually attracted to human legs and act on this bizarre desire.

CAT - won't go into paroxyms of rage just because someone has shoved a leaflet through the letterbox.
DOG - treats anything being posted through the letterbox/ doorbell ring as the dog version of 9/11.

CAT - will entertain owner by chasing anything that remotely resembles a rat's tail yet nearly always avoids chasing own tail.
DOG - will happily chase own tail for ages believing it to belong to a rival mutt who is standing very close . coughmoroncaninecough

CAT - pays rent ( in the form of small mice and dead birds)
DOG - can never pay back the amount of time it takes to look after.

CAT - gives love out sparingly, which gives it so much more meaning.
DOG - will fall in love with mass murdering genocidal dictator as long as he says "sit" and "down" and "walkies" enough times.

CAT - more dignity than to respond to barked commands such as "sit." Some view this as evidence of a cat's lesser intelligence but it's a different thing. It's called "self-respect."

DOG - generally regarded as more intelligent than cats. This is a common fallacy, easily tested. SImply pick up a stick, shout "Fetch" and make huge throwing motion with arm without letting go of stick, before hiding stick behind back. Dog will run off and hunt "stick" for hours. Perform same test with a cat. Cat will view you with the contempt you deserve and move off somewhere more interesting for a nap.

CAT - generally smells quite decent, won't leave greasy, malodorous print on hand after stroking. Regards personal grooming and cleanliness very highly.
DOG - even after heavy bathing, still has unassailable, grimy smell trailing it, and layer of grease round every hair. Won't think twice about walking around with big gelatinous globules of saliva hanging from its mouth.

DOG - occasionally attacks humans, sometimes fatally.
CAT - often attacks humans but knows when to draw the line and it is almost never fatal( with domestic cats at any rate.) Big cats will kill humans occasionally, but only when they invade their home and start messing about.  A jungle cat has a rep to keep up u know.

Borrowed without asking, but there ya go...lol  Here's a list of rules for pets:

PET RULES
To be posted VERY LOW on the refrigerator door - nose height.

Dear Dogs and Cats,

The dishes with the paw print are yours and contain your food. The other dishes are mine and contain my food. Please note, placing a paw print in the middle of my plate and food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.

The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack. Beating me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn't help because I fall faster than you can run.

I cannot buy anything bigger than a king sized bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think I will continue sleeping on the couch to ensure your comfort. Dogs and cats can actually curl up in a ball when they sleep. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other stretched out to the fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space is nothing but sarcasm.

For the last time, there is not a secret exit from the bathroom. If by some miracle I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, meow, try to turn the knob or get your paw under the edge and try to pull the door open. I must exit through the same door I entered. Also, I have been using the bathroom for years -- canine or feline attendance is not required.

The proper order is kiss me, then go smell the other dog or cat's butt. I cannot stress this enough!

To pacify you, my dear pets, I have posted the following message on our front door:

To All Non-Pet Owners Who Visit & Like to Complain About Our Pets:

1. They live here. You don't.
2. If you don't want their hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture. (That's why they call it "fur"niture.)
3. I like my pets a lot better than I like most people.
4. To you, it's an animal. To me, he/she is an adopted son/daughter who is short, hairy, walks on all fours and doesn't speak clearly.

Remember: In many ways, dogs and cats are better than kids because they:
1. Eat less
2. Don't ask for money all the time
3 Are easier to train
4. Normally come when called
5. Never ask to drive the car
6. Don't hang out with drug-using friends
7. Don't smoke or drink
8. Don't have to buy the latest fashions
9. Don't want to wear your clothes
10. Don't need a "gazillion" dollars for college.

And finally,

11. If they get pregnant, you can sell their children.
