Can't see there being anything in that - for a start the chairman wouldnt pay wages as high as Sven's.

I honestly don't think that having no one who can put the ball in the back of the net is the current managers fault. Not even Chelsea could cope with the striker situation we have at the moment.

Sven has reportedly dropped his demands by half.

As I've said for about 3 years you guys need to sort out your defence first! Everton made the Champions League spots by having a sound defence and winning games 1-0 all season a couple of years back. You guys are obsessed with scoring goals!

We made the Champions league three times with our defence as it is. If you look at the stats over our time in the league the number of goals we have conceded so far this season is one of the better ones, however it is the least number of goals we have scored - thats IS whats costing us at the moment!

I disagree mate - I think your defence was better whenever you've made the CL.

I agree that scoring has been your problem this season but it is not the long term problem.

I think their problem is that they don't have a long term strategy.

Newcastle has been in a position for ages now that they could have done what Spurs decided to do. Get home grown talent and a good bunch of youngsters and work with that.
They decided to buy over rated mediocre players and get souness (cough* is there a worse manager in the world?* cough) in and that's the end of that.

I don't support any English clubs (or scottish for that matter) but Newcastle just tick me off, what a poorly run club that is.. "one of the biggest in England" yes because the supporters keep turning up..no thanks to the managers and owners (although I did like Robson..but then everybody does). It must be the worst bunch of Chairmans and people on the board since Leeds (and now Hearts)..a pisspoor excuse for a top club..and has been for years.

No offense to any newcastle supporters but it drives me nuts that it doesn't seem to drive them nuts that a club which should be a top club in England is not being run properly.

Though I think you'll find we did exactly what Tottenham did. 3 or 4 years ago Robson's policy was young british talent - Jenas, Milner, Bramble etc were all in that category. I think the lack of success slightly changed the thinking (rightly or wrongly).

I honestly believe that with two proper full backs and one central defender to play in the middle with Ramage, and the current squad fully fit, we would be up there.

Our first 11 would have an average age of under 25. Shay given being the main cause of it not being 24...and I think i'd let him off for that!

Conceding less goals has got to be the be all and end all in judging a defence. (though granted this season is far from over and it could get a lot worse!)

I never thought I'd see the following words in the same sentence, 'Jenas', 'Bramble' and 'talent'.  :D

they were huge potential talents.... for whatever reason it didn't/hasn't materialised for NUFC

I reckon it's mainly due to the wrong managers being in charge..If Jenas had been under Ferguson or wenger he would have been a better player by now in my humble opinion.

Bramble is shocking.  I remember a few seasons ago he came on as a sub at Anfield and got a standing ovation from the Kop.  Biggest cheer of the night, couldn't have done anything for his confidence - but he is truly shocking.  He was touted as one of England's finest new stars at one time. 

Going well so far tonight though.

i was settling for not being humiliated before the game, but those on the pitch (particularly Milner) have really stood up.

I know... that commentary pairing are dire too... I'm sick of hearing about how the group stage works!

Great performance. If we can bring that attitude, last saturdays flow and add in the ability to hit the back of the net i'll be happy!

(Still don't think luque deserves too much praise for his contribution thou... and i'm one of his bigger fans!)
