Title: So how long as Roeder got?
Post by: TightEnd on November 06, 2006, 03:49:10 PM
second bottom, injury ridden team, chairman that really wanted O'Neill or Allardyce in the summer, fans revolting, talismanic Shearer in the wings.

Glenn Roeder (nice guy) failed at West Ham, shows no sign of succeeeding at Newcastle.

Not sure whether injuries and lack of board support account for Newcastle's plight more than Roeder's failings.....

I give it a fortnight anyway..

yeah...anything for the board to not have to admit it's their failure...then again Roeder never should have been given the job..another board failing. Can't help but feel for the guy though..he's in way over his head (should have known that himself when he took the job though)

Once you get into a situation like this there is only ever one outcome. (Saying that Pardew has done well, we will wait till the takeover tho first)

The board up there are so usless its untrue. The amount of cash they have given their managers has been plenty but their actual choice of managers has been nothing short of woeful.

I nearly started a 'Newcastle United a sad sad story' thread on Saturday, but turned to drink instead!

There really is nothing like being a Newcastle supporter.

Everyone knows that NUFC is rotten to the core. The news of the world proved that several times over with various scandals. The truth is that the patience has run out and all that is left is pure frustration. Being 23 means that I don't have that clear a memory of the really bad times - I was only 11 when Keegan came and was spoilt by getting to watch that season in Division 1 and the seemless transformation to a top premiership team.

We really missed out when Keegan left - If we had got Robson in at that point I think we would have kicked on and won the league. Instead we got a man who sold off all of our previous few years of building (selling Ferdinand was the worst decision) and did not get the concept of football in Newcastle. After that we get dragged into a period defined by one very wet night and a 2-1 defeat to Sunderland under Guilet - a season papered over by somehow making the cup final and being throughly outclassed for the second season running.

More News of the World scandal and my increasing age left me no longer idolising the players in the shirt like I used to - it just isn't the same anymore and its hard to remember the last time I really enjoyed a game like I used to.

The decision to appoint Roeder was without doubt the cheapest one for the chairman - getting rid of Souness and his team was an expense we couldnt afford, and, the run at the end of last season left him up there on merit.

This season has been typically Newcastle. Fulham and Bolton games should have been won, we actually played good football. The same with the Charlton game, which highlighted the underlying problem - we have no goalscorers and without goals you can't pick up many points.

I dont think there is a premiership team that could cope without Shearer, Owen, Martins and Ameobi (Istill count Shearer because we havent replaced him yet) Everyone knows our defence has never been up to much (apart from the games that Woodgate played) but it is the lack of goals that is doing us this year, and I don't see that issue changing in the near future.

I think the fans (a majority) recognise that a change in manager is not going to help our form at the moment, it would just create even more turmoil. The anger towards Shepard comes from a sustained period of shafting. The takeover talk all seems to have gone quiet, I'm hopeful that door isnt closed.

So...

I dont think Roeder should go....yet

This saturday Newcastle are away to Man City. In my view the winner keeps their job.

There isnt a hope we'll score... a draw seems likely (I hope!). We can only hope to limp to January... stay in the cup comps and snatch a striker in Jan. The name Kevin Davies fills me with absolute fear.

I've never rated Roder, but to be fair to him he was left with no money and a poor team.

I'd give him more time but in the long run Newcastle need a proper manager. Look at how well O'Neill has done at Villa.

yeah it was sounness that messed it up..of course sacking Sir Bobby to bring in F'ing Souness doesn't speak well for the board either.

souness only ever did one thing good, at rangers, other than that (almost 20 years ago) he has not just been not winning, he actually has a detremental effect on every thing he gets involved in, galatasary southampton blackburn newcastle all disasters

When I saw that Graham Poll was the ref I groaned and there you go a blatant penalty not given and a goal disallowed that should have stood as both players were holding each other. Well done Mr Poll. I am remaining polite as I don't want to get a  :redcard:

He is still hanging in. As I said earlier in the thread we were playing some decent stuff earlier in the season (not the Sheff United game!) but werent taking chances. Hopefully that corner is now turned!

I have to be honest... I have had a little chuckle at the recent form of West Ham compared to ours of late- particularly after the stick Roeder took down there this season. Its now the West Ham board that are making the rash decisions. A club the size of West Ham should have been pleased with Pardew's results in getting back into the PL and coming so close to the FA cup.

Couldn't agree more...sacking Pardew is not smart IMO but their form has been piss poor.

Aye hes done really well imo at Newcastle recently. The forwards (that are not injured) are starting to perform for him.

If he buys Crouch it may help him out. Although I doubt Benitez will sell before the summer.

14 first team players out.... I can't remember a worse injury crisis. I think there needs to be a hard look at the physio and medical treatment centres at the Toon, something obviously isn't being done properly.

The majority seem to have been taken in matches and I think the split between muscle strains and impact injuries is about even. Not sure whether we're missing a trick somewhere or the curse is now moving in further! Its actually 15, sky sports failed to include Siberski who also looks to be out for a while!

I gave us no hope last night, especially with the team that was playing, but they did well not to get thumped and hopefully we wnt lose any momentum. We do need at least 3 or 4 of those out to back in the next week though! Looking at the two sets of subs last night was scary, we couldnt even name a sub defender, though even they would struggle with 14/15 out!

I think I will take my boots on saturday it is nearly that bad - being Mr Versatile I could provide the cover in front of the back four (my pace won't allow me to play centre back, nor would I want to) or being 6'4'' I could play up top with Oba...

So...

I dont think Roeder should go....yet

Today was the first game I have had serious worries about where we'll end up this year and where Roeder will be able to take us. Selections today were awful, and so was the performance, thats the fourth or fifth time this year we've been beaten in a game like this at home. I'm near to coming off the fence and into the garden with what must be 75/80% of Newcastle fans (and 100% of West Ham fans!!!) with their views on the current management.

2 centre backs (Distin & Woodgate), 1 left back (Bale), 1 striker with a decent frame (Ashdon), a creative midfielder (or just play the turkish one we already have) Stephen Carr to never wear a black and white shirt again; needed in the summer.

bale aint going nowhere after the saint come up in the player offs he will be better off at southampton than a top4 team and none of the rest will be able to afford him

I don't think they will get up, though play like they did today and they'll run it close! I don't think we have a chance of any of the names I mentioned, just dreaming, which in itself is worrying - once upon a time they would have been world class names we were dreaming about! On the Bale subject, I think it all depends on the lad. If he wants to play top flight football there is no point in going to any of the top four because he won't get a game. Then of course there is the money issue for those outside the top four, baring probably Tottenham, Villa and us.

i managed to get a few quid on the saints last week at 8.8 or 8.6 for promotion

i think we will make the play offs and after a recent blip i think we will be hitting form at right time to win the play offs

no chance, you were punching above your weight for the first half of the season, and now with the lack of investment in the club I think you will find it a big struggle to find a way back to the premeirship ;)

No no no no no no!! It wasn't harry that got you relagated but Nigel Quashie. We were lucky to survive the 1st season with him in the team, but we weren't sure how to get the muppet to St Mary's.Then Milan came up with a plan and sent Redknapp up the road with the sole purpose of taking Quashie with him.

Hey, it was a bloody genius idea don't you think?
