Title: Breeders Cup... what we betting on?
Post by: totalise on November 03, 2006, 07:11:39 AM
I am lumping on Bernadini in the Classic, I have seen some of its last races and it has been absolutely phenomenal... winning at a canter almost every time.

I also like Wait a While in the Fillys and Mares Turf, simply because it shares market leadership (roughly) with Ouija Board, and I cant see it pulling out enough black magic to win this time round, given the rain thats been slamming down in Louisville lately.

The other races will be a highly mathematical system of backing whichever one the commentator likes the look of before the race.

What are your "tips" for the meeting?

yes as I said earlier in the week George washington can not beat bernadini on dirt...11-10 is a very decent price for him.

Here are the things I am thinking of...and some bets.

The Juvenile Fillies;

I reckon Dreaming of Anna can not be fancied. all her good form is on turf and this will be completely different. Admittedly Cash included is a worhty favourite but my money will probably go on Sutra who i really fancy at 14's (tote). A bit of an EW saver on Adhrhythm  at 14's, even though she has a poor draw she did win lesser races very nicely.

Juvenile

circular Quay had scvat daddy 4 lenghts behind 2 races bacvk but I think Scta daddy has improved a lot and the best jockey is on him (velasquez)..so, in a race where I think I won't have a bet, I would go with scat daddy (5-1 bet direct) if I had to stick my fiver on anything...but a very tricky race.

fillies and mares...

Wait a while (3-1 with paddy power) should not be denied...awesome winning the last races by 4 lenghts +. Ouija board is a fantastic horse but not in the same form as she was 2 years ago.

Sprint..

a Very poor race...yes loads of group1 winners but all of them in small fields and hefty odds on. aTypical example of how poor american racing is. (too fragmented and good horses only meet eachoethr once a year)...no bet

The Mile,

Sleeping indian at 14-1 (VC bet) is a must bet for me. I think this horse is vastly underrated. The Americans should get slaughtered in this race as I expect a european 1-2-3 with Arafaa, sleeping indian and Ad valorem. (maybe even librettist 4th)

The Distaff, as per usual one of the weakest races on the card...the same problem as the sprint..poor american racing gives no real indication of the form. Fleeting indian is the favourite after beating Balletto 2x but Baletto gets closer every time and I'd much rather have him at 7-1 (EW)

The BC Turf,

NOW WE'RE TALKING! Hurricane run (still a godo horse but not in the same form as last year) English channel (highly rated american horse..but simply not as tried and tested as the Europeans) and SCORPION (who hacked up in a poor St Leger last year but has only had one run this season) all in one race...An easy win for Scorpion for me and the only winner for AP on the card. 8-1 with betfred? yes please!

The big one.

Bernadini is the one to beat..and I don't think it will be beaten. George washington probably won't handle the surface (very fast at the moment and also on dirt) there is a European performer in here thatcould scare the Yanks though...DAVID JUNIOR..11-1 with bet365 to sink bernadini and I reckon as an EW saver it's worth it.

I'm no horsey person but I like a flutter.  Here's my mug punts

Race 1. Cash Included
Race 2. Circular Quay
Race 3. Ouija Board
Race 4. Siren Lure
Race 5. Aragorn
Race 6. Balletto
Race 7. Scorpion
Race 8. Bernardini

Only £2 on each to win, but it's a bit of fun eh :D

Good luck everyone

Jeez, $2m minimum per race for the winners!  This is some meeting, is it the richest in racing?  I guess Dubai comes close - Hong Kong?  Massive amounts anyway.

for me it's even worse.

My GF picked Invasor to win the bloody thing...I should have known every single bet she's placed on the horses has come in in the past 4 months (she bets like once every two weeks only big races.)
I am never betting against her again....unless it's on the footie.

My mom's the same with the various 'Nationals', her record is phenomenal. I haven't backed a donkey in AGES. Limit myself to a tiny interest bet on the National and sometimes the Derby but this talk of the Breeders Cup brought back happy memories.

Highlights for me were 'Royal Academy' and 'Arazi' (one of the most surreal performances I've seen...and more 'tv movie-sh' than any scene from Sea Biscuit and the like).
