Title: WSOP 2007
Post by: The Rivercard on November 01, 2006, 10:50:36 AM
2007 WSOP to Start June 1
Main Event Final Table Starts July 17
Serious poker players and those with bracelet aspiration should open their calendars and cancel all appointments for June and July because that’s when the next installment of the World Series of Poker is set to take place.

The 38th WSOP will start June 1, 2007, and the final table of the $10,000 main event will take place Tuesday, July 17, which is nearly a month earlier than the date of this year’s final table.

Harrah’s announced the starting date today, and said it will release a more complete schedule by the end of the year. With the announcement, Harrah’s reminded the world just how big the 2006 WSOP was.

All the tournaments generated a prize pool in excess of $171 million, and more than 48,000 players registered for events last summer.

Before last year, the WSOP traditionally took place during May, but that was before the WSOP expanded to more than 40 events.

Here’s what WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack said about the 2007 version of the WSOP: “The 2006 World Series of Poker was the best yet, but 2007 will be even better. As a first step, we've moved the start date up and now we’re developing an expanded and well-rounded schedule of events for 2007 that will appeal to both professionals and amateurs.”

I THINK THIS WILL BE THE LAST BIG ONE, WATCH OUT OVER THE NEXT MONTH FOR HOW THE US BASED ON LINE SITES ARE GOING TO QUALIFY THERE PLAYERS.

It definately won't be the last big one.

Pokerstars has always sent the most to the WSOP and they are still open to US customers, along with all the rest of the world.
Imo 5000+ in 2007.
Maybe more live casino satellites that kind of thing.

harrahs aren't accepting buy ins from online poker sites. interested to know how the sites will work around it.

When Rivercard says he thinks this will be the last big one i think he's referring to the main event at the WSOP in 2007. With there being so much uncertainty about whether it will be possible for Americans to play online after 2007 as the 270 grace period in the recently signed bill will end during 2007 and it may well be that the sites like Stars and FT who are still allowing players from the USA to play on their sites may have to change their minds.

Therefore the 2008 main event may not have anywhere near as many online qualifiers.

I more than understood that rivercard was talking about the ME size.

I didnt know harrahs were not going to accept online sites registrations though - that seems dumb - surely is still legal from any perspective for non-us citizens to qualify online :)

The ME size????  this is not about me its about the ability to attend the WSOP !!!

The WSOP will be smaller in 2008 unless the US changes its mind. Over 75% of entrants are on line qualifiers without them the whole tourney will be effected. I have been going to the WSOP since 1993 and have seen the growth and success, However it is now commercialism that drives such huge numbers and this is fuelled by the internet. Without Party (who were 10%)...stars (who are 25%) then the numbers will reduce back dramatically.

"but 2007 will be even better"

The man is delusional.  At least 1/2 last year's entries came from online sites and at least 1/2 of the remainder came froms pros who considered that there was easy money from the online qualifiers.  Not to mention players who won enough online to pay into the event.  Unless Harrahs changes its policy and accepts 3rd party buyins the ME will have about 1000 entries next year.  All other events will suffer reduced fields.

to be honest..1000 entries would probably be a good thing for the event itsself.

Harrahs have said they're not taking third party registrations. Therefore if you want to take part, you'll have to buy yourself in instead of having the poker room do it. Not difficult, but it is an extra hoop to jump through.

poker stars send you a cheque for 10k made out to harrahs, or just give you 10k in your acct. Not too difficult, as you said extra hoop.
I think we'll see a european winner this year.

cheque poss against US law, if not how long will they want to clear it before they let you play? 10K (more likely $12K+ inc expenses) in account many people will spend it on other stuff. i probably would myself and I would love to play in another WSOP main event.

cheque will clear just run sats months before. Also poker stars could arrange to meet you out there and buy you in? Won't be difficult, besides most pro's are bought in by 3rd partys these days, you think Raymer paid for his seat this year?
